April 2008 World Report Segment In one of his first official acts as President of the Church, Thomas S. Monson dedicated the Rexburg Idaho Temple on February 10, 2008. In the South Pacific kingdom of Tonga, the temple in Nuku'Alofa has reopened after a complete renovation. This temple in Tonga serves 41,000 Latter-day Saints throughout the islands of the Pacific. And in Central America, the First Presidency has announced the construction of a new temple in San Salvador, El Salvador. There are currently two operating temples in Central America. The temple overlooks the campus of Brigham Young University--Idaho, and with its brilliant finish of white quartz, it can be seen for miles on Rexburg Hill. On the day of its dedication, a cornerstone ceremony was led by President Monson, who was joined by others who represent some 47,000 Latter-day Saints in the surrounding area. The Rexburg Idaho Temple is the 125th temple built by the Church worldwide. For more information, visit 2008 Intellectual Reserve, Inc. All rights reserved.

April 2008 World Report Segment On February 25th, 2008, the Church announced the establishment of a new imprint for publishing works that relate to the origin and growth of the Church. The first project by the Church Historian's Press is The Joseph Smith Papers. This comprehensive series of journals, letters, legal documents, and business papers chronicles the life of Joseph Smith. When finished, this project will include more than 30 volumes. The first three volumes are scheduled for publication later this year and will include Joseph Smith's early journals. The project has gained the endorsement of the National Historical Publications and Records Commission, a division of the National Archives. This provides an important approval for scholars who wish to independently evaluate the history of the Church. In time, the published volumes are expected to be made available in their entirety through the Web site 2008 Intellectual Reserve, Inc. All rights reserved.
