    Explosive Chewing Gum Kills Man

Ukraine: A student studying chemistry at Kiev Polytechnic Institute has died after the chewing gum he was chewing exploded and blew the lower half of his face off. He was found by a relative who entered the room to investigate a loud 'pop'.

According to police the 25-year-old liked to dip his chewing gum in citric acid. It is thought that he dipped the chewing gum in a yet to be identified explosive substance by mistake.

Forensic experts are coming to identify the unidentified substance found on the gum and on the desk where he had been working after local officials refused to ship it to the lab over fears it might explode enroute.

Over one billion Asians depend on glaciers in the Himalayan mountains for water, but they are melting rapidly enough to threaten large portions of Pakistan, India, China, Nepal and Bhutan with drought, experts say.

Temperatures in the region have risen from between one-quarter and just over one degree Fahrenheit each decade for 30 years, dramatically accelerating the pace of the glaciers' melt. The glaciers may mostly be gone by 2050 at the present rate.

"The deal reached at Copenhagen will have huge ramifications for the lives of hundreds of millions of people living in the Himalayan drainage systems who are already highly vulnerable due to widespread poverty," said environmentalist Prashant Singh.
