One Of The Most Gifted Women In Aviation... Ann Cooper This year's 2009 Women In Aviation convention is the gift that keeps on giving... as the number of intriguing stories and interviews that came out of the 2009 version continue to to impress one and all. However; like our interview with Amy Laboda, we don't mind playing favorites now and then... and like Amy, Ann Cooper ranks on that list. And as with Amy, ANN Editor-In-Chief, Jim Campbell had a chance to give her some of her earliest writing assignments and then step back and watch her build a following. WAI notes that Ann Cooper is both a commercial pilot and flight instructor. However, she is best known for promoting women in aviation as an aviation author. She has authored more than 700 magazine articles, acted as editor of aviation publications, and written several biographies. As editor of Aero Brush, the newsletter of the American Society of Aviation Artists, Cooper was instrumental in establishing an award for the “Best Art Depicting Women in Aviation.” Ann co-authored “Tuskegee Heroes” and “How to Draw Aircraft Like a Pro.” Her biographies on women aviation pioneers include “Rising Above it” with Edna Gardner Whyte, “On the Wing” with Jessie Woods, “Fire and Air, a Life on the Edge” with Patty Wagstaff, “How High She Flies” with Dorothy Swain Lewis, and “Weaving the Winds” with Emily Howell Warner. WAI Notes that Ann "is an author who has created works that inspire others – to dream, to fly, and to write." Aviation impacts the environment because aircraft engines emit noise, particulates, gases, contribute to climate change.Despite emission reductions from automobiles and more fuel-efficient and less polluting turbofan and turboprop engines, the rapid growth of air travel in recent years contributes to an increase in total pollution attributable to aviation. *******www.azclimatechange****

Aero-TV Conducts Its Annual Three Question Survey Of COPA Members (Part 2) Opinions! We love them... especially when they come from folks with something interesting to say! Aero-TV engaged in one of its favorite exercises during the 2009 Cirrus Owners and Pilots Association's Annual Convention -- that of surveying a dozen or so people at an event with three questions targeted toward the interest group that we're visiting. So, we came up with three good question for the thousands of folks who populated this year's convention... we started with a pretty good conversation starter, namely, what do you think of Cirrus Chairman Alan Klapmeier's announcement of his intent to buy out the SF50 Vision program? The second of the three questions has been the source of no small amount of controversy in the Cirrus community (as well as the rest of GA), namely... is the legal system dealing a fair hand to aviation? In the light of a recent judgement against Cirrus after a VFR pilot blundered into IFR conditions (an accident labeled as pilot error by the NTSB), one wonders how aviation can survive in the face of such ridiculous decisions. Our final question will address the complexities of GA in a down economy. We look forward to asking similar questions of the Columbia/Corvalis community in a few weeks at their annual meeting out West... The annual COPA Migration is obviously THE biggest event of the year for Cirrus pilots. In late June of 2009, hundreds of Cirrus aircraft flew in from all over the country (and beyond) to return to the "nest" to take advantage of an extensive and varied roster of activities for the pilots AND their families. Migration events include a number of unique and highly-anticipated evening social events, numerous seminars and presentations, and an extensive trade exhibition. The Cirrus Owners and Pilots Association (COPA) is a not-for profit membership organization established to educate, promote the safety of and support the owners and pilots of certified aircraft manufactured by Cirrus Design Corporation, encourage ownership of these aircraft and provide social activities for its members. Additionally, COPA will promote goodwill towards the general aviation community. Founded in 2001, with over 2800 members worldwide, COPA is a volunteer-run organization completely independent of Cirrus Design Corp. Open to all interested individuals. Dues are $65 per year, which includes a subscription to Cirrus Pilot magazine, access to the COPA members website and forums, and eligibility to attend other COPA events and activities (additional fees apply to some activities). Particularly notable are the online forums run by COPA.
