http://www.brazilcarnival.com.br/culture/de-baiana-de-carnaval-of-brazil Baianas from Brazil are one of the oldest expressions of the carnival from Brazil. They are present (in most parades) as a mandatory wing, and have several "functions" and representations, as example to "cleanse" the spirits, revive the typical Baianas from Bahia State, provide protection to revelers of other wings, represent religious eucumenism and syncretism, provide legitimacy to mention a few aspects. They have their "swirl dance" also as a charactersitic and distinguishing posture at the parade. Here we see Baianas from Santa Cruz Samba School getting ready for the 2012 parade. Great cultural heritage.
