Thomas McNamara, otherwise known as Macky, has been making art for as long as he can remember, winning sculpting contests as early as junior high. At 11, his father got him a lead soldier-making kit. That’s when art was introduced and it quickly became evident that it was to be his purpose in life. At 11 he could melt the lead in a small pot, pour it into molds, and paint the little figurines. These soldiers were often given to his parent’s friends. The response was wild - the adults all loved them!! As a boy this was real validation for a child surrounded by intimidating, book-smart people. The art carried Macky into all the art classes at Cardinal Newman high school. His love for lead figure painting continued to grow during this period. It was the MTV generation, which Macky believes also had a huge impact on him . . . Since then, there have been many great moments, including showcasing Macky's art on two episodes of MTV's “PUNK'd”, which featured Ashlee Simpson and Hugh Jackman. Mutt™ has been the label for Macky's passion since 1997. Just recently, Mutt donated a customized 3-foot skateboard to the Rush foundation, a charity created to send kids to art school. It was a huge honor for Macky to be able to be a part of such a worthy charity. Courtesy of Thomas McNamara on MOLI****

Shakeela, a singer from Point Fortin, Trinidad and Tobago. About a year ago, a public art project called Galvanize commenced in several public venues across Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago. A small room catered for one of the artists tucked away in a small residence in Woodbrook. Alice Yard is Sean Leonard's gig and the genesis of creating it came soon after the Galvanize project. The architect wanted a dialogue in public conversations, be it with art, performance or music and the space seemed appropriate to hosts small gatherings to suit a particular subject. Since January 2007, Alice Yard had provided forty artists the opportunity to show their work to a public audience under the guidelines of a committee which includes himself, Christopher Cozier, Nicholas Laughlin and Sheldon Holder. Mr. Holder is responsible for the requisition of music performers, and he is also the lead singer of the local alternative rock band 12. Nevertheless, by attending these shows it will give a clearer description of the curatorial mandate. [Hangers; Adam Williams, a series of studies and sketches ] One newly addition to the yard is a small recessed gallery which can be encased by a large glass panel door. If this was visible at street level (basically as a showcase), it may have been one of the first in Trinidad and Tobago specifically designed for the purpose of exhibiting contemporary art. Currently, there is a student installation, the first in a series curated by the art committee. Mr. Leonard considers the entire project as on going process. Alice Yard has already expanded to a upper level courtyard and who knows how adventurous in the world of art, music theater or dance it may leap. Hangers; Adam Williams, a series of studies and sketches from art class at OCAD and UWI hung on a rack. At last Friday's music performer; Shakeela a singer from Point Fortin who mellowed the crowd with her smooth sultry vocals. read more at: www.thebookmann.blogspot****

Book a coffee class at Barista Basics Coffee Academy. We are an RTO and are TAFE Accedited. You will earn a TAFE certificate if you complete our Ultimate Barista Course (mk1 & mk2). We started Barista Basics in 2003. We now have amazing city barista class training rooms in Brisbane, Melbourne and Sydney. We have owned a coffee roaster, four cafes, created the world's first coffee art class, written Australia's first text book on the art of coffee making and consulted to some of Australia's largest coffee companies and franchise groups. We bring this knowledge to our coffee classes with you and we have backed up this up by gaining RTO status and TAFE Accreditation for our coffee courses. What we share with you will help you open and run a cafe, get a job as a barista and get the best out of your home espresso machine. We look forward to seeing you at one of our coffee classes soon. Parabola is discussing the possibility of offering regular art classes to local children within Kings Place, organised by the Visual Learning Foundation for Art Education. In 2006-07, during the construction of Kings Place, the Visual Learning Foundation conducted an after-school class with children from local schools. Among the activities were observational drawing, painting and sculpture. The scheme was funded by Parabola Land and The Dame Alice Owen Foundation. This short video explains the project and shows some of the work that emerged.

From *******www.gaycenter****/out/ Sarah Rice is a housemate on MTV’s Real World Brooklyn edition. She interned at the Center where she created and ran a free weekly art class called "Mirror, Mirror on the Wall...Self-Image Awareness through Art." The class was dedicated to the creativity of the human spirit and the process of healing by exploring the experiences and expectations of self-image in today's culture. After the class there was a reception where the students exhibited their work to friends, family and housemates. This video excerpt is from Out at the Center, a TV show and video podcast of the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Community Center of New York City. The show is made possible thanks to members of the Center and viewers like you. To find out more, join or donate go to: *******www.gaycenter****/support Distributed by Tubemogul.
