Robert DeFatta, M.D., Ph.D. is a native of Louisiana where he cultivated a love of science at an early age. While in high school, he was selected to attend the International Science and Engineering Fair during his junior and senior year, and both times, he was awarded forth place. He also received an award from the United States Department of Energy, which was presented to the top 10 participants of the nearly 3,000 presenters from all 50 states and 30 countries from around the world. Dr. DeFatta continued his devotion to science while he attended Louisiana State University where he received his Bachelors degree in Biochemistry. While at LSU, Dr. DeFatta received the distinction of Mortar Board Top Ten Freshmen from a class of nearly 7,000 students. While at LSU, Dr. DeFatta was selected for various honor societies, including Phi Kappa Phi, Omicron Delta Kappa, and Alpha Epsilon Delta. After graduation, Dr. DeFatta entered a combined M.D. / Ph D. program at Louisiana State University Health Science Center in Shreveport.
