Porsche is incorrectly pronounced "PORSH" as a one syllable word. [21] (IPA: /ˈpɔrʃə/). (/pɔrˈʃʌ/). This is common because French and English have many words with silent 'e's. The correct pronunciation is "PORSH-eh", as native German words do not have silent e. Porsche SE or Porsche (German, pronounced [ˈpɔɹʃə]) is a German manufacturer of luxury automobiles, which is majority-owned by the Porsche and Piëch families. Porsche SE holds two chief assets, the first of which is Dr. Ing. h.c. F. Porsche AG, often shortened to Porsche AG, manufacturer of the Porsche automobile line. The second asset is a majority stake in Volkswagen AG. The company is headquartered in Zuffenhausen, a city district of Stuttgart, Baden-Württemberg. It was founded in 1930 by Ferdinand Porsche, an Austro-Hungarian engineer born in Maffersdorf, Austria-Hungary (today Vratislavice, Czech Republic). Porsche is also known for designing the first Volkswagen, but Béla Barényi is credited with having conceived the basic design five years earlier. The company currently produces 911 (997), Boxster and Cayman sports cars and Cayenne sport utility vehicles. In a May 2006 survey, Porsche was awarded the title of the most prestigious automobile brand by Luxury Institute, New York; it questioned more than 500 households with a gross annual income of at least US $200,000 and a net worth of at least US $720,000.[1] The current Porsche lineup includes sports cars from the Boxster roadster to their most famous product, the 911. The Cayman is a hard top car similar to the Boxster in a slightly higher price range. The Cayenne is Porsche's mid-size luxury SUV. The Carrera GT was phased out in May 2006. Future plans include a high performance luxury saloon/sedan, the Panamera. Porsche was awarded the 2006 J.D. Power and Associates award for the highest-ranked nameplate in its Initial Quality Study (IQS) of automobile brands. As a company, Porsche is known for weathering changing market conditions with great financial stability, while retaining most production in Germany during an age when most other German car manufacturers have moved at least parts of their production to Eastern Europe or overseas.[citation needed] The headquarters and main factory are still in Stuttgart-Zuffenhausen, but the Cayenne (and formerly the Carrera GT) is manufactured in Leipzig, Germany, parts[3] for the SUV are assembled also in Bratislava, Slovakia. Most Boxster and Cayman production is outsourced to Valmet Automotive in Finland until 2012[4]. The company has been highly successful in recent times, and indeed claims to have the highest profit per unit sold of any car company in the world. Porsche has for many years offered consultancy services to various other car manufacturers. Audi, Studebaker, SEAT, Daewoo, Subaru and Yugo have consulted Porsche on engineering for their cars or engines. The Lada Samara[6] was partly developed by Porsche in 1984. Porsche also helped Harley-Davidson design their new Evolution water cooled engine that is used in their V-Rod motorcycle, as Porsche had previous experince switching from air-cooling to water cooling. In racing, Porsche's main rival has traditionally been Ferrari,[citation needed] though their production vehicles appeal to quite different personalities, if similar demographics. The rivalry is therefore primarily because of both companies' storied racing heritage and the fact that some of their vehicles are of comparable performance. Porsche has a reputation for offering equal or higher performing cars than the more expensive Ferrari models, while overall Ferrari sells far fewer cars at much higher prices (for example, there are no Ferraris under US $100,000, while several Porsches are priced below that figure). In the daily-driver marketplace, Porsche's traditional rivals are its fellow German automakers Mercedes-Benz, Audi, and BMW (the Boxster competes directly with the BMW Z4 and the Mercedes-Benz SLK, for instance), as well as Lotus, Jaguar, Maserati and the Chevrolet Corvette, while high-end Porsche models compete against firms such as Ferrari, Lamborghini, Bugatti and Pagani.Porsche has been successful in many branches of auto racing, scoring a total of more than 28,000 victories. Porsche is currently the world's largest race car manufacturer. In 2006, Porsche built 195 race cars for various international motor sports events. In 2007, Porsche is expected to construct no fewer than 275 dedicated race cars (7 RS Spyder LMP2 prototypes, 37 GT2 spec 911 GT3-RSRs, and 231 911 GT3 Cup vehicles)

Katie Caldesi says: “This is great served as an appetiser or with drinks. Endives, also known as chicory, has boat-shaped leaves that are easy to pick up and provide the perfect vessel for the cheese and nuts. The sweetness of the honey matches perfectly with the bitterness of the endive. “I’m a bit of a black pepper nut so I like this with a twist of pepper to finish but having travelled a great deal in Italy recently they tend to leave it out of delicate salads like this; but I will leave it up to you to make the choice.” Serves 4 Ingredients: 2 endives 100g Gorgonzola Dolcelatte 30g Pinenuts 1 ½ tbsp good quality runny honey 1 ½ tbsp olive oil Method: Cut the end of both the endives and gently break off all the leaves, one by one, arranging them on a serving dish so that they resemble little boats in which to carry the ingredients. Crumble over the Gorgonzola Dolcelatte making sure each leaf gets an equal helping. Take your honey and, raising the spoon high over the salad, drizzle over the salad creating a lovely cobweb effect over the leaves. Then pour over the olive oil in a similar way. Finally, toast the pinenuts lightly in a saucepan and when done scatter over the endives. Serve with a chilled glass of Gabbiano Pinot Grigio IGT Delle Venezie Gabbiano Pinot Grigio is available in branches of Asda and Sainsbury’s priced from £6.49

