3 Must See Videos & I'm Moving to LA - JTWebMan #78

So I have filled up my days with getting ready to move out there. I am going to stick to one video a week on Tuesday till I get out there and settled in. Then I will go back to 2 videos a week and maybe even more. If you watch the show before I was doing news I did vlogs as well every other day. I plan on bring those back since I want to lose weight and I just found them fun as well. I didn’t want to put them on the main channel so I created a new channel called JTWebManVlog. Hulu Requiring Cable Revision3 Acquired by The Discovery Channel

My guess is that the are lose cable service to Hulu and since Hulu is owned by some cable companies they are not a fan of this. I think this is the wrong way to go. People will just view the shows on the TV sites or pirate them more. Cable companies it's time to wake up your time might be over. You had a good run you just need to move to internet services. Now Revision3 CEO is saying that they are going to continue doing what they are doing and are going to start working in some Discovery channel stuff into the new media. Revision3 might also get some of their shows on TV as well. It was bound to happen to one of the new media networks spring up. Lets see how it goes and hope it's not a trend and new media is nice because it gives the power to the content creators instead of the network and advertisers. Google Drive is Here & The Raven with John Cusack Releases

No it’s not the new Google car that can drive itself its cloud disk space. You get 5GB instead of just 2 GB on Dropbox. You also can upgrade to 25 GB for only $2.50 a month or 10 cents a GB! And at the higher level 100 GB and higher it’s only $5 a month or 5 cents a GB. They have planes at 5 cents a GB all the way to 16 TB. Now I have heard people saying this might be a killer for Dropbox but I dought it. First Dropbox is free for 2 GB and then you get a extra 500 MB per referral up to 16 GBs more making it a total of 18 GB Free. If you haven’t signed up for Dropbox I’ll put a link below. I only have referred 2 people so I could use more space :) Get 2GB Free on Dropbox: http://db.tt/3rlreA2 So Dropbox allows you to get more Free storage but when it comes to paid it cost twice to 3 times more for the same storage. Skydrive is pricer as well though you get 7GB free. So it does look like Google has undercut their competitors so we will have to see if they win out or not. The new movie The Raven comes out today. Now I am excited for The Raven and I am looking forward to see it this weekend. First because it has John Cusack in it and I grew up watching some great movies with him in it like Say Anything, Sixteen Candles, and my favorite from the 80’s One Crazy Summer. Second because Edgar Allan Poe death is still a mystery today so it’s fun to see a fictional story told about it. Android Vs IOS Vs Windows 8 / Phone - JTWebMan #73

There will be a little news in the show but really this is my option and nothing more. iOS will stay the king or the cream of the crop but they really have been that for a while now. The sell you overpriced hardware to give you a great user experience but windows or google could swoop in and do the same on cheaper hardware and win. I think Windows has a great shot at doing that with Windows 8 tablets vs iPad. This is the same for all high end electronics. It stays in the top 5 to 15% of purchasers and with the middle class (or the jones) shrinking they are going to find it harder and hard to sell. Though they have done great at selling it to iOS users over and over each year. Android is open, right now it’s hurting them because there is to many versions but in the end this allows them to stay flexible unlike iOS and Windows. As even though it’s a pain being a developer there will be more devices I can write for on the Android platform than any other and it will stay that way unless Windows 8 tablets take over corporations as standard workstations. iOS use to have all the cool apps and it would take a while to move to Android. That time frame keeps shrinking and for the most part now all new apps get a Android version right away or much sooner than before. The reason for the gap is iOS users / mac users are use to spending more money on electronics so spending 99 cents or $1.99 on a app is nothing for them. Android mark is not the same. You have to write free apps and put advertising in them. So it’s harder to make money with Android apps vs iOS apps. I think that is slowly changing now to favor Android but not yet. Microsoft is making a huge mistake by forcing the same interface across all platforms. I am all for having a single OS across them all but you interact way different with a touch device like a phone and tablet then you do on a desktop computer with a keyboard and mouse. Forcing such a huge change on the bread and butter which is desktop OS for personal and corporate computers will be a mistake. There is nothing wrong with have a different interface for a desktop vs a tablet or phone and forcing it will not make people move over. I see a huge Windows Vista mistake for them coming unless they change something with the mouse and keyboard interface. Second Microsoft has tried to get in the mobile space for a long time now and they seem to always be behind. They lost to Palm and then Blackberry and now iOS and Android. With such a long streak of strikeouts and this strict think of using the same interface across all devices I see them coming to hard times soon. If you agree or disagree with me that is great. Evacuated Tube Transport & Dick Clark RIP - JTWebMan #72

