Trip to Peru - Inca Ruins of Pisac 01:56

Trip to Peru - Inca Ruins of Pisac

    by FerturPeruTravel (7/5/09) 170 views

http://www.fertur-travel.com/cusco_to...Pisac is famous for its arts, craft and food market that takes over the town, and for the ruins of a fortress that stands on a high ridge nearby. It marks the starting point of the Sacred Valley of the Incas.Driving in from Cusco, you can see the white awnings that spread all over town for Market Day, every Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday.Avenues and paths are draped in tapestries, pottery and artwork. As you get to the main square theyre replaced by a cornucopia of potatoes, corn, fruit and vegetables, all sold by women in traditional dress, along with stalls selling kitchen implements, and a rainbow selection of dyes and pigments.A short drive takes you to the top of the ridge, and the ruins of Inca Pisac, broken into four sections, each linked by a narrow path that hugs the ridge. The fortress and the Intihuatana or Temple of the Sun offer spectacular views of an amphitheatre-shaped valley filled with agricultural terraces. They continue high up on mountain ridges surrounding the site. The Incas dug up rich soil from the valley floor to grow huge crops of corn and quinoa at high altitudes. The ruined fortress looks across to a hillside pocked with funeral niches. The more intricate and elaborate curved stonework at the Temple of the Sun reveals the trapezoidal archways and smooth, gapless walls that are hallmarks of Inca architecture.Fertur Peru Travel.A full service travel agency and tour operator dedicated to making your journey to Peru a dream come true.Visit us at:http://www.fertur-travel.com/cusco_to...trip to peruflights to peruperu flightsflight to peruTourism Peruperu airlinesPeru tours to Iquitoshotels peruperu tourhuaraz perucaraz peruinca trail perutrip perutourism perualpamayohiking perutravel agency peruclimbing perutour operator peruperu tourismtrekking Peruperu flightsperu bike tourstour companies

Tour to the Sacred Valley of the Incas in Cusco 02:10

Tour to the Sacred Valley of the Incas in Cusco

    by FerturPeruTravel (7/5/09) 386 views

http://www.fertur-travel.com/cusco_tours.html Sacred Valley Tour The Sacred Valley follows the Urubamba river from the market town of Pisac, through the agricultural terraces that were once the engine room of the Inca empire and finishes at Ollantaytambo, an almost untouched Inca town, with an imposing temple looming over the valley. The day starts with a walk through the Pisac markets. The town is swathed in white tarpaulins three days a week, under them stall holders compete to sell traditional artworks and textiles, huge wood fired ovens bake empanadas and guinea pigs, and the central plaza is filled with women selling fresh produce, with dozens of potato and corn varieties on show. On the ridge above, the ruined fortress of Inca Pisac protects the southern end of the Sacred Valley while the Temple of the Sun shows the precision stonework Inca architects reserved for their most important religious buildings. The road through the valley passes through the small towns of Coya, Lamay and Calca, and the larger center of Urubamba, surrounded on all sides by the astonishing andenes the agricultural terraces that fueled the Inca Empire, and gave the Andes mountain range its name. The town Ollantaytambo gives an insight into the Inca way of life, with streets, houses and watercourses that survived the Spanish conquest. The imposing ridge leading up to the stunning views from the Temple of the Sun is a string of gigantic terraces, a fortress strong enough to repel the Spanish. The unfinished temple at the top leaves you wondering how the Incas managed to move enormous rocks around the valley and up its ridges to shape them into precision stone walls by hand. Inca Historical Tour - The Reconstructed Ruins of the Puruchuco 02:32

Inca Historical Tour - The Reconstructed Ruins of the Puruchuco

    by FerturPeruTravel (7/5/09) 213 views

http://www.fertur-travel.com/inca_rebellion_archaeological_tour.html The Puruchuco site in Lima has been left in a good state of preservation, but has faced its share of controversy. This is due to the influence of Dr. Arturo Jimnez Borja who was chosen to lead the reconstruction of the archaeological buildings. Between 1953 and 1960 he directed works at the site, consolidating some walls, reconstructing others and positioning roofs. He founded an on site museum, considered a pioneer of this type of institution at archaeological sites in Peru. He was dedicated to the preservation and study of the area, and organized cultural events that promoted the monument to the public. Sightseers view the ruins from a series of terraces constructed in stages on the peak near the site, from which they can see a panoramic view of the complex. The restoration integrated the ancient buildings, and filled them with the artificial lights and sound systems typical of a modern cultural space. When these works were completed they were heavily criticized from within the scientific and archaeological community, They argued that the works had not been publicized prior to reconstruction, and damaged the heritage value of the site. This might explain why the Puruchuco complex was not always counted highly in archeological studies. But the discovery of more than a thousand Inca burial bundles in the last decade has reignited archaeological interest in the site, with the National Geographic Society funding efforts to protect the burial grounds from damage caused by the shanty town of Tupac Amaru that has sprung up next to and in some cases on top of the excavations. Inca Historical Tour - The Four Sectors of Puruchuco Ruins

    by FerturPeruTravel (7/5/09) 185 views

http://www.fertur-travel.com/inca_rebellion_archaeological_tour.html Puruchuco is located in the modern city of Lima, but it was constructed by the Incas between 1450 and 1532. Everything that happened here was marked in a ceremonial calendar, part of a building dedicated to religious activities. The architects who designed Purchucos divided it into four sectors: A, B, C and D. Sector A is linked to everything concerned with the outside world. It was here that inhabitants performed all their public activities. Sector B served as the living area for permanent residents of Purchuco. Here youll find a kitchen and other quarters for the private daily life of townspeople. Sector C is the compounds sacred area, where religious ceremonies took place. The. beauty of the architecture in this area reflects its ceremonial function. And last of all, Sector D is organized around a small patio and terrace. This area was the destination for perishable products that were then prepared for storage. Fertur Peru Travel. Inca Historical Tour - The Amazing Development in Puruchuco Architecture 01:25

