"Lotus Park is a 32 bed assisted living facility located in West Haven, a beautiful area that is surrounded by pastures and homes. It looks like some place that maybe your Grandma would live when you drive up. You don't necessarily think that it's a facility. You think it's just a really nice large home. It kind of is unique to Lotus Park. A lot of facilities you drive up and you know it's a facility. But here, people that I've run into have said "I just thought it was somebody's home being built" but it's not. It's a lot larger when you get in it. When you see it from the front it does look like a nice sized home, but then they get in and walk in it and it looks a lot bigger. But compared to some of the other facilities that carry 100+ patients, we don't do that. We only can have 32 patients in here and it's not a place that you're going to get lost in. You're to going to walk in here and have to go find somebody to find where you're going to do. There's only a few hallways and there's no more than 7 rooms in a hallway, so nobody gets lost. "One good thing that is unique to this building is the air exchange system that's here. This place is not going to stink. It can't because the air is replaced, it can be, every 15 minutes to every hour the air in this facility is replaced. And so even if somebody had a bad accident and it did smell really bad it's not going to be here long, it's in and out. That's going to be huge because when you are a resident in a facility like this, smell is a huge deal. If you have to smell stinky things all day, how discouraging is that? So that was a big deal to the owners who built this. We're not going to have a smell problem. The carpet is all in squares. If there was any type of an accident or a spill or anything we don't just clean the carpet, we take the carpet out, the same as the sill, we put a new piece of carpet back in. We're not going to grow germs, we're not going to have bacteria, it's not going to smell, and it's not going to look bad. Aesthetically we're going to always look good. They will for sure make sure that they get the Sacrament, and they will provide a relief society. There is St. Mary's that is a Catholic church that's just down the street. "One of the things when I was first approached be the owners to be the administrator, I immediately knew who I wanted to hire as my nurse. It was a big deal to me because I've worked with her before. She is very very particular about how she takes care of her patients. I've witnesses how she takes care of her patients. I've seen her do things for her patients that are above and beyond the call of duty, that aren't just defined by the nursing ethics. She bonds with her patients and she takes very good care of them and I knew she would do that here. I knew I wouldn't have to worry. That took a huge load off my shoulders, knowing if she came with me the patients would be taken care of. So that was a big deal. She has been very particular about how out aids care for our patients. Just the small details, making sure that they have everything they need to either care for themselves or if we need to help them. Such as making sure they have good oral care or that they're getting their showers and that their hair is taken care of, that we don't let them come out and not have somebody make sure they're dressed right. Not that they have to dress super particular or really great but we keep it nice and presentable because some of them will want to come out on their own and maybe it's not what should be seen in public. But she's really particular and she makes sure they're getting enough to eat and enough to drink. We try not to be too forceful and make it feel like it's really clinical and you have to do this stuff. We try to give and take a little because some of them don't want to eat enough. So we try to encourage them or we try to at least find foods that they like so they will eat. They lose their appetite and they start losing weight. We need to make sure that they're eating right and getting enough food. So we try to do it delicately but yet still accomplish the goal.
