Full screen! Crank the volume! My 18th vid! (originally filmed June 08, 2009)This vid goes out as a request from one of my subscribers. Big thanks for his patience and loyalty as a longtime subscriber! With this song I wanted to keep the energy of the song without having it be too busy, in fact, it was requested that the song not be too complex so I tried to keep things simple yet powerful. I really tried to feel the mood of the song and hear the words as I played, I kinda like that heavy blues with a hint of country vibe its got going on. I know I had a lot of fun so enjoy!
Full screen! Crank the volume! My 17th vid! (originally filmed April 25, 2009) Today is a big day for me! I first heard this song in Guitar Hero 2 in a Best Buy and instantly loved it. It was powerful and raw, especially that first scream that starts the song out! I figured I'd never be able to play anything like that, in fact, I couldn't even get past the opening in Guitar Hero! Even after getting my first guitar, I felt like I might never get to play that song. But I practiced daily and relentlessly and become a fan of All That Remains and many other similar bands. I didn't think I'd ever be able to, but today I present Six, slightly altered (as I tend to do ;)
Full screen! Crank the volume! Hell yeah! my 10th vid! (originally filmed Nov 22, 2008) Pretty straightforward cover of the song, with a few minor differences (so people know I played it ;) Unfortunately I've noticed my video/sound sync for the rhythm guitar goes terrible whenever I use a particular overdrive setting on my POD (any help to fix this will be appreciated!) and at about 3:55 on the lead track, I ran out of memory on my card while I was filming and thus the last breakdown was not filmed for the lead, however, since I record direct to my computer, the SOUND for the lead during that last breakdown is intact, in fact youll hear me play some strange sounding note at about 4:20 right before the song ends. ;)
Full screen! Crank the volume! My 16th vid! (originally filmed March 18, 2009) I wanted to get back to some heavier music so I grabbed one of the more metal-ish songs off my list and decided to give it a go. I really like how it came out! This song is so kickass because it starts out pretty heavy, but slowly morphs into a more melodic, heartfelt metalcore expression, I also never really paid attention to the words until recently and they made me love the song even more! And to top things off, since the lead singer is of African descent, it gives me some tangible hope that someday I might be able to play my music for a large, live audience too! Here's to hoping! XD As always, HORNS!
Full screen! Crank the volume! My 15th vid! I actually would have had this up sooner, but I had some equipment problems to deal with that unfortunately I still have yet to resolve... This song was great fun for a few reasons, my favorite of which being, this is the first and last time I will ever be able to have my pre-customized guitar play together in a video with my customized one! Another reason is that the gentleman who requested this song skates, which I did for about 5 years and have fond memories of, and a third is that I watched the video for this song and it really moved me, making me want to give my all while playing. (I highly recommend that you look the video up if possible) Finally, this in no lie, those of you who have been following my last two request videos know that both of them (filmed almost a month apart) were filmed while it was raining. Guess what was happening outside while I filmed this one... CRAZY!!!!
Full screen! Crank the volume! My 14th vid! (originally filmed Feb 7, 2009) After what seems like forever, I FINALLY got the request done. Sorry about the delay Hero! I get especially weird when it involves a subscriber request lol, I want them to like it so I get performance anxiety or something! Anyway, I tried to give this remix a mix of flavors, we got some funky licks, a second verse that has got to be my favorite part of the song, and after long last, I've actually become able to shred some! I practiced the song standing up and let me tell you, headbanging, then pausing just long enough to shred felt AWESOME!!!! In a fun bit of personal trivia, my last request vid was performed when it was raining (my Indestructible remix) and so was this one! Hmmmm...
Full screen! Crank the volume! My 13th vid! (originally filmed Jan 27, 2009) I have a soft spot for this song. Back when I was skateboarding this song was kinda the anthem being played on the block with all of us skater kids who thought we were being real rebellious. Its also the first song I ever got guitar tabs for. I thought it was going to be easy to play because there were a lot of power chords in it. I was wrong. lol Fast forward a few months, and now not only can I play the song, I've been able to be creative with it! Progress!
Full screen! Crank the volume! ***WARNING VIDEO STARTS LOUD*** My 12th vid! (originally filmed Dec 26, 2008) Doing a little time travelling to end this year's crop of videos! I originally filmed the rhythm part of this videos shortly after posting my second video here on youtube (near the end of Jan 08)and didn't have the skills at the time to do anything that I wanted to try in this song. Now I'm a bit better, so now, almost 10 months later, I've added the lead guitar. Lol, I get to play a song with my younger, more inexperienced, more facially hairy self! I tried to put a little bit of everything I've learned this year in this video, so its got sweep, economy, tremelo, and alternate picking, harmonies, tapping, wide vibrato, harmonics, call and response, you name it! Compare it to some of my earlier vids (they're all numbered) to see progress! Horns!
Full screen! Crank the volume!!! My 11th vid (originally filmed Dec 19, 2008) I wanted to do something a bit more atmospheric than usual so this song ends up a little more melancholy than some of the other stuff I've played. I think the delay along with the slightly fusion-esque parts helped give the feeling I was looking for. Enjoy Oh and at 0:38... Simultaneous head bobbing! (It doesn't always happen, so gotta love it when it does!) Horns up! By the way, sorry about the darkness in the rhythm section, it was raining all day while I filmed so I couldn't get any good lighting.
Full screen! Crank the volume! My 9th vid (originally filmed Oct 13, 2008) What with the problems Americans are facing with the financial crisis, I thought it would be cool to play a song that speaks directly to that issue. A lot of what caused the crisis was greed, pure and simple. If you can find the lyrics to this song, read them. They are simple but profound. By the way, for the first verse I recorded two guitar parts, I just didn't film the harmonized part, so you' can understand why the first verse has that "doubled up" sound (which I love!) Horns!
