Nearly every activity leaves behind some kind of waste in the environment. Households create ordinary garbage. Cars, trucks, and buses emit exhaust gases while in operation. Industrial and manufacturing processes create solid and hazardous waste. Some wastes contain chemicals that are hazardous to people and the environment. Once these hazardous chemicals are present in the environment, people can become exposed to them. Exposure occurs when people have contact with a chemical, either directly or through another substance contaminated with a chemical. The place where the chemical originates is called the source. Chemicals can enter the environment from many different sources such as landfills, incinerators, tanks, drums, or factories. Human exposure to hazardous chemicals can occur at the source or the chemical could move to a place where people can come into contact with it. Chemicals can move through air, soil, and water. They can also be on plants or animals, and can get into the air we breathe, the food we eat and the water we drink. The different ways a person can come into contact with hazardous chemicals are called exposure pathways. There are three basic exposure pathways: inhalation, ingestion, and skin contact. Inhalation is breathing or inhaling into the lungs. Ingestion is taking something in by mouth. Skin contact occurs when something comes in direct contact with the skin. Ingestion can be a secondary exposure pathway after skin contact has occurred, if you put your hands in your mouth and transfer the chemical from your hands to your mouth. The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has developed informational summaries on selected chemicals to describe how people might be exposed to these chemicals and how exposure to them might affect their health. The summaries also explain what happens to the chemicals in the environment, who regulates them, and whom to contact for additional information.

A study conducted by researcher Zoran Sekerovic shows that sleeping habits in men are related to the levels of testosterone in their body. Men with a deficiency of this essential hormone very often suffer from restless sleep, which in turn has countless repercussions on energy levels and health in general. (Poor sleep can have a part in weight gain, depression, and mental decline.) People who don't get enough sleep also can sometimes gain unnecessary weight as a result. This doesn't happen always, but there are a number of studies that indicate poor sleeping habits can lead to obesity and weight management struggles. This also makes sense when we consider that poor sleeping habits can increase feelings of hunger, causing us to eat more. However, there are treatments for testosterone deficiency. Hormone Replacement Therapy clinics can offer men with a prescription injections and creams of supplementary testosterone, which Sekerovic concedes can help improve sleep. However, he advises caution. Testosterone Therapy should always be used with the advice and consent of a licensed physician, and only by a person who has been officially diagnosed with Low-T. The gallbladder is a 4-inch, pear-shaped organ located under your liver in the upper right part of your abdomen. It plays a part in digesting the food you eat. Its primary function is to store bile (a combination of fluids, fat and cholesterol) that helps break down fat from food in your intestine. The gallbladder transfers the bile into the small intestine through the bile ducts. From here, fat-soluble vitamins and nutrients get absorbed into the bloodstream. However, several types of conditions affect the gallbladder. These conditions include gallstones, cholecystitis (inflammation of the gallbladder), biliary colic, and dysfunctional gallbladder. Anyone can suffer from gallbladder problems. A few major risk factors include genetics, obesity and gender, with women being more prone to such problems than men. These problems can be a minor nuisance or develop into a major medical condition. Different types of gallbladder problems have different sets of symptoms. Some signs and symptoms of trouble include pain in the upper abdominal area, pain beneath the right shoulder blade or toward the back, pain usually after eating a meal high in fat content, chest pain, heartburn, indigestion, and excessive gas and bloating.

Some causes of lead poisoning are ingesting lead paint and eating or drinking from certain imported, improperly lead-glazed ceramics. Very high levels of lead in the blood may cause personality changes, headaches, loss of sensation, weakness, a metallic taste in the mouth, uncoordinated walking, digestive problems, and anemia. The diagnosis is based on symptoms and a blood test. Testing household water, ceramics, and paint for lead can help identify potential sources of lead poisoning. Treatment consists of stopping exposure to lead and removing accumulated lead from the body. Lead poisoning is far less common since paint containing lead pigment was banned (in 1978 in the United States) and lead was eliminated from automotive gasoline (in 1986 in the United States and by 2011 in all but 6 countries in the developing world). However, lead poisoning is still a major public health problem in cities on the East Coast of the United States as well as in other isolated cities, most notably, Flint, Michigan. Lead paint Lead poisoning is usually caused by direct ingestion (eating) of lead. This typically happens in

Your lawn is one of the first impressions people receive of your yard or even your house. However, if bugs infest your grass, the entire appearance of the yard can be compromised. The majority of garden pests native to our state eat the roots of the grass, causing your grass to turn brown and die or to have unexplainable yellow patches. How to Reduce the Risk of Colon Cancer|colorectal cancer information Colon (or colorectal) cancer is among the top five most frequent types of cancer in both women and men worldwide. About half the people who have colon cancer die from it. However, over 50 percent of colon cancer cases can be avoided by following basic prevention methods. There are many ways to reduce your risk of contracting colon cancer, including regular screening and consultations, quitting smoking, eating well-balanced diet, and getting regular physical activity. 1 Get a colonoscopy. Colonoscopy screenings typically begin when you turn 50 if you have no other colon cancer risk factors, such as relatives who have had colon cancer. If you have a family history of colorectal cancer or inflammatory bowel disease, your physician may advise you to have a colonoscopy before your 50th birthday.[2] Prepare for your colonoscopy screening. The colonoscopy allows doctors to remove any polyps that may be forming in your colon. Polyps take 10 to 15 years to grow and may turn into colorectal cancer. You may be required to fast and go through a colon cleansing. Getting a colonoscopy performed will take less than one day. 2 Get a Fecal Occult Blood Test (FOBT). FOBTs are tests that look for hidden blood in the stool which can be signs of polyp growth or cancer. FOBTs are much less invasive than colonoscopy and can be done once a year.[3] You may often have the option of sampling your stool at home and mailing it, in a container provided to you by your doctor, to a lab to be medically tested.

Women's hormones follow a very interesting pattern, depending on their age and the time of year, as well as other factors. This is very different from men, whose hormones generally vary over the long-term only. When a woman reaches the age of about 50, she experiences Menopause, which is when her hormonal cycle changes drastically in a very short time. Estrogen production will diminish. Women will start missing periods, and when a year has passed without a period, a woman can officially be considered to be in Menopause. Menopause can cause serious symptoms, such as: Changes in Sexual Desire and Function Sleeping Issues Hot Flashes Early symptoms of Osteoporosis and Osteopenia Emotional Health Decline Insomnia Joint Pain Headaches and Migraines Memory Problems Urinary Issues Hormone Replacement Therapy, especially Estrogen supplementation, can help women to lose weight, to eliminate hot flashes, reduce sleeping problems and fatigue, and promote emotional health. Healthy lifestyle choices, such as regular exercise and healthy eating, are also important, and the benefits of HRT are much less likely without them.
