DadLabs Ep 343 Daditude -- Is circumcision one of the topics you would never discuss with your sweet mum? Not if you're Owen! And not if your mum is an experienced pediatrician. Owen and his mum have a cocktail and talk foreskins, yay or nay.
The decision whether or not to circumcise infant boys is one that is often left to the dad. How will you decide? In this episode, we hear from a representative of Intact America, a group opposed to male circumcision. DadLabs ep 497 is brought to you by BabyBjorn. Distributed by Tubemogul.
In seeking information on why most American families decide to circumcise newborn boys, we turned to our favorite pediatrician and "Baby 411" author Ari Brown to provide some insight. The great debate comes to a head. DadLabs ep 502 is brought to you by BabyBjorn. Distributed by Tubemogul.

CIRCUMCISED! Is the autobiographical story of a Jewish kid raised in the former Soviet Republic of Azerbaijan, a primarily Muslim country, who emigrates to Israel. In true Israeli fashion, his welcome includes a mandatory circumcision – at the age of 16! Oy vey and OUCH! The pilot episode reveals Gleb Kaminer’s transformation into all of the characters that pervade this Jewish nightmare: the Mohel, a loyal circumcision specialist; Dr. Rubenstein, a jaded and eccentric surgeon; Gleb’s unenthusiastic Dad; an Angry Hospital Worker; a Perky Female Nurse and numerous hospital patients. CIRCUMCISED! a.k.a. A SLICE OF LIFE will make you laugh, cry, cringe, and cheer, possibly all at once...
The doctor explains as he is doing the infant circumcision.
The Plastibell Circumcision Device is a clear plastic ring with handle designed for male neonatal circumcision that has a deep groove running circumferentially. The adhesions between glans and foreskin are divided with a probe. Then the foreskin is cut longitudinally to allow it to be retracted and the glans (the head of penis) to be exposed.
The Plastibell comes in 6 sizes. The appropriate one is chosen and applied to the head. The ring is then covered over by the foreskin. A ligature is tied firmly around the foreskin, crushing the skin against the groove in the Plastibell. Then the excess skin protruding beyond the ring is trimmed off. Finally, the handle is broken off at the end of the procedure.
The entire procedure takes five to ten minutes, depending on the experience and skill of the surgeon. The ring falls off in 3 to 7 days leaving a circumferential wound that will heal over the following week. Typically, the glans will appear red or yellow until it has cornified.
At least 50% of American non-therapeutic infant circumcisions since 1980 have been performed with a Plastibell.
