This slideshow is dedicated to our son Connor, who is autistic. We first suspected a problem at 16-18 months, but didn't push for therapuetic intervention until age 2. At 30 months, we enrolled him into a private ABA school, and supplemented with private tutoring and speech. He then entered the local school district's special needs preschool. Connor is now in a private ABA program. He goes to school 5 days a week (5 hours a day). We still supplement with private therapy. We've tried the gluten/caseine-free diet without success. Connor turned 3 in May 2008 and, despite some noticeable improvement, he is essentially still nonverbal. Fortunately, he is a happy, silly little boy. He's our angel. Some angels just need help to fly.

Missing Pieces is a beautiful song sung by Mark Leland. Written by Mark Leland and Tim Calhoun, a father of a boy with autism. This song was put into American Sign Language, performed by Barrie Silberberg. Barrie's son put this video together. He was diagnosed with autism at age 6 1/2. There are photos of children diagnosed with autism on this video. All of these children have improved drastically, due to the GFCF diet. Barrie's book The Autism and ADHD Diet: A Step-by-Step Guide to Hope and Healing by Living Gluten Free and Casein Free (GFCF) and Other Interventions, 2008, will be published by Sourcebooks, Inc. and in book stores April 2009 Check out Barrie's web site at www.puttingyourkidsfirst****
