Ford Motor Company announced it's bringing back the well-known Ford Taurus name. The vehicle that redefined affordable family transportation is back with the new face of Ford – a bold new exterior design, more power and more standard safety features. The company also introduces a new name – Taurus X– for its three-row crossover and returns the Mercury Sable to the lineup as upgraded 2008-model versions. All three vehicles go on sale this summer. The move links a strong brand name with award winning vehicles. The 2008- model Taurus sedan and Taurus X – replace the Ford Five Hundred and Ford Freestyle. Each feature the signature Ford touch of the horizontal three-bar grille, standard electronic stability control, and other refinements to make it more distinctive, quieter, faster and safer. The 2008-model Mercury Sable replaces the Mercury Montego with extensive design, powertrain, and safety upgrades, as well as unique touches that make it a Mercury. They include Mercury's signature satin aluminum waterfall grille, jeweled projector beam headlamps, and a two-tone interior trim with unique accents. The vehicles offer available features that deliver style and the technology features customers desire like Ford Sync™. Ford Sync™, powered by Microsoft Auto software, is Ford’s new fully integrated, voice-activated in-car communications and entertainment system for mobile phones and digital music players. The Taurus X offers one touch flip-and-fold second-row seating and an available power rear liftgate. The Taurus name remains powerful today. It is one of the top three most recognized Ford nameplates, behind only the F-series and Mustang. Customer awareness of the Taurus nameplate remains at an impressive 80 percent. Subaru today unveiled the redesigned and newly named 2008 Subaru Tribeca at the New York International Auto Show. With powerful new styling, a new, larger displacement 3.6 liter H6 engine, improved performance and fuel efficiency, the new 2008 Subaru Tribeca delivers a unique balance of style, safety and functionality in a progressive SUV form. NEW DESIGN, MORE STYLE The exterior design of the new Tribeca is both streamlined and powerful, with a new, wider and taller grille, new front fenders and new hood design. The grille is now integrated into the front bumper, featuring a new chrome spread wing design, with the Subaru star cluster badge as the focal point. A raised hood line, deeper front valance and new headlamps visually widen and heighten the Tribeca, establishing greater road presence with a more SUV like appearance. The new grille flows into a powerful silhouette, enhanced by new rear three quarter windows. The rear quarter windows are also functional, and with the addition of new larger side view mirrors, improve side and rear vision as well as increasing visibility for third row passengers. The side profile also features powerful fender and wheel forms that enhance the Tribecas signature rising character line. All new rear styling includes a new rear valance below the tailgate and new, wider taillamps. MORE POWER: NEW 3.6 LITER H6 ENGINE The dramatic exterior styling changes reflect the major changes under the skin for the 2008 Subaru Tribeca. A new 3.6 liter boxer engine has been designed with a goal of improving low end torque and also lowering consumer running costs with a change to regular unleaded fuel. The larger engine displacement has increased engine torque to 247 lb. ft., up from 215, and horsepower to 256 from 245, providing improved low end torque without sacrificing high rpm power. The new engine package, despite the larger engine size, not only maintains emissions levels but delivers improved fuel efficiency in real world driving situations. To achieve these goals without affecting engine packaging, a unique shortened con rod was created to allow for a new and larger displacement engine without increasing the physical dimensions of the power unit. Keeping the deck height of the engine the same, the Tribeca is able to maintain its excellent low center of gravity. Improved cooling efficiency needed to achieve the use of regular fuel was achieved through a new common rail cooling system that individually cools each cylinder with water separation chambers rather than allowing water to flow from cylinder to cylinder. This allows for increased engine efficiency and standardized timing for all cylinders. The new 3.6 liter engine features Active Valve Control System AVCS variable valve timing on both the intake and exhaust valves the 3.0 liter engine had AVCS on the intake side only. The new 3.6 liter H6 engine is connected to a substantially revised 5 speed automatic transmission that features an all-new torque lock up converter and a new transmission control unit that deliver faster shifts and quicker reaction time. The new transmission delivers smoother shifts with less lag time and weighs less than the previous system, for a total weight reduction of 9.7 lbs. for the new drivetrain. The transmission drives through the Subaru Symmetrical All Wheel Drive system. Enhancing the AWD system are standard Variable Torque Distribution VTD, standard Vehicle Dynamics Control VDC and four wheel traction control system TCS. IMPROVED ACCESS AND COMFORT The design of the award winning Tribeca interior is maintained, but third row seating access has been enhanced. Also new for 2008 is a re calibrated rear suspension with new bushings to improve ride comfort. New for 2008, the second row seat now features a tilt and slide control on both the drivers and passengers side and a new assist spring that reduces the effort needed to slide the second row seat. Also new are molded assist grab handles on the lower C pillar to ease step in to the third row. AWARD WINNING INTERIOR BLENDS DESIGN AND COMFORT The sophisticated twin cockpit design features a flowing, sculpted dash and center console design. Aluminum look trim highlights the sculpted shapes of the dashboard. Electroluminescent dials and subtle ambient interior lighting provide a sophisticated touch, illuminating the front and rear footwells, the center console and cup holders. The center console is dominated by an information center that groups the readouts for the audio system, clock, fuel economy and outside temperature. A seven inch touch screen information center is standard with the navigation system. The easy to use audio and climate control system controls are located just below the screen. FLEXIBLE 5 OR 7 PASSENGER CAPABILITY The Tribeca is available in a variety of 5 and 7 passenger configurations. The 7 passenger model is equipped with a standard with a 50 50 split fold down third row seat that features integral headrests and carpeted back surface. For added passenger comfort, the 7 passenger model also features an auxiliary rear cabin air conditioner with fan speed control in the second row. The 7 passenger Tribeca models can be equipped with an available rear seat DVD entertainment system. SAFETY The new 2008 Tribeca was designed with achieving the highest ratings in the auto industry. The previous generation B9 Tribeca achieved top honors in the U.S. Department of Transportations National Highway Traffic Safety Administration NHTSA New Car Assessment Program NCAP crash tests with 5 stars in both the frontal and side-impact crash tests for both the driver and passenger seating positions. These results are in addition to the 4-star rating in the NHTSA tests for rollover resistance. No SUV to date has earned 5 stars in the rollover test. The Subaru Tribeca features a Ring Shaped Reinforcement Frame Structure, occupant sensing, dual stage driver and passenger airbags, seat mounted side impact air bags, and standard curtain side air bags front and second rows. A Roll Sensor system that detects a potential vehicle rollover and deploys the standard side curtain airbags is also standard. In addition, the Tribeca features Brake Assist on its standard ABS brake system, Vehicle Dynamics Control and four wheel traction control. Brake Assist analyzes the force and stroke on the brake pedal and increases hydraulic boost to provide enhanced emergency braking, also activating the ABS system early if needed.

