You're about to hear some massive excitement in the following video. I own a lot of jackets and it's safe to say I've never been this excited about one; actually two, as you're about to find out. Enter: Columbia's Back To Hells Mountain Interchange Jacket. [vid] Like the title says, this is an interchangeable jacket. I'm usually not a fan of zip-in liners, but I'm making a big exception here. By itself, the outer-jacket is Omni-Tech. That means waterproof and breathable: everything want and expect in a technical outer layer. Inside the Hells Mountain Jacket you'll find a down-filled acrylic/wool blend. The Back To Hells Mountain Interchange Jacket I'm reviewing is actually packed with a polyester / recycled polyester. Yup, no skimping here. A Liner With Serious Technology I've been wearing the liner jacket by itself for around town milling about and hikes through the snow. It's plenty warm and is no where near being too technical looking for a date with my wife. Two chest pockets carry everything I need. As if all this wasn't enough, Columbia topped off the liner's interior with Omni-heat. What's Omni-Heat you ask? You see those silly-looking reflective dots on the inside? Those serious bits of technology reflect your body heat back onto itself, allowing you to be warmer for a lighter weight piece of clothing. And it really works! I stood outdoors at the World Skiing Freestyle Competition with high winds and cold temperatures and I was toasty the entire time. Omni-Tech Shell The shell sheds rain and melting snow, wether from the clouds or the annoying ski lift cable above you. (I need to remember not to sit under it on warm days.) If you get hot, open the underarm vents. For a vertical foot challenge at Park City's Canyons Resort I competed in a vertical challenge. Underneath this jacket I only wore an Omni-Heat baselayer and I was perfectly warm on the lift and the trail. Inside you'll find a media pocket that allows you to pass a headphone cable into the phone without worry about your phone falling out. On the right side is a generous goggle pocket that also fits a pair of liner gloves at the same time. Nice touch. You'll appreciate the length, cut just long enough to keep out the snow. For me, I'm putting this in top of my resort bag and using it every time. Links Columbia's Back To Hells Mountain Interchange Jacket: ******* More gear reviews: *******

After a long day of hard work during an arctic expedition it’s time for the daily ritual of setting up the tent and melting snow into water that can be used for cooking or drinking. This whole process can take a few hours, depending on wether or not the gas burners are willing to cooperate. For those who happily obsess over their lawn and garden, the time of year this giddy bunch eagerly anticipates is here - spring. But, why wait until the weather fully cooperates? Now is the time to head to the shed to check tools, inspect your lawn and garden, and assess what winter has left behind. Troy-Bilt® (troybilt****), a leading manufacturer of outdoor power equipment, has put together this quick reference list for lawn and garden enthusiasts. For the Yard: -As the weather warms, watch for melting snow. -Heavy piles of melting snow on your lawn will create patches which will be especially vulnerable to spring lawn diseases like snow mold. Be sure to spread snow evenly to help speed melting. -Shop now for lawn care supplies such as fertilizer and seed. Retailers are well stocked and you'll find the best selection if you start early. -Don't wait until you need them - check your garden and lawn tools now to see if they are in working order. Sharpen the blades on your mower and replace any tools that are beyond repair. -Test your soil. Although you may be excited to get planting, it will be a much more fruitful year if you take a few steps back and treat your soil for any nutrient deficiencies before planting. -Prep for regular mowing. The lawn grows more rapidly in the spring, so set blades high for the first cutting then gradually lower the height with each mow - and never cut more than one-third of the blade of grass off to ensure a healthy and lush lawn. -Re-seed bare or damaged patches of your lawn as grass grows best in early spring. Helicopter report, An extensive mudslide has Highway 1 closed in both directions at Popkum Road in the Hope area for an indefinite period of time. The slide happened approximately 100 meters from the Herring Island exit this morning. It measures 25 feet deep and 200 feet long. Police say one car can been seen caught up in the slide, but all occupants are safe and accounted for. After a preliminary ground search, crews did not locate any additional cars under the slide, but police say the depth of the mud and debris make it difficult to complete the search. It appears a CN train was struck by debris, but wasn't derailed or significantly damaged. No one on board appears to have been injured. RCMP have confirmed that no homes were caught in the slide as previously reported. Heavy equipment will be moving