3 Quick Tips for How to Play the Piano

While I know that learning how to play the piano is not something that can be mastered overnight, the idea of this article is to portray the 3 quick tips that will get you set up and ready for learning how to play the piano smoothly and efficiently. Not everyone has the gift of picking up piano straight away. While some people can play by ear, others find they can only read notes. If you are capable of both, you will find that you should be a great piano player soon enough. 1. Find a good teacher. If you can't afford to hire a teacher, start watching tips and lessons regarding posture, technique, how to hold your fingers, and more to help educate yourself. You should be able to find videos on Youtube with a search. You should also be able to find some quality piano lesson books in thrift stores or used book stores. Try to stick with one series though such as The Bastien method books or Hal Leonard. This will make it easier to transition from level to level as you learn more. 2. Learn Your Scales. You can never get enough practice in when it comes to your scales. You should be able to do them in your sleep. The better you master your scales, the easier it will be to learn how to pick up the notes of your songs and know when you are off key. 3. Take your time learning each piece. Start with the right hand and then learn the left. Once you know each hand well, you can put them together to complete the whole song. In this way, your mind will know what each hand is supposed to be doing and how they are supposed to come together to make a whole. Don't get discouraged if it takes a long time to learn each song. Better to learn it well and make beautiful music than rush through and sound choppy or un-even. Once you know the song, you can then work on the tempo and learn to play it at the pace it should be played. Talk to others on forums, and in person to see what they do to help them quickly or easily get through spots they find difficult when they are learning how to play the piano. If you have an iphone, you may even be able to get an app to help you practice your chords and scales while out and about. If you really desire to learn how to play piano, you will find a way to be successful.
