Europe is a Swedish rock band formed in Upplands Väsby, by vocalist Joey Tempest, guitarist John Norum, bass guitarist Peter Olsson, and drummer Tony Reno. They got a major breakthrough in Sweden in 1982 by winning the televised competition "Rock-SM" (Swedish Rock Championships).
Europe rose to international fame in the 1980s with their third album, 1986's The Final Countdown, which sold over three million copies in the United States and 15 million worldwide (included album and single). Europe has sold over 23 million records worldwide.
"Give Me the Night" is a song recorded by American jazz musician George Benson, which he released from his 1980 studio album of the same title. It was written and composed by Heatwave's keyboard player Rod Temperton and produced by Quincy Jones. Patti Austin provides the backing and scat vocals that are heard throughout, and one of Benson's fellow jazz guitarists, Lee Ritenour, also performs on the selection.
"Give Me the Night" was one of the last disco singles to become a major success, with the steady decline of the genre in the early 1980s.
The song was a commercial success, and was Benson's first single to hit number one on the US Billboard Soul Singles chart. It also peaked at number four on the US Billboard Hot 100 chart, making it his most successful pop entry. It also peaked at number two on the Billboard Hot Disco Singles chart.
Journey--Congrats on the induction into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame!!
Like many others that deserved induction long before they actually were (like Rush & Yes)...better late than never, and it was good to see Steve Perry there; wished he would've performed though.
"Girl Can't Help It" is from their 1986 album Raised on Radio.
Props to Randy Jackson for his contribution on this album as well.
