Biography


Seraphina Samet completed an MA in Animation at the Royal College of Art in 2005, and a BA degree in Fine Art Film and Video at Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design in year 2000.

Recently completed works include; Dancing in Circles, a bitter-sweet meditation on lost love; It’s what’s on the surface that matters…, a memento mori for ...a friend; Empathy with Trees, a commentary on the artist’s experience of school; and Coming Back, a work inspired by her life as a student.

Empathy with Trees (2007) was recently screened at The Gate and Greenwich Picturehouses, as part of ‘Derek Jarman’s Film Poetry of the Small Medium Lives On’, in association with the Derek Jarman Exhibition at the Serpentine Gallery- ‘It’s A Sin: the Films and Inspirations of Derek Jarman’ This short was also accepted by Four Docs, and for a monthly screening in London run by James Esposito, director of Underground Films Ltd. Coming Back (2007) and Me Myself and I (2005) were selected for the Peripheral Visions Programme BBC Big Screens.

Me Myself and I (2005) and 84 (2005) have been seen at; Festival Premiers Plans D’Angers 07, ResFest Korea, special RCA programme 05, and Black Night Animated Dreams, Estonia 05.

Empathy with Trees (2007), Coming Back (2007), It’s what’s on the surface that matters… (2007), and “I invite the ghosts to come back and sit down a while with me” (2007) were premiered at the British Film Institute; and Dancing in Circles (2006) was premiered, together with a retrospective of Samet’s work at the Institute of Contemporary Arts in 2007.

Seraphina Samet’s films are also selected for the Uncut Film Forum on a regular basis.
