I've just looked up the statistics, and it turns out that 50 million Americans suffer from some form of tinnitus. Not that I want to breathe a sigh of relief, but it's good to know that the condition isn't something incredibly rare that doctors won't know where to begin when it comes to treatment. It was also good to know that you can 'hear noises in your head' and no ...t be crazy. (Not that hearing voices which tell you what to do is related to tinnitus at all.)
Why am I preoccupied with tinnitus today? Well, I just got it. Yup, my doctors confirmed two weeks ago that I am joining the throngs of people who apparently just live with tinnitus year in and year out. I honestly don't know how they do it because, right now, I'm pretty darned annoyed at the constant din that is being produced inside my head, and don't know how to start living with it.
When I first got the news, I didn't want to write about it just yet. Not until I had something well worth saying. I mean, a blog post of complaints wasn't going to help either of us, right? So, being the book worm that I am, I decided to check out what other people say about tinnitus and what my options are (as I know doctors don't always present all the options.)
While flipping through some pages about tinnitus, I came across a book called 'Triumph Tinnitus Today.' Honestly, there are quite a few books about tinnitus and treatment, so why did I single this one out? Well, it was simple. I know we're not supposed to judge books by their cover, but can't we judge them from their cover page (sales page)? 'Cause that's what I did. 'Triumph Tinnitus Today's' sales page was well written and easy to read... not like some other tinnitus pages.
Well written and promised a natural treatment. What did I have to lose? After all, I was promised that I could return the product at the end of the day, if unsatisfied.
So I bought the book. It took me a week and a half to finish it, reading a little bit each day. I didn't want to get started on any of the treatment methods it prescribed until I had read everything and had a good idea of what the big picture was.
As a book, I can tell you that it is well written, quite concise, and it explains the conditions and factors related to tinnitus very well. It goes into a lot of details with regard to tinnitus as a condition, as well as with regard to treatment options (I knew my doctors weren't dishing it all out!)
Honestly, the various treatments it prescribes seem simple enough. Many of them can be done from home. Whether or not they work, well... I'm about to find out! I'm going to try and treat my tinnitus using this book, and I'm going to blog how it goes!
Wish me luck, as I am about to be a guinea pig!
