Jessica Simpson just announced, she’s engaged to her boyfriend of five months, former NFL player Eric Johnson. Already, people are questioning the timing – given her equally famous ex Nick Lachey just announced his own engagement. So is it a battle of the exes? ABC News has details on the engagement – and Simpson’s surprising decision -- given her $100 million franchise. “Jessica is engaged. It has been announced. She surprised a lot of her fans just a couple of weeks after Nick Lachey announced he was engaged, Jessica has dropped the bombshell. She’s engaged. But even more surprising is the fact that she does not want her new chap Eric who doesn’t have a job at the moment, but she does not want him to sign a pre-nup because love conquers all.” Access Hollywood talked to Millionaire Matchmaker Patti Stanger who says the timing is a little too suspicious – this duo isn’t quite over their “newlyweds” days. “It was a little coincidental. I mean, you hit it on the nose. Like all of a sudden Jessica’s engaged right after had Nick announced it. Come on. This is like, they’re still sparring for each other.” But if that’s the case, Nick’s proving to be a better actor, than singer. E! Online says Lachey actually reacted pretty well given the circumstances. “A day after finding his own engagement suddenly upstaged by ex-wife Jessica Simpson’s, Nick Lachey is keeping things downright pleasant… "I wish her the very best," he said in a statement.” And Showbiz Tonight’s A.J Hammer suggests the two don’t seem to be aware of what the media’s buzzing about. “Personally, I really hope that this is just a pure coincidence that Jessica Simpson got engaged just two weeks after Nick Lachey did. Nick and Jessica don’t seem to think anything of the timing, both have wished each other well on their new engagments. But I got to tell you there are a whole lot of people who think there’s a whole lot more to this story and to me that would just be creepy.” Finally, a question Lachey’s fiancé Vanessa Manillo probably won’t be asking – let’s see the ring -- seems to be on everyone else’s mind. According to LALate news, Simpson’s ring is sparking more than just curious viewers. “After news hit that Jessica Simpson’s engagement ring carried a stunning ruby stone, consumers reportedly responded. Jessica Simpson’s engagement ring from Eric Johnson features a large set ruby in the center. Now retailers report a spike in sales of engagement rings with ruby stones." Now, it’s a rush to the alter. Reports say Simpson is planning a Christmas wedding – so when it comes to getting hitched she could well beat out Nick for that one.

BY CHANCE SEALES If you hate the name Justin Bieber – or even worse, Bieber Fever – you’ve been warned. The mop topped 16-year-old cleaned up at the American Music Awards—winning all four categories he was up for. ABC shows – Bieber wasn’t the only one excited. CHANG: “Usher admitted to crying after Justin Bieber beat him out for two awards, but they were tears of pride he said, ‘cause his protégé signed onto his label awhile back.” STEPHANOPOULOS: “Boy, that’s the definition of a win-win for Usher and Justin Bieber.” ROBERTS: “That’s right. If you can’t win, the guy that’s helping make you money—let him win!” The news was everywhere! Not that that’s a good thing. KTTV’s Dorothy Lucey seems a little embarrassed. LUCEY: “Steve, I’m very concerned about you. Do you…have a Bieber fever? Oh my gosh, I feel badly for you who say to me, ‘please, no more Justin Bieber stories,’ cause this morning we have about 10. Okay, so I’m just telling you right now.” EDWARDS: “Add me to the list, please.” LUCEY: “He’s the artist of the year! How did that happen? Anyway, he is.” A writer for Examiner**** has an idea of how he pulled off a win over Gaga, Eminem and Usher. Fast fingers. “Bieber did his fair share of tweeting out to his over 6,000,000 fans on Twitter, asking for them to vote for him. He also posted on his official Facebook page, ‘CLICK and VOTE - Last Chance. Thanks’… It worked!” So how’s Justin handling all the accolades? CNN asked the tough question…. and barely stops short of giving him their own award for awesomeness. BIEBER: “I like to stay calm and collect, but inside I’m like (pounds on chest)…I can’t believe what’s happening; it’s been an amazing night for me. I’m just going to go party and have and stuff.” HAMMER: “See, he’s remaining humble, but he’s still remaining a kid, which I really like.” Yep – just like a normal, humble kid. Speaking of kids – HLN looks at the plusses and minuses to the big awards night – even though Bieber’s a Bieby. MEADE: “Justin Bieber…Uh, ahhh!...is now the youngest person ever to win the artist of the year at the American Music Awards.” VAN DILLEN: “He better make his money now, cause when his voice changes (I wonder!). Yeah, you are (high voice) the one (low voice). MEADE: “Hahaha, not quite the appeal, huh?” Bieber also won best album, along with male and breakthrough artist of the year. So – do you think his career—and voice—are bound to crack?

