You’re watching multisource global video news analysis from Newsy BY MARC STEIDLER The conference carousel continues Friday as West Virginia announces it will join the Big 12. ESPN college football analyst Robert Smith says the move could spell the end of football in the Big East. “Well, not a big surprise. Probably a death knell, a final nail in the coffin for the Big East, at least in its current form. We knew that it had been changing dramatically, but you’re talking about Rutgers, UConn, and Louisville left.” With the Mountaineers leaving for a conference where there are no mountains, just five football playing schools remain in the Big East. But the New York Times’ Pete Thamel says there’s still hope for the conference. “If the Big East had lost both West Virginia and Louisville, it could have been a mortal blow. Instead, the league is now working to fill its proposed 12-team football model with enough quality programs to retain its automatic qualifier status in the Bowl Championship Series.” Potential targets for Big East dart-throwers include Central Florida, Houston, Boise State, Southern Methodist, Air Force and Brigham Young. Feeling dizzy? Join the club, says a writer for the Wall Street Journal. “The inner machinations of college sports are divined through some kind of arcane calculus and blood magic – safe to say, no one in the public really knows why anything is the way it is.” A writer for SB Nation agrees - and he thinks student athletes will feel the consequences. “Do you run track for WVU? Play golf? Do you love buses? I hope so, because you’ll be on one for a week on your way to away games in Ames, Lubbock and Norman.” Some clarity on the future of the Big East could come as early as Tuesday, when the conference holds its annual presidents meeting. gamblerstelevision**** I really like a play here from College Football and it involves the winner from the Big 12 Conference this year in college football. The Oklahoma Sooners are loaded on both sides of the ball. Sam Bradford is an outstanding quarterback. He is coming off a freshman best 36 touchdown passes as the team ranked 5th in the nation in scoring averaging over 42 points per game. He has seniors to throw to in Juaquin Iglesias and Manuel Johnson. Their running game is solid with DeMarco Murray and Chris Brown. All 5 starters return on the offensive line for the Sooners. Auston English returns to the D line with his league leading 9 ½ sacks last season. The secondary has two capable seniors in Nic Harris and Lendy Holmes leading the unit. This Sooner team is going to be pretty darn good this season. They host Kansas, Texas Tech and Nebraska with Texas being a neutral site game. Texas returns only 6 starters on defense and gave up tons of yards through the air last season. Road games in conference are all winnable against Baylor, Oklahoma St, Kansas St and Texas A&M. All lower tier conference teams. No Missouri and Chase Daniels on the regular season schedule. Play on the Oklahoma Sooners to win the Big 12 Conference at +150. Tony T from *******www.GamblersTelevision**** selects his 2008 NCAA College Football Big 12 South Conference winner. Tony T here with our “Rockstar” quick hitter from College Football. A few days back I gave you Oklahoma to win the Big 12 Conference Title at +150. Well low and behold I found a prop bet out there where you can bet on the Big 12 South and North Champion. Let me tell you right now the Oklahoma Sooners are the rock solid nuts to win the Big 12 South at +100. In the South are Texas, Oklahoma St, Baylor, Texas A&M and Texas Tech. Oklahoma is simply loaded on both sides of the ball. All 5 offensive linemen are back from a team that averaged over 42 points per game. Sam Bradford is coming off a 36 TD performance last season as a freshman. The Sooners are stocked with solid receiving corps and running backs and a good defense. The schedule is very favorable for the Sooners in 2008. Texas returns only 6 starters on defense and defensively had troubles stopping the pass. Oklahoma is the absolute nuts to win the Big 12 South at +100. Play on the Oklahoma Sooners to win the Big 12 South Conference at +100. Hello College Football fans this is Dana Ward with Gamblers Televisions college football report. Oklahoma football fans have plenty to be excited about in the 2008 College Football season. Quarterback Sam Bradford is coming off a record setting 36 touchdown passing performance in 2007 as a freshman. Oklahoma returns all 5 offensive linemen from a year ago that ranked 5th in the nation in sacks allowed and did an outstanding job in run blocking. Playmaking wide receiver Juaquin Iglesias returns for Oklahoma, as does their star running back DeMarco Murray and his 6 yards per gain from scrimmage last season. On defense the Sooners return 3 down lineman from a year ago that was one of College Football’s best last season. This team is a legitimate National Title contender but their secondary will be tested as the Big 12 Conference features the best quarterbacks in the nation as 11 starting quarterbacks return in 2008. In the Sooners spring game last Saturday Sam Bradford passed for 191 yards and a touchdown. Oklahoma’s revamped secondary looked impressive picking off 3 passes and showed great speed in coverage. Oklahoma will be tested in their non-conference schedule as on September 6th they host Cincinnati. Oddsmakers have posted Oklahoma as a 20-1 favorite to win the BCS National Championship Game. Transcript by Newsy**** BY DAN CORNFIELD You're watching multisource sports video news analysis from Newsy. What in the world is going on in The Little Apple? Frank Martin’s Kansas State Wildcats came into the season ranked number 3 team in the country. Now reeling at mid-season, the once Big 12 favorites have lost marquee sophomore Wally Judge, who quit the team. He’s the second player to pack his bags in January. The Kansas City Star’s Kellis Robinet caught Martin after practice. “Wally quit the team today. He’s not happy. I kinda saw it coming because of some of his emotional situations. He just has not been enjoying it. He told me today that he thinks it is time for a change.” Besides the two players who quit, two of the team’s starters were suspended for 3 games earlier this season. CBS Sports’ Matt Norlander says, this could be lights out on a promising season. “(Wally) Judge leaving the team comes just more than two weeks after Freddy Asprilla chose to pack his bags. It's chaos in the Little Apple of Manhattan, Ks., and while those remaining on the team are no doubt trying to fight through this and make a run, surely many of them are thinking, in the back of their minds, how quickly they need this nightmare season to end.” K-State finished last season in the Elite 8, and entered this season with high expectations. Instead their record is 14-8, and just 2-5 in the Big 12. Frank Martin vented after a recent loss to Colorado, shown on K-State Collegian’s YouTube Channel. “We got too much drama on our basketball team. It’s hard to move forward when your constantly, you know, dealing with guys that are in and out, in and out, in and out. We’re not very disciplined.” The Topeka Democrat Examiner’s Wayne Hodges says, the drama isn’t coming from the players, it’s coming from Martin -- who just got a fat contract and whose tirades have become Sportcenter fodder. “Coach, (Wally) Judge is not happy because you’re not happy. See, with big money comes heightened expectations and immense pressure to win, and win big. Cursing out players and/or threatening to retract scholarships is only cute when you’re victorious. Not so when you’re getting your ass kicked on a daily basis.” Regardless of who’s unhappy or why, the Manhattan Mercury’s Cole Manbeck spoke with Wildcat Curtis Kelly, who compares the teams season -- to an odyssey. "We've been through a tough storm," the senior forward said. “In a storm, anybody that's still on the boat — surviving on the boat has got to be strong. All the people that dove off weren't strong enough." So who do you think is rocking the boat in Manhattan? The coach? The players? Or was it just not sea-worthy in the first place?
