Oprah Winfrey aired her interview with Whitney Houston’s daughter, Bobbi Kristina Brown, Sunday night. The OWN Network special marked Bobbi Kristina’s first interview since her mother’s death. KGTV has a clip.
“I can sing her music, but to hear it right now. I can’t. I can hear her voice and spirit talking to me and telling me, ‘Keep moving, baby. I’m right here.’”
Bobbi Kristina told Oprah she’s doing as well as one could hope. WBFF reports Oprah also sat down with Pat Houston, Whitney’s sister-in-law, manager and best friend.
“Were you afraid that she would be gone too soon?”
“If things hadn’t changed, but things were really changing with her.”
There have been rumors Bobbi Kristina also suffers from substance abuse problems like her mother once did. That issue was not addressed in the interview, but the 19-year-old did tell Oprah she plans to head down the same career path as her mother.
“We’re gonna do the singing thing. We’re gonna do some acting, some dancing.”
“Oh my god. That’s a lot of pressure for you, don’t you think?”
“It’s a lot of pressure, but she prepared me for it.”
Bobbi Kristina is now living with her Uncle Gary and Aunt Pat at Whitney’s Atlanta home. On WFLD, an anchor and panelist from TMZ analyze the interview, calling it both “chilling” and “telling.”
“When Oprah asked if there was any resentment for people saying Bobbi Brown got Whitney hooked on drugs, and Bobbi Kristina said she didn’t know if that was true. It was a really telling interview, and like you said, very emotional as well.”
Hollywood Life applauds Bobbi Kristina on speaking and maintaining her composure.
But The Washington Post points out the interview didn’t deliver any major revelations, saying Winfrey asked generally easy questions.
“Winfrey didn’t ask [Bobbi Kristina] more probing questions about her hospital stay shortly after her mother’s passing, or about her current relationship with her father, Bobby Brown. The talk show host treated her gently, perhaps because Pat Houston was the one who had been appointed to answer the really hard stuff.”
Pat shed tears when talking about seeing Whitney’s body. Pat and her husband Gary, Whitney’s brother, also addressed Bobby Brown. Gary called him a “good guy,” and said he loved Bobby -- he just didn’t know if Bobby and Whitney were very good for each other.
Finally, NBC’s Today Show has Bobbi Kristina describing her last day with her mother.
“I went to go get her, and I said, ‘Mom, will you just come lay down with me?’ and I slept in her arms, all day. All night long.”
In the interview, Bobbi Kristina did not address a TMZ report that she plans to change her last name from ‘Brown’ to ‘Houston.’