He was most known for hosting American Bandstand and a host on a bunch of game shows. I want to dedicate this show to Dick Clark, you are an inspiration to all that broadcast, you will be remembered. In some geeky hope to have one day news, Evacuated Tube Transport or ETT for short is a new transport type that has pop back up into the news. ETT basically uses airless vacuum tubes and a frictionless magnetic rail to push these little pods around. These pods can run much faster than trains and use far less energy to get to their destinations. You might be asking well how fast can they go, well in a regional setting like within the state they could get up to 350 mph and across the country or world can get up to 4000 mph. Getting you from New York to LA in 45 minutes and cutting 5 hours off a flight and costing 90% less. Now this isn’t new, it has been around since the early 90’s and even had a patent filed for it in 1997. So I say instead of going to the moon lets build this! Now don’t take this the wrong way I think going back to the moon is cool though Mars would be even cooler but with the US at over 15.5 trillion dollars in debt. Which by the way is over $50,000 dollars per person in the US. We might want to spend it on something that we know has a direct impact on making us more productive and making more money to pay off the debt. Though shoot what am I think just close the US foreign bases and pull out of all these meaningless wars and we could afford to send man to the moon again or mars. Ok sorry about the rant, what would be even better would be for a railroad company, since they have the real estate, to pick it up or any private company. Tupac Back, CISPA the New SOPA, Reed Hastings Rants on Comcast

The internet is 50/50 on if they like this or not but it seems like most think it was a little weird but would go see live events where other died artists were holograms as well. I know I would go see Michael Jackson or John Lennon or even someone really old like Mozart but how about you would you pay money to go to a live event that was a hologram? Ok so I was joking a little on the intro CISPA as it isn’t totally like SOPA and PIPA as it’s not about piracy or privacy issues but the bills share similarities in that it raises red flags with digital rights. The language of CISPA is vague, broad and leaves much open for interpretation, which is not good for us as the government will push it to it’s limits. CISPA would amend the current law and allow the private sector and government to share information. Now it doesn’t require the private companies to share the information but if and once it’s shared it could be passed to anyone. They are relaxed on what cybersecurity provider means as well just saying, “goods and services intended to be used for cyber security purposes.” You might be saying what does that mean. Your guess is as good as mine. In short it could allow companies to pass your history or any information between them and the US government without a warrant or any due process. Reed Hastings the CEO of Netflix went on a rant yesterday in a Facebook post. He said Comcast was not using net neutrality when it came to network bandwidth caps. He pointed out if you watch a show using Comcast’s Xfinity service it doesn’t count towards your cap but that watching Netflix or Hulu would count. I can see why he is mad about it but think if you watch a show using a cable box it would be the same so I am not sure if that really counts. What do you guys think is it not net neutrality? Google+ New Look, Facebook Timeline Apps, & Tribes Ascend

I know I use it but I have noticed it slowing down. I have to say I am not a fan of the change but it might be better than what they had before. First I don’t use the chat so why take up the right side for a feature that might or might not be being used? Second the center content is pushed to the left. So on smaller screens it probably looks ok but on my big 24 inch monitor it looks bad as you can see here. But Google is doing the right things as they made $10.65 billion for the quarter and that’s up 24 percent from last year. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A3Atj57r15U In a little app development news, Viddy, UStream, StumbleUpon and even Digg have seem to boost their new signups and interaction with building apps for the new Facebook timeline. Now I have to say I am still not a fan of the time line, it can be very powerful and has a lot of data but it makes the pages confusing and filled with way too much, but that’s old news and just my opinion. What it does for applications like Viddy which a video sharing app for the iPhone and UStream which is a live video sharing website is getting a them a huge bump in interactions. Companies are calling it the “Timeline Bumb” so that good news for apps and if you don’t have a timeline app and have a app you might want to think about it. I wonder if I could make a Wordpress Plugin Timeline App? In some gaming news Tribes Ascend was released today. Basically it’s a free first person shooter much like Halo. I only played around in practice but it looks like a fun game. So if you are into first person shooters you should check it out.