Subaru today unveiled the all-new Subaru Impreza 2.5i and its performance icon cousin, the Impreza WRX at the New York International Auto Show. With new, more sophisticated styling and two new body styles, a 4 door sedan and a 5-door model, the Impreza 2.5i and Impreza WRX breathe new life into the compact performance market. The new Impreza models take a giant leap forward in terms of comfort and utility, while delivering the handling, performance and Subaru Symmetrical AWD that made the original Impreza such a success. Also new for 2008, is the availability of Vehicle Dynamics Control VDC on both the Impreza 2.5i and Impreza WRX. In 2001, Subaru changed the face of the performance market with the introduction of the original WRX, a car that could deliver turbocharged, rally-bred performance in any driving condition. The all new 2008 Subaru Impreza WRX follows that lead with an all-new breed of AWD performance car. The 2008 Subaru Impreza WRX now rides on a 3.7 inch longer wheelbase 103.1 inches that improves ride, interior space and utility. The new WRX is powered by a 2.5 liter flat four Boxer engine delivering 224 horsepower and 226 Lb. ft. of torque and is 50 lbs. lighter than its predecessor. The engine has been modified to produce more torque at lower rpm. With its broader and richer torque curve, the 2008 WRX delivers a smooth stream of power, improving drivability and fuel efficiency. ADVANCED ENGINEERING The new Impreza chassis has improved rigidity and ride comfort with the addition of high tension steel at key structural points. The new design results in a lower overall weight for the body while the longer wheelbase allows for improved ride dynamics as well as increasing interior room and lowering levels of Noise Vibration and Harshness NVH. To further improve handling, the engine is now placed slightly lower in the chassis, lowering the Imprezas center of gravity. In addition, the new chassis improves crash worthiness and provides crisper handling and a stiffer platform. While the new Impreza WRX remains a driver's car, the new WRX represents a better combination of capabilities, maximizing performance, comfort and delivering an advantage over the competition. In conjunction with the new chassis, the Subaru Impreza and WRX feature an all new double wishbone rear suspension. The suspension allows for less intrusion into the cargo area, providing a wider and deeper luggage compartment. The new suspension also delivers improved ride refinement, decreased road noise, and a quieter cabin. MODERN EXTERIOR DESIGN The all-new 2008 Impreza and Impreza WRX are now available in two new body styles, a 4 door and a 5 door. The new 5 door design is clean and elegant, with a sweeping single curve roofline that flows into an aerodynamic rear spoiler. An all new frontal design features the new spread wing logo design at the top of the widened grille. The new grille creates a connection to the Subaru aircraft heritage and places a focus on the Subaru star cluster logo. Both exterior designs focus on detail touches such as the new clear rear lenses on the 5-door, distinctive curved fog lamps and an inward sweeping chrome embellishment that flows the grille design into the bumper. An aggressive lower spoiler adds to the sporting character of the design. The 5 door features a distinctive character line that sweeps upward at the rear, giving the car an agile look. The short rear overhang, new clear rear taillamp lenses and a vertical chrome bar combine to integrate the side character line into tail. The 4 door Impreza and Impreza WRX are unique to the North American market. The new 4 door is 4.5 inches longer than the previous sedan and 6.5 inches longer than the new 5 door models. The extra space provides for a much larger trunk that can accommodate three Tour-size golf bags. The rear seats feature a 60 40 rear split folding mechanism that further enhances cargo capacity. On new 5 door Impreza models, the wide and flat load floor can accommodate two Tour-size golf bags with the rear seats in the upright position. The design of the 4 door models creates an improved road presence, with a wider and sharper front design giving way to a crisp side body crease. The rear of the 4 door Impreza is set apart by red lamp lenses and a chrome strip below the trunk line that visually widens the tail. On WRX models, a new available aero kit denotes the WRX rally car heritage. The 5 door WRX features a rear under body diffuser and single chrome exhaust pipe. The 4 door WRX features dual chrome exhaust tips and a rear trunk spoiler. RICH INTERIOR DESIGN The interior design of the 2008 Impreza places a new emphasis on comfort and space. The new sweeping twin cockpit embraces occupants and brushed aluminum look insets flow into the center stack. The center console shape adds to the airiness of the cockpit design, aided by the sculpted door panels and improved headroom. The door panels house molded recesses that can accommodate 24 oz. soft drink bottles, as well as loose items. Despite retaining the same exterior width as the previous generation Impreza, the new 2008 Impreza features an interior with two inches more front shoulder room than before.