Inca Historical Tour - The Amazing Development in Puruchuco Architecture

    by FerturPeruTravel (7/4/09) 170 views

http://www.fertur-travel.com/inca_rebellion_archaeological_tour.html Puruchuco took its building tradition from the Ychsmas culture that developed in the Rimac and Lurin river valleys during the late Intermediate Period from 900 to 1450 AD. From the Ychmas the builders took materials and construction techniques, adapting them to produce their own designs, like Pyramids with Ramps. Mud was used as the main building material. The technique used to build the walls was called tapial or adobon and required the use of large molds or formwork, which were filled with mud. Once it dried the mold was removed, leaving behind a large mud block. Repeating this process on each side, or on top of another block, the builders could form long, high and very strong walls, reaching heights of up to 7 meters.or 23 feet. This technique is similar to the way todays builders work with concrete. Inca Historical Tour - The Metal Collection of Puruchuco

    by FerturPeruTravel (7/4/09) 160 views

http://www.fertur-travel.com/inca_rebellion_archaeological_tour.html The inhabitants of Puruchuco used ovens or furnaces to transform the minerals they found into metals.. They were built on high peaks to ensure the good ventilation needed to produce a flame hot enough for metallurgy. The metal created this way was not totally pure, so it had to be refined again in ovens called toccochimpus Blacksmiths created alloys like tumbago, a mix of copper and gold, along with mixtures of copper and silver, and also copper, silver and goldalways using a higher percentage of copper than the other metals. Archaeologists have also found alloys with mechanical properties.. ..such as strength, durability and malleability. The most common of these were bronzes with high concentrations of tin and arsenic. http://www.fertur-travel.com/inca_rebellion_archaeological_tour.html The textiles of Puruchuco on show in the museum reveal evidence of a high culture with sophisticated artistic qualities. They show that a diversity of techniques was used to make the clothing found at the site. Dyed textiles, nets, tapestries, items made from feathers, simple cloth, gauze, and sewn metallic sequins have all been discovered. Archaeologists have found llautas or hair bands, unkus or shirts and chuspas or bags in the diverse collection of clothes and adornments found on site Theyve been decorated with a variety of icons, depicting birds hunting for fish, rampant wild cats or marine wildlife, including the river crayfish or camarones that are still popular in modern Peruvian cuisine. Peru Archaeology Vacation - The Ceramics of Puruchuco

    by FerturPeruTravel (7/4/09) 172 views

http://www.fertur-travel.com/inca_rebellion_archaeological_tour.html The ceramics of Puruchuco display some of the most significant cultural evidence found at the site. Theyve provided conclusive chronological information thats helped archaeologists determine the period when the buildings were constructed. The ceramics are characterized by their globular shape, brown clay and relatively sparse decoration. The dishes stand out for the use of white paint that covers the edges of each piece.. ..especially the parts that correspond with borders, corners, where the neck of a jug meets the body, and around the handles. Most often these pieces formed a part of funerary collections from the Inca period, in groupings of related ceramic material. Fertur Peru Travel. Travel Agency in Peru - The Fortress of Kuelap

    by FerturPeruTravel (7/4/09) 73 views

http://www.fertur-travel.com/chachapoyas_tours.html The Fortress of Kuelap is one of Perus hidden archaeological treaures, often called the Machu Picchu of the North Built on a mountain ridge at an altitude of 3000 meters above sea level, the fortress is proof of the incredible stoneworking skill of the Chachapoyas people, who dominated the region between 1000 and 1400 AD. The gigantic wall that protects the city includes a series of guard posts, a tower built overlooking a sheer cliff and three narrow entrances that forced invaders to enter in single file. The wall reaches a height of 8 meters and extends for more than 600 meters to completely encircle the ruins. The city inside is made entirely of stone, but in a very different architectural style from the Incas, with carvings of human faces and animal figures lining the main entrance passageway. A string of geometric shapes, rhomboid stonework is built into the walls of most buildings. The most common houses take the form of more than 400 large circular buildings, some of which have been reconstructed with conical thatched roofs to give visitors an idea of what they looked like when people were living here. Kuelaps remote location at the top of a cloud forest means it gets fewer visitors than the more famous attractions around Cusco, but those that make it here get a real sense of ancient life in an eerie, isolated setting, surrounded by orchids, moss-laden trees and bromeliads. The mix of ancient ruins and encroaching natural beauty creates a powerful impression. Its easy to imagine how the fortress remained impregnable to armies like the Wari and other invaders. It took an empire like the Incas to conquer Kuelap and the Chachapoyas people, but they continued to fight the invaders for decades after their defeat. Theyve left little of their language and culture to history, but their stone cities stand as their greatest monument. Fertur Peru Travel. Travel Agency in Peru - The Virgin Asunta, the Patron of Chachapoyas

    by FerturPeruTravel (7/4/09) 137 views

http://www.fertur-travel.com/chachapoyas_tours.html Each 15th of August the church and parish of Chachapoyas celebrate the festival of Mama Asunta It all started between 1842 and 1845 when a local man, Julin Monteza returned from living in the Ecuadorian capital Quito... He brought back two beautiful religious icons, the first was a statue of Jesus of Nazareth, the second depicted the Virgin of the Assumption. With the passage of years, customs and tradition she was rebaptised with the name Virign Asunta. The arrival of the statues from Ecuador was greeted by a procession, with drums and horns, but also in a religious spirit. Since then Chachapoyas has reprised the festival every year, with everyone in town joining the fervent celebrations. Fertur Peru Travel.