Transcript by Newsy**** BY CHANCE SEALES You're watching multisource entertainment news analysis from Newsy Prepare yourselves. The end of days must be near. Regis Philbin -- daytime’s everlasting gabber– is saying goodbye. Here’s the announcement and Kelly’s response. PHILBIN: “I don’t want to alarm anybody, but I have to tell you this because it’s going to happen and the station needs to know and Gelman needs to know and we all need to know. This will be my last year on this show.” RIPA: “It is been a pleasure and a privilege and a dream come true and I wish I could do something to make you change your mind.” The titan of morning talk will turn 80 this year. But even so, HLN says – this was unexpected. “It was surprising. Co-host Kelly Ripa got choked up—as you can imagine—talking about what a dream come true it was to work with Regis. He simply said it was time, but he doesn’t know when his last day will be.” Reege joins the ranks of other aging celebs looking for a break -- or a pick up game of bridge? Here’s The View’s take. BEHAR: “Regis is retiring, Betty White I was reading is cutting back – she’s saying she feels…--but Hugh Hefner is picking out engagement rings. I mean, what does this say about older people? (More power to him!)” Alright, now that we’ve said 60 seconds of goodbyes – let’s get down to business. Who will replace Philbin? CNN questions – is it even possible? HAMMER: “Can the show go on? I love Kelly. Kelly’s fantastic—she’s terrific. But it’s always been his show. It’s called LIVE! With Regis and – of course Kathie Gifford was there for a number of years as well. Kelly just fit right in and she’s amazing. But the question is…who can they get to fill seat that will make people want to stick around and stay with the formula?” Meanwhile, NBC’s Kathie Lee – who spent 15 years in the chair next to Reege – dishes on what’s happening behind the scenes. GIFFORD: “I tell you what’s happening right at this very moment—about 50 guys are calling their agents right now saying, ‘I want that job!” (Cause that’s the show.) That’s the way it goes. And it will have a whole new life hopefully, but it will never be the same. There’s only one Reege.” Kathie Lee threw out Jeff Probst as a potential replacement. But the San Francisco Chronicle has a few others in mind, including…. “…Kelly Ripa's husband, Mark Consuelos, Neil Patrick Harris and Anderson Cooper have been regular fill-ins, over the years…” Finding a replacement is expected to take a several months. So do you think the show will go on? Or is LIVE! dead without the hardest working man in TV? Get more multisource video news analysis from Newsy

Transcript by Newsy**** BY CHANCE SEALES You're watching multisource entertainment video news analysis from Newsy. It makes Gossip Girl look like Lamb Chop. MTV’s new hit – ‘Skins’ – is rubbing parents the wrong way. It’s sex, drugs, drinking – and, did we mention sex? NBC has a first look. ROSSEN: “The actors here are real teenagers aged 15 to 19 – doing things like this (Teens making out), this (Teen boy grinding on girl, rubbing her chest), and this (Drunk girl slung over the shoulder of teen boy).” ACTOR: “Is she still breathing?” After Skins’ huge premiere – with more than 3 million viewers – the Parents Television Council took action – sending a formal complaint to Congress. MSNBC and HLN explain the big problem. ENTERTAINMENT WRITER: “Now there’s concern that an upcoming episode might violate child pornography laws—and that is because one of the actors who under the age of 18—he’s 17—you see his full backside. And that is something you’re just plain not allowed to do.” (MSNBC) LEGAL ANALYST: “There’s been conversations centered around – how close can we come, or have we come, to violating a federal statute – and you know, making sure that they’re sort of within the boundaries. Well, this is not a line that you want to even gets close to toeing.” (HLN) MTV is reportedly taming down future episodes. But probably not for parents or Congress. A TV Guide writer tells ABC – it’s for money. TV GUIDE WRITER: “If there’s any pressure that MTV is going to submit to, it would be from advertisers.” REPORTER: “So far, the Skins scandal has resulted in at least one advertiser, Taco Bell, pulling its commercials from future shows.” On the other side of the argument -- a CNN anchor mom-to-be – and a Fox panelist who says – vote with your remote. PHILLIPS: “Let’s be realistic here…you know, teens are dealing with sex, drugs, alcohol as young as 15…even younger. So, much of this is reality TV, even though it is actors.” (CNN) PANELIST: “It’s on a cable network. It airs at 10 o’clock at night. It’s not like this is geared toward children. I think if people don’t want to watch it, then they just won’t watch it. And I feel for people with teens out there, but maybe this is an opportunity that they can use to talk about these issues with their kids.” (FOX) Finally, many are asking – where – and WHO – are these kids’ parents? The Skins cast tells MTV – they’re fans. CRESENCIA-MILLS: “My parents are the ones who showed me the first two seasons of the UK, so I think they know what’s going to happen. (Actors all laugh)” FLAHERTY: “I actually watched part of the first season with my family too, so I mean, they’re excited for me and they think it’s an awesome show.” So do you think Skins is too sexy? Or is it – for better or worse – art imitating life? Get more multisource entertainment video news analysis from Newsy.

