Welcome back zappers, Im Devin Curry with http://Shazap.com. Your online video source for comic book news and reviews. Follow me on Twitter at http://twitter.com/devincurry. So in the last review I started to speak of consistency in this title and how it is jumping from story to story and lacking the cohesiveness to really keep it a solid story. Here we go again. No follow up with hammerhead or Mr Negative. I mean come on half of the street kids in Manhattan were just killed not to mention almost our favorite wall crawler on Mr Negative’s orders, but I’m sure Spidey wouldn’t make finding him a priority. No, he needs to train for his cabby job and run off on an adventure with the punisher. Don’t get me wrong this is a good story but not up to the level that this book has been of lat and where it would be. But hey, at least we got to see the bookie back in action. What is it with that character and why is he still here. The whole spider tracer mystery has been hanging around for so long without any real payoff that I’m over it I don’t really care if they find the killer or if they just let that little plot line fade away. The Mr Negative story was good but they let it go like they have everything else that made Spiderman a great book. Distributed by Tubemogul.

    Ultimatum #1 - Comic Review - Shazap.com

Like a lot of big event books it’s hard to really make any judgments after the first issue. One thing that did surprise me though, was that a lot of people died. Nightcrawler, beast, Wasp, maybe Johnny, Sue and Doctor Storm, and a lot of people all around the world. That is a big chance to take in a universe. I mean they killed off almost half of their characters. If the storms are really dead how can the fantastic four title really go on? It’s not the fantastic duo or “Stretcho and Thing” save the world. There will always be new X-Men to fill out the roster but those were a couple of very significant characters to kill off so non chelauntly. This is looking to be a big deal and the question of will how they are going to move forward with the ultimate universe is reason enough alone to stick with it. The art is great in this book and the image of Magneto witting on his thrown in genohsa that we’ve seen plastered all over the books the last few weeks is incredibly powerful and gallery worthy. I’m curious though why he has a big old school thor hammer next to him. The tag line at the end of this issue is “Next: It gets worse. That I’m interested to see because things are pretty bad as it is. Distributed by Tubemogul.

    Old Man Logan #69 - Comic Review - Shazap.com

I’ve loved this book so far, Mark Millar has done an amazing job of creating this future world and building the mystery of how it came to be. The anticipation was getting to me and I was getting sick of the hints and suggestions at what had happened to Logan to bring him to the place he is today. This issue is admittedly slow. There is a lul in both action and story. I had almost lost hope until the last three pages. This issue is just one big cliff hanger. Wolverine almost snaps and finally breaks down and gets ready to tell Hawkeye what he went through when the bad guys won. Now it will be a big mistake if Marvel continues to drag this on. They have teased us enough and at the end of the day this is just and basic what if or else world story so there is not much reason to stick with it other than the story itself. If the story isn’t paying off then there is no reason to keep reading. We’ll have to wait and wait and see what is to come but I remain optimistic. Distributed by Tubemogul.

    Spiderman #576 - Comic Review - Shazap.com

Spiderman is back to where he should be. Don’t get me wrong, I’m still not completely OK with the Brand New day and the effects that it had on Spidey’s powers and life, but the book is at least fun and exciting and a Spidey book again. Hammer Head is just scary good and I love what they’ve done with the character. We’ve got another new writer in Joe Kelly, and while his books lack some of the humor that the previous books have had it is still true to the character and an enjoyable read. Looking back on this thrice monthly spidey I’ve had a few thoughts. First off, we’re not really getting more Spidey than we used to, it just happens to be telling the same story. I mean there have always been multiple Spiderman titles and we would generally end up getting them three times a month. Before, there was Amazing, Friendly Neighborhood, and Marvel Nights, and even Spectacular. This gave us three solid Spiderman different, but solid stories to follow or not depending on what you choose. Now, there are even more story lines up in the air, completely disjointed and by changing writers the book doesn’t have any consistency. While it’s on an upswing I’ve got to wonder how long it’ll last. In this case, 6 does not equal one half dozen, but hey it’s good now so enjoy it while you can. Distributed by Tubemogul.

