*******www.woodshedgallery**** Contemporary impressionist painter Bruce Wood explains the meaning of his art and why he makes it. His exhibition is at the Woodshed Gallery exhibition in Franklin MA. (MetroWest Boston) during April 2011. Wood is a member of the Cape Cod Art Association, The Wellesley Society of Artists, The Lyme Art Association, The Concord Art Association and the Franklin Art Association. More paintings can be seen online at *******www.BruceWoodArtist**** Bruce Wood is known as a contemporary American Impressionist painter and an avant-garde filmmaker. This exhibition features a new series of acrylic paintings of Massachusetts coastal scenes and oil monotype paintings based on flowers and landscapes. His work depicts traditional subjects, but the style of painting is a modern adaptation of early 20th Century Impressionism. His paintings have a strong sense of rhythm which is influenced by music. The surfaces are heavily painted in a loose and lyrical style, and a skillful interaction of colors creates a pleasant sensation in viewers. Bruce Wood explains, "I have a strong interest in film, and how the combination of sound and image can be quite powerful. Paintings, however, have no sound. So I rely on visual rhythm and color vibration to synthesize an audio-visual effect which is both soothing and energetic. This has been quite successful. Two women so far have told me that they used my paintings as focal points while giving birth." Bruce Wood is the son of acclaimed local artist Angelina Wood, but has had a career centered around his own galleries in Chicago and Michigan. Recently he moved back to Franklin and has assumed directorship of the Woodshed Gallery, which Angelina started in 1968. He received a BFA from Massachusetts College of Art and went on to get an MFA from The School of the Art Institute of Chicago. His fine art has been the subject of solo exhibitions at the Museum of Modern Art in Paris and the Institute of Contemporary Arts in London.

BY CHRISTINA HARTMAN You're watching multisource U.S. news analysis from Newsy. It’s been almost 40 years since the only presidential resignation in American history. Now -- the Richard Nixon presidential library’s Watergate exhibit has been re-opened to the public. It’s new -- but whether it’s improved depends on whom you ask. WPIX: “The once-ridiculed Watergate exhibit at the Richard Nixon library has been revamped. For decades the exhibit was a laughing stock because it left out information to make the former president look favorable. ... The new exhibit is said to be truthful and balanced.” The Nixon library was the only presidential library not under the direction of the National Archives. That is, until 2007. Before then - the exhibit was funded by Nixon loyalists - who called the scandal a “coup” by Nixon’s political rivals. (VIDEO FROM USA TODAY) LA’s KNBC looks at a few of the exhibit’s new features. “Visitors can hear Nixon's White House tapes. They can also see the lock-picking tools of the men who broke into the Democratic National Headquarters at the Watergate in 1972. And they can look at the documents that outline the downfall of the 37th president.” The Los Angeles Times’ Christopher Goffard calls the new exhibit a “raw and detailed look” at the scandal. He lists specifics about what’s changed under the library’s new director Timothy Naftali. “Where the old exhibit featured a heavily edited version of the ‘smoking gun’ tape that sealed Nixon's resignation ... the new exhibit presents it in full. Where the old text contended that a ‘mechanical malfunction’ explained the infamous 18 1/2-minute gap in a key Nixon conversation, visitors will now be told it was probably a deliberate erasure.” But as the National Interest’s Marvin Kalb explains - the late president’s supporters don’t see those changes as improvements. “He was misunderstood, misreported and misremembered. He was, in fact, a great president, many of his friends—and a few others—still believe. Who better in foreign affairs, for example?” But Kalb also writes... “Presidential libraries are not supposed to be flagships of political reinvention... They are supposed to be—and most are—historically rooted, philosophically neutral representations of our presidents.” Previously unwelcome at the exhibit before the change in management were the reporters who helped bring the Watergate scandal to light. But earlier this week -- Bob Woodward visited for the first time. BOB WOODWARD: “I was banned, initially, the old head of the library said I couldn't come.” REPORTER: “Even Woodward called it a neutral account.” WOODWARD: “We were listening to the Nixon interviews and Nixon offered his defense. Some people are going to buy it, some aren't.” (VIDEO FROM KNTV) Follow Newsy_Videos on Twitter. Get more multisource video news analysis from Newsy. Transcript by Newsy