Transcript by Newsy**** BY CHRISTY LEWIS You're watching multisource entertainment video news analysis from Newsy. Too many margaritas? Or too many screaming fans? Singer Jimmy Buffett hit rock bottom at an overseas performance on Wednesday. Chicago’s WLS has the rundown... “Audience members saw the 64-year-old fall face first off the stage. The fall opened a gash in his head. Buffett's manager took the stage and urged fans to leave the auditorium. The singer was taken to Sydney’s St. Vincent’s Hospital. Wednesday night's concert was Buffett’s fifth and last in Sydney on his current tour.” TMZ has a fan’s explanations for the fall... An audience member who was close to the stage says it looked as if Buffett was about to jump off the stage to shake hands when he misjudged the jump and fell. And a reporter for Phoenix New Times says he appreciates the effort... “It's fitting, though, that he was perhaps just trying to give back to the fans when he took his fall. Now we know that Buffett would literally risk head and neck injury just to make some fan's day.” But as Mommyologist from the blog Babble says she doesn’t buy that explanation. “... chances are that he was either blinded by lights or lost his footing. As a loyal Parrothead of almost 20-years, I’ve been to at least 10 Jimmy Buffett shows, and have never once seen him jump off the stage.” Regardless of how he fell, The Stir worries this is a trend for singers like Buffett. “Wow. Who knew singing could be such a dangerous profession? Of course, Buffett certainly isn't the first singer to be injured while performing. It seems more and more singers are suffering similar fates on stage.” Buffett’s representative said he will be released from the hospital Thursday, but no word on whether he will perform at a concert scheduled for Saturday. So will he come back to the rock and roll shore from this dive off stage ...or will he lay low with a cheeseburger in paradise? Get more multisource entertainment video news analysis from Newsy.

Transcript by Newsy**** BY KRISTEN BRODY You're watching multisource entertainment video news analysis from Newsy. Bad boy, bad boy -- what’cha gonna do if they come for you? Well if you’re TV funnyman Charlie Sheen... you’ll just return to work as normal. Or do you? The “Two and a Half Men” star was rushed to an LA hospital Thursday after suffering “severe abdominal pains.” But TMZ isn’t fully buying the “hiatal hernia” story. Reps from TMZ say the night before Sheen’s hospital check-in he was playing host to porn stars, drugs, and alcohol during an intense 36 hour rager. TMZ spoke with one of the privileged party guests as she recounted the classy events of the evening. “He grabs it and just starts chugging, he chugs it in like 3 seconds. I’m like, he’s like ‘Don’t ever, don’t ever test me again.’ And every one's like ‘Don’t make him another drink’ and I’m like ‘I won’t I won’t this one’s for me if he doesn’t drink it.’” NBC pop culture correspondent Courtney Hazlett doesn’t see a need for Sheen to change his ways. “Charlie Sheen he still shows up for work, most of the time on time and so it’s not a situation that somebody at Two and a Half Men can say step in and say ‘Hey listen we need to have a serious conversation now.’ Cuz he’s their most successful actor, he’s the highest paid actor on television right now. No one is going to put a stop to this.” But Jane Velez Mitchell at HLN urges people around Sheen to make it stop -- make HIM stop. “You can’t get away with if forever if you’re an addict. Charlie Sheen has been to rehab almost four times, he almost O.D.ed in 1998. He is an addict that means he shouldn’t be using any mood altering substances or alcohol period..not even a single drop.” Fox News spoke with celebrities who had surprising words of support. Judy Greer, who’s appeared on “Two and a Half Men” alongside Sheen -- said... “I feel like I should be asking him advice because in the midst of it all, he still maintains so much success!” But true to form -- Sheen’s TV bro John Cryer seems to find humor in the situation. “But he just got back from, he was in Las Vegas at the.. apparently there’s a porn convention that they have every once in awhile and apparently he was hanging out with some porn star some reknowned who had won the 2008 ‘Best Anal’.” It’s hard to top that... According to E! Online Sheen is expected back to work as early as next Tuesday. Get more multisource entertainment video news analysis from Newsy.