    Anna Mercury #4 - Comic Review - Shazap.com 01:45

    Anna Mercury #4 - Comic Review - Shazap.com

You know I love this book and am kind of sad to hear that it will be wrapping up with the next issue. I love the world that they have created and the painted cover variants have been some of the best cover’s I’ve seen and definitely go into my favorite list. Last issue the mane character, Anna Mercury came back to our earth and pealed away all the pieces of her alter ego to reveal the person underneath. At first I was a little disappointed because like the people of Sheol, I wanted to believe that a person like Anna Mercury actually existed. She was strong, powerful and just a plain old badass. Warren Ellis however did a great job of showing Mercury within the person. She is a true hero and is jumping back into action. This issue leaves us with quite a cliff hanger and the classic set of insurmountable odds that make for great adventure. This is a great series and I can’t wait for the final book. Batman Detective Comics #850 - Comic Review - Shazap.com 02:03

    Batman Detective Comics #850 - Comic Review - Shazap.com

    by shazap (12/4/08) 249 views

Welcome back zappers, Im Devin Curry with http://Shazap.com. Your online video source for comic book news and reviews. Follow me on Twitter at http://twitter.com/devincurry. First off this is a pretty monumental accomplishment for DC getting to issue 850 with Batman. Congrats DC. This story ended a lot stronger than I had anticipated. I lost interest with the last issue and was just waiting for the end. The additional information about Hush and Tommy Eliot was great and added the depth to his character that really solidifies him as a part of Batman’s rogue gallery. He was definitely a strong character but he lacked some of the history that the other villains have. The Bat family came together, which I always enjoy seeing, but the best part of this story is the epilogue. Catwoman is one vindictive kitty. What she did to Hush in retaliation for his attack on her just down right awesome. It also leaves Hush desperate, broken and with nothing. I have a feeling he is going to come back stronger and more vicious than ever. This is a very exciting time to be into the bat books and the next few months have the potential to bring us some great stories. This is the end of one chapter and the next issues will be a good time to get in if you’re not already. Distributed by Tubemogul.

    Nightwing #150 - Comic Review - Shazap.com

    by shazap (12/4/08) 512 views

Welcome back zappers, Im Devin Curry with http://Shazap.com. Your online video source for comic book news and reviews. Follow me on Twitter at http://twitter.com/devincurry. I wasn’t real happy with how the last story ended but it did set up this issue which I enjoyed immensely. This story is getting into the heads of its heroes and villains. It follows the psychosis of two face in what has got to be one of the most heated battles between Two Face and Harvey dent that we have ever witnessed. Harvey is not only blaming Two Face for killing Carol, himself for failing her and Nightwing for not being able to stop Two Face. What is most interesting is what is going on with Nightwing. Dick blames himself for the death of Carol, and is set on bringing Two face to justice. Add on top of that the history of Two Face nearly beating him to death with a baseball bat when he was Robin, and more recently Harvey’s betrayal after the one year later when he went back to Two Face. When Barbara comes over she makes a comment that his voice changed when he was talking about Batman, it became like Bruce’s. It got the scary gravel. With Batman still missing and the Battle for the Cowl coming up is Nightwing finally becoming ready to accept the role Batman. Distributed by Tubemogul.

    Pretty Baby Machine #1 - Comic Review - Shazap.com

With the strength of crime noir genre there is bound to be a lot to choose from but how do you create good material. Well one way is to take strong characters and a setting that people are familiar with but there is enough mystery involved to play with. You wrap it all together and get a great series like pretty Baby Machine. These mobsters have all been slighted in one way or another by old scar face Al Capone and are setting the stage for their retribution. This issue did a great job of setting the stage with each of the characters back stories. This story also employs a brilliant use of the narrative and give this book a real cinematic feel. The only thing I didn't like about this book was the art. The black and white art style can do a lot to set the tone of the classic noir story but this particular book is overly simplistic for my taste and not able to convey the depth and emotion of the character that the narrative is creating. Story wise though this is a great read and worth picking up. Distributed by Tubemogul.

Final Crisis Series Overview - Comic Review - Shazap.com 02:41

Final Crisis Series Overview - Comic Review - Shazap.com

Like all DC events it has been huge in scope and story. After going back and reading through the story all together it does make more sense and is a bit more interesting. There are so many things going on with the story that a little re cap is important just to keep it all in perspective. Here's a few things that are going on that we need to keep an eye on as we move forward into the last three issues. After activating the circuit hidden on his skin the tattoo man now looks exactly like Metron in the first pages of issue number one and the design that was drawn at the beginning of man has been unearthed but what does it mean. Who is the figure on the skis that was hovering over Orion when he was murdered and followed the flashes when they ran after the bullet. What does the german super being who crashed in bloodhaven and why was the exiled monitor drawing her. As far as the anti-life equation is concerned how come some people need to where the helmet and others don't and what is the difference between the equation and the virus that wonder woman was infected with. Finally haw are the flashes going to save their world and is Bart coming back. Creating questions is a sign of good writing as long as they get answered. DC's got three more issues to answer them and we'll see how it gets done. Distributed by Tubemogul.