in next to clear the debris. Meanwhile, traffic is being diverted to Highway 7 via Highway 9 through Agassiz. The Ministry of Transportation says the highway is expected to be re-opened by midnight on Thursday. Search and rescue crews had little to show after a ground search of a 60-metre wide mudslide on the Trans-Canada Highway between Chilliwack and Hope Wednesday afternoon. RCMP spokesman Sgt. Peter Thiessen said police, fire and search and rescue teams scoured the area, battling the deluge of mud and debris — said to be eight metres deep — that tore through the stretch of highway near Popkum Road shortly after 10 a.m. Crews found one vehicle stuck in the mud and retrieved all occupants "relatively uninjured." Thiessen said the rescue team, after finished the ground search, planned to bring in heavy equipment to sift through the debris-laden highway "to determine if any vehicles or individuals are trapped under the slide." Earlier Wednesday afternoon, rescue crews were forced out of the area after unstable debris made it "virtually impossible" to inspect the mud-covered highway. Ministry of Transportation engineers and geological technicians then used Lower Mainland Traffic Safety helicopter Air 1 — originally brought in to assist with an aerial survey of the slide — to determine when rescue operations could resume. About 20 CN Rail cars were also caught in the morning slide. The container train, headed westbound toward Deltaport, was struck by the slide about 20 km east of Chilliwack. CN spokeswoman Kelli Svendsen said no cars were derailed and no CN workers were injured. For B.C. Attorney-General Barry Penner -- who grew up in Chilliwack and represents Chilliwack-Hope in legislature -- the location of the slide comes as little surprise. "This is an area that's prone to landslides," said Penner, who was on site Wednesday afternoon to view the damage. "The Ministry of Transportation has spent a lot of money of the years making the area safer, but we live in a very mountainous province and at times, mother nature is stronger than all of us." In June 2000, a mudslide ripped the same stretch of highway between Chilliwack and Hope. No injuries were reported and both westbound and eastbound lanes were cleared within a day. In January 2002, a more devastating mudslide -- provoked by a winter storm -- struck the Trans-Canada Highway and surrounding areas in Hope and Chilliwack. According to previous reports, the storm and ensuing slide caused hundreds of thousands of dollars of damage to roads, homes and businesses in the area. According to Environment Canada meteorologist David Jonas, mudslides are often triggered by heavy, prolonged rainfall — usually between October and December. He said the "relatively dry" weather in the area indicates that the mudslide could have been triggered by something. "It's been relatively dry. There's been no massive rainfalls in the preceding days, weeks or even a month," Jones said. "I'm the sure weather has something to do with it, but there's something else as well." Penner said he thought the melting snow pack and steep, rocky slopes near the highway contributed to the slide. According to Thiessen, no homes were affected by the Wednesday morning mudslide, but both directions of the highway remained closed Wednesday evening.

I know we hear daily about "The Next Jackie Evancho." We all know there is no one like our Jackie, but this little girl is the closest I have seen to her natural gift, the music obviously flows through her, and the performance is magical! She is 8-year old Anastasia Petrik from the Ukraine. I have taken a few poetic liberties in translation of the lyrics, hopefully it makes more sense than some of the literal translations offered. Why is the snow so cruel, leaving traces of you? And why do we run in circles? Why are you running away from me? The melting snow turning to water wouldn't let me sleep till the morning. There is one thing you must know. I will love you forever. The melting snow turning to water wouldn't let me sleep till the morning. There is one thing you must know. I will love you forever. Why are the voices of the stars so quite at dusk? The wind brought the tears of the rain, but I don't need any tears. I no longer look in the future. I no longer count to a hundred. I no longer love February. It took you away from me forever. I no longer look in the future. I no longer count to a hundred. I no longer love February. It took you away from me forever. We separate because of a lie. We sleep when it is dark. And when the body trembles with excitement, it's ok to lose your mind. If you want to go, just go. If you want to forget, forget. Only know that at the end of the road she will return nevermore. If you want to go, just go. If you want to forget, forget. Only know that at the end of the road she will return nevermore. If you want to go, just go. If you want to forget, forget. Only know that at the end of the road it will return nevermore. Only know that at the end of the road ... she will return nevermore.
