“For the Love of Music”

Hello I’m Denis, Denis Ahmet. I was born, raised, live and work in the East end of London. I have loved music for as long as I can remember. At a very young age I was always tapping out rhythms with my hands. At the age of twenty one I formed my first band with my cousin, Matt and Geoff the drummer. We performed mainly local club ...s and pub circuits winning many talent competitions along the way and having enormous fun wherever we performed.

In the late eighties I met Pro Sax player ‘Godfrey Madura’ (Ex Steel Pulse) who said that I had natural rhythm and playing ability. Godfrey was a great teacher and a great person, who taught me a lot about Jazz including ‘Giant Steps’ by John Coltrane. We played original Jazz funk compositions for many years until Godfrey unfortunately passed away in 2008. I remained loyal with Godfrey, we went through many musicians, except for the last set-up we had, which included David Charles ex drummer for Terrence Trent Derby, Little Dread a local Bass player and Moses another local musician who played Percussion. Shortly before I met Godfrey I met my lovely wife Joy. We have raised two beautiful Daughters Danielle and Chloe. Bringing up a family took priority; I played occasionally with Godfrey until life got easier.

In 2006 I began to write my own compositions and have not stopped since. I developed my song writing skills listening and performing Jazz, Classic Rock, Blues, Mozart and joining a musician website called BandAMP.com. I now class myself as a Multi-Instrumentalist songwriter with the Guitar as my main instrument. After many months of practise I’m now accomplished with the Soprano Saxophone, Flute and Bass. I can also play Keyboards and sing. From 2006 through to 2009 I wrote in excess of one hundred compositions of mixed genre. I was encouraged by many fellow musicians to produce a Jazz album.

On the 20th August 2009, I launched my first album ‘Laughter of Joy’, which I wrote, performed and produced from my home studio. There’s no better buzz or sense of achievement for me than when I produce an original piece of music and listen to the final production. I have learned so much recently, long may it continue,