Three decades ago His Majesty the King initiated an ongoing project to utilize the natural resources in the plateaus, the country’s source of the head waters of the rivers and water ways of the kingdom. This area is also home to the indigenous hill tribe Thais. The Royal Support Project is a result of His Majesty’s visionary goal to reduce and eventually eradicate the regions reliance on opium production and the devastating ‘slash and burn’ agricultural practice. The ultimate goal of this project is to cherish, preserve and protect their ecological treasures. From its conception the Royal Project in this region has enabled the regeneration of the land from damage caused by many years of opium growing to a protected vibrant forest preserve and a burgeoning source of abundant agricultural wealth. The populus has benefited from the improved living conditions which have allowed them to establish permanent habitations without to resort to continuous migration as they did in the past. Among the Support Foundation’s many successes has been the elimination of endemic narcotics use by the local populous for which the Foundation received the Magsaysay award for International Understandings in the year 2531. The Royal Support Foundation is carrying out researches on a new branch of highland agriculture to develop growing imported cold climate plants in Thailand which will help to improve the economy of the country. The Royal Support Foundation therefore is not only assisting the highland populous but also the whole country and the rest of the world.

Painting is another branch of art in which His Majesty has shown interest in since a very young age. He learned to draw and paint by himself. He began to paint seriously around the year 2502 after ascending to the throne. The paintings were done during his spare time from royal duties and they are mostly of Her Majesty the Queen and the royal children. During the bicentennial celebration the Fine Arts department was given royal permission to hold an exhibition of His Majesty’s paintings at the National Museum. Although His Majesty was occupied with royal duties and devoted most of his time to solving the problems that his subjects were facing, he was still able to provide forty-seven paintings for exhibition.

Former US Senator J. Bennett Johnston said on 25th of March that the normalization of relations between Iran and the United States is in the interest of both countries, and would act as a “magic elixir” for the region. “But just think of what it would mean first to the United States if we had a friendly and normal relationship with Iran. It would be … the key to peace in the Middle East. Israel, who feels terribly threatened by Iran, would be free of that burden. Our relationship with Iraq would be so much better, Afghanistan, the whole region would be much more secure, much more peaceful that it is now. It would be the magic elixir for the Middle East.” The former senator was speaking at a policy symposium with the theme of “The Obama Administration and US-Iran Relations” on Capitol Hill in Washington held as part of a Nowruz reception sponsored by the American-Iranian Council [AIC]. The Capitol Hill Nowruz reception came on the heels of US President Barack Obama’s 20 March unprecedented video message on the occasion of the Iranian New Year, addressed to the people and leaders of “the Islamic Republic”, in which he offered a “new beginning” in diplomatic engagement between the two countries. However, Iran’s supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, in a swift response to Obama’s message, said his government would judge the U.S. by actions and not words, but also said: “If you change, we will also change our behavior.” “It seems to me that this administration under President Obama has done exactly the right thing, has made entreaties based upon respect.” He added that the new US approach should not insist on demanding prior commitments from the Iranians. Another speaker at this symposium, Dr. Fatemeh Haghighatjoo, former Majlis [parliament] deputy and member of Iran’s reform movement, said that a halt of uranium enrichment should not be a pre-condition for talks, and that a full cessation of enrichment should be still be the goal of the negotiations. Haghighatjoo, who resigned from the Majlis in 2004 due to lack of progress in the reform movement, disagreed with popular assessments that negotiations between the US and Iran will be more difficult if current president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, and his hard-line faction win June presidential elections. She argued that on the contrary, a win by the reformist camp may lead Iran’s hardliners to unite and scuttle any renewed Iran-US dialogue. ”The present [Iranian] administration has the ability to control hardliners, who oppose any talks with the US. The conservatives would gain credibility through this, which would lead other branches of government to support the idea of negotiation… If President Ahmadinejad would not be reelected and by chance, a reformist candidate such as former Prime Minister Mr. Mousavi or former Speaker of Parliament Mehdi Karoubi [are elected], the chances of starting comprehensive negotiations would be slim.” However, Professor Hooshang Amirahmadi, President of the AIC, and an advocate of a renewed dialogue between the U.S. and Iran, disagreed with Haghighatjoo’s call for no preconditions to talks, and said he has changed his previous position recently and now believes that Iran should freeze uranium enrichment for a temporary period in order to jumpstart the negotiations. Roger Cohen, syndicated New York Times columnist who recently returned from a three-week visit to Iran, added during this symposium that a temporary freeze on uranium enrichment as a pre-condition is irrelevant because Iran can always restart its enrichment program, and the goal should rather be to ensure uranium is not enriched to weapons-grade levels. ”I do think it’s meaningless, a meaningless kind of obstacle, because you can suspend enrichment and you can start it again two months later. And the more important thing is to try to bind Iran into a framework where we assure that the enriched fuel, low enriched fuel at this point, is not being devoted [to weapons-grade uranium].”
