Courtesty wikepedia creative commons Binary option Last updated 2 days agoFrom Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia (Redirected from Digital options) Jump to: navigation, search In finance, a binary option is a type of option where the payoff is either some fixed amount of some asset or nothing at all. The two main types of binary options are the cash-or-nothing binary option and the asset-or-nothing binary option. The cash-or-nothing binary option pays some fixed amount of cash if the option expires in-the-money while the asset-or-nothing pays the value of the underlying security. Thus, the options are binary in nature because there are only two possible outcomes. They are also called all-or-nothing options, digital options (more common in forex/interest rate markets), and Fixed Return Options (FROs) (on the American Stock Exchange). Binary options are usually European-style options. For example, a purchase is made of a binary cash-or-nothing call option on XYZ Corp's stock struck at $100 with a binary payoff of $1000. Then, if at the future maturity date, the stock is trading at or above $100, $1000 is received. If its stock is trading below $100, nothing is received. In the popular Black-Scholes model, the value of a digital option can be expressed in terms of the cumulative normal distribution function. They were generally considered exotic instruments and there was no liquid market for trading these instruments between their issuance and expiration. They were often seen embedded in more complex option contracts. Since mid-2008 binary options web-sites called binary option trading platforms have been offering a simplified version of exchange-traded binary options. It is estimated that around 50 such platforms (including white label products) have been in operation as of January 2011, offering options on some 70 underlying assets. [edit] Exchange-traded binary optionsIn 2007, the Options Clearing Corporation proposed a rule change to allow binary options,[1] and the Securities and Exchange Commission approved listing cash-or-nothing binary options in 2008.[2] In May 2008, the American Stock Exchange (Amex) launched exchange-traded European cash-or-nothing binary options, and the Chicago Board Options Exchange (CBOE) followed in June 2008. The standardization of binary options allows them to be exchange-traded with continuous quotations. Amex offers binary options on some ETFs and a few highly liquid equities such as Citigroup and Google.[3] Amex calls binary options Fixed Return Options; calls are named Finish High and puts are named Finish Low. To reduce the threat of market manipulation of single stocks, Amex FROs use a settlement index defined as a volume-weighted average of trades on the expiration day.[4] The American Stock Exchange and Donato A. Montanaro submitted a patent application for exchange-listed binary options using a volume-weighted settlement index in 2005.[5] CBOE offers binary options on the S&P 500 (SPX) and the CBOE Volatility Index (VIX).[6] The tickers for these are BSZ[7] and BVZ,[8]

Courtesty wikepedia creative commons Day trading Last updated 5 days agoFrom Wikipedia, the free encyclopediaJump to: navigation, search This article is about the practice. For the occupation, see Day trader. This article needs additional citations for verification. Please help improve this article by adding citations to reliable sources. Please improve this article and discuss the issue on the talk page. (April 2012) Day trading refers to the practice of buying and selling financial instruments within the same trading day such that all positions are usually closed before the market close for the trading day. Traders who participate in day trading are called active traders or day traders. Not widely known, the correct definition of an intra-day means the move as measured from the previous close and not just relative to another price traded on the same day. Some of the more commonly day-traded financial instruments are stocks, stock options, currencies, and a host of futures contracts such as equity index futures, interest rate futures, and commodity futures. Day trading used to be an activity exclusive to financial firms and professional investors and speculators. Indeed, many day traders are bank or investment firm employees working as specialists in equity investment and fund management. However, with the advent of electronic trading and margin trading, day trading has become increasingly popular among at-home traders. Scalping is an intra-day technique that usually has the trader holding a position for a few minutes. Shaving is a method which allows the trader to jump ahead by a tenth of a cent, and a full round trip (a buy and a sell order) is often completed in under one second. Instead of bidding $10.20 per share, the scalper will jump the bid at $10.201, thus becoming the best bid and therefore the first in line to be able to purchase the stock. When the best Offer is $10.21, the shaver will again jump first in line and sell a tenth of a cent cheaper at $10.209 for a profit of 0.008 of a dollar. The profits add up when using 10,000 share lots each time and the combined earnings from Rebates (read below) for creating liquidity. A day trader is actively searching for potential trading setups (that is, any stock or other financial instruments that, in the judgment of the day trader, is in a tension state, ready to accelerate in price in either direction, that when traded well has a potential for a substantial profit). The number of trades one can make per day is almost unlimited, as are the profits and losses. The price of financial instruments can vary greatly within the same trading day (screen capture from Google Finance). Some day traders focus on very short-term trading within the trading day, in which a trade

Made Possible Through Generous Support from the Colcom Foundation Heads are up around town! The Pittsburgh Festival of Lights has generated so much excitement and interest from recent visitors to downtown Pittsburgh that it has been held over through July 8th. The Festival of Lights was made possible through the generous support of Pittsburgh-based Colcom Foundation. "The public reaction to Pittsburgh Festival of Lights has been incredibly positive. We are grateful that Colcom Foundation's support not only made this unique lighting display possible but has enabled its extension through the Fourth of July holiday," said Marguerite Jarrett Marks, director of Pittsburgh Celebrates Glass. During Pittsburgh Festival of Lights, downtown buildings are transformed into large scale works of arts, illuminated with rich colors, shapes and textures inspired by glass. Described by noted French lighting designer Lucette de Rugy as a "new expression of accessible art", it is all a part of Pittsburgh Celebrates Glass! a year-long collaboration of more than 70 cultural, civic and community partners designed to get local residents and tourists to experience the region's tremendous array of arts, events and activities.
