Hidden Honeymoon Gems - Riga, Latvia - part of the weddings video series by GeoBeats. An excellent choice for a honeymoon Riga is Latvia's capital and its largest city. Riga's buildings, both homes and businesses, are frequently both brightly colored and elaborate. St. Peter's Church, in the old town, features a tower with a remarkable view. The history of Riga extends back to its earliest beginnings in the 2nd century AD. Vikings were the original founders of the city, though it was later taken over by crusaders. Riga was also part of the Hanseatic League and the Holy Roman Empire. In the 20th century, Riga suffered under the command of Germany during World War I and World War II. The Old Town has museums on this history and its time in the Soviet Union.

Hidden Honeymoon Gems - Hallstatt, Austria - part of the weddings video series by GeoBeats. The beautiful little town of Hallstatt, Austria is peaceful and romantic. It is located in picturesque mountains alongside the Hallstatter See, its scenic lake. It's fairly quiet with a population of less than 1,000 people. Small but ancient this is one of the oldest areas in Europe, at roughly 7,000 years old. The high salt content of the area made it wealthy in the ancient world. There are still traces of Roman and Iron Age civilizations in the area. Today, Hallstatt is known for both its historic value and its picture-perfect Austrian landscape.

Hidden Honeymoon Gems - Quito, Ecuador - part of the weddings video series by GeoBeats. For an urban yet a unique honeymoon destination, Quito is a metropolis and capital of Ecuador. Quito is divided into three sections, the northern modern district, the southern industrial district, and the central colonial district. The majority of the town's houses and buildings were built pre-dominantly in a Spanish style of architecture. It is blessed with superb architecture, elegant surroundings, and striking plazas. The foundations of this archaic town were laid in the 16th Century on the site of a previous Incan city. Quito is enveloped by fertile valleys, volcanic, and green mountains with lovely forestry, making it a true natural haven.

Travel Tip: 5 Off the Beaten Path Honeymoon Destinations - as part of the expert series by GeoBeats. Leslie Koch: I would recommend for anyone planning their honeymoon to consider destinations that are a little outside of the box. You don’t have to go to Europe, you don’t have to go to the Caribbean. Try South America. For example, for Fernando de Noronha in Brazil is possibly the most romantic destination I’ve ever been to. It has beautiful beaches, snorkeling with sea turtles, and it’s something you’ll never regret. Second, I would recommend the Great Barrier Reef in Australia. Taking a cruise and snorkeling in the deep sea is just an amazing and romantic experience. Third, I would recommend the islands of Southern Thailand, like Koh Lanta. They’re relaxed. There’s plenty of sunshine. It’s basically an ideal beach vacation without the package tourists. Fourth, I would recommend a camping destination, which might seem a little unusual, but I actually spent my honeymoon camping in Yellowstone National Park. The views are majestic. The opportunities for adventure are great, and you won’t regret it. Finally, check out a local destination in the U. S. Maybe even just book a nice hotel room in your hometown. It will save you a ton of money, and it will definitely be memorable.

Travel Tip: Honeymoon Planning Mistakes to Avoid - as part of the expert series by GeoBeats. Leslie Koch: Well, the honeymoon is basically the biggest adventure and vacation of your life, so it’s easy to make a couple of mistakes when you’re booking the trip. First of all, don’t believe that you have to pay top dollar for a unique travel experience. A lot of travel agents will try to sell you a luxury package that costs over $10,000, and that’s totally not necessary. In fact, you could even book parts of the trip yourself. Second, you need to temper your expectations a bit and just be willing to have a great time. Don’t be too worried about the food or the quality of the tour. It’s all about you and your partner, and if you have a positive attitude it’s going to be a great experience. Third, I would recommend trying a destination that’s a little bit off the track. So, you don’t necessarily have to go to the Caribbean or Europe to have a great time.

She blew £20,000 on a wedding for her beloved dog Lola, so it's hardly surprising shop-owner Louise Harris had to claw back expenses when it came to the honeymoon. Pet-lover Louise - who has spent more than £100,000 on her trio of pampered pups - did what any sensible, cash-strapped Brit would do and sent Lola and groom Mugly on a budget honeymoon to their local beach in Essex. Altogether the doggy holiday cost just £200. Louise, 32, said: "I went all out for Lola's wedding. I had to - it was her big day. I didn't realise how much the wedding was going to cost. It didn't start out with a £20,000 budget, but that is what it turned into. I have learned my lesson - no more doggy weddings in the future. "For the honeymoon I thought about the things that make Lola happiest and those things are seeing Mugly, going to beach and getting some doggy pampering. "All in all, their honeymoon only cost £200 compared to the thousands I spent on the wedding, but it turned out to be a lovely day anyway. It was about them catching up and rekindling their romance." Louise was joined by Mugly's owner Bev Nicholson.
