BY: LINDSEY WOLF ANCHOR JIM FLINK South by Southwest Interactive has kicked off, and techies around the world are rejoicing. It’s being referred to as “Spring Break for Geeks” - a week they’ve been waiting for since the festival wrapped up last year. The reason? “It's where hipster culture meets geek culture, and where Internet entrepreneurs are treated like rock stars.” (CNN) “It's where tech's early adopters get to act like Hollywood studio heads, passing judgment on new ideas and propelling some into the national consciousness.” (Bloomberg) Past success stories include Twitter and Foursquare - and analysts credit their leap to the big leagues to the festival. A reporter for TIME says, this year, group text messaging is expected to be the next big thing. “...small group messaging has the potential to usher in a new era of useful intimacy. Or just help you find the best bash.” So what does this mean for the future of interaction? The Huffington Post thinks laptops are losing momentum, while cell phones are becoming ever more important. “The mobile device will continue to be the epicenter of this activity as we move into the future. But based on what's about to happen at SXSW, the future is NOW.” And this year, big businesses like Microsoft, Apple and Chevy are joining in on the fun. But is the festival getting too corporate and too big? CNET thinks the little guy could get hurt. “Entrepreneurial types … may be disappointed to find their audiences drawn away from the Austin Convention Center, the main hub of the conference, by a plethora of unofficial panels, brunches, poolside parties, and other daytime activities.” And an entrepreneur who agrees took to Twitter to say, "I can't imagine a worse place to launch a start-up this weekend. Too much noise.” “Key thing is you don't want to seem like just another contender in a town full of pitches. You want to stand out." South by Southwest also has film and music events planned. The festival lasts through March 20th. Follow Newsy_Videos on Twitter Get more multisource video news analysis from Newsy Transcript by Newsy

The original location, opened in 2003,[4] is at 22 SW 3rd Avenue, "just south of the Burnside Bridge"[2] and around the corner from Dan and Louis Oyster Bar. It is known for its unusual doughnuts and decor. There are two other locations, one at 1501 NE Davis Street in Portland that opened in June 2008, and one in Eugene, Oregon that opened officially in June 2010. In addition to doughnuts, Voodoo Doughnut offers legal wedding services, complete with doughnuts and coffee for the reception. The Los Angeles Times noted Voodoo is an international tourist attraction. Two of their doughnuts, the NyQuil Glazed doughnut and the Vanilla Pepto Crushed Tums doughnut, are no longer available by order of local health officials. According to one of the co-owners, "the Nyquil one was kind of a lark, but that’s the one that got the most famous. With the Pepto doughnut, I honestly thought if you had that shot of tequila you shouldn’t have at 2:00 a.m., and then you got sugar, bread, Pepto, and Tums, you’d either feel better or puke your ass off and then feel better because you got it out of your system. So it was a win-win either way. On December 24, 2008, Voodoo's Portland Creme was designated as Portland's "Official City Doughnut" by a resolution introduced by Portland Mayor Tom Potter and passed by city commissioners the same night. The resolution also expressed Portlanders' "deepest gratitude to Voodoo Doughnut management for its dedication in the face of these stringent economic times in providing employment opportunities...and above all, creating and naming a doughnut after our beloved city that leaves a lasting taste and fond memories on its customers near and far away. Later, mayor Tom Potter and mayoral candidate Sam Adams attended a regular midnight doughnut-eating contest

BY MIRANDA WHEATLEY ANCHOR JENNIFER MECKLES You're watching multisource tech video news analysis from Newsy. The Amazon cloud went down early Wednesday morning when an unspecified problem temporarily knocking out power to the company’s Elastic Cloud Computing or, EC2, servers. And big social network names like FourSquare, Hootsuite and Reddit along with other Internet start-ups who use the cloud were struck down along with it. E-Week explains... “Amazon began reporting trouble on its Service Health Dashboard about 5 a.m. Eastern today. At 5:16 a.m., the site reported connectivity issues that were affecting its Relational Database Service, which is used to manage a relational database in the cloud, across multiple zones in the eastern U.S.” The crash had users and site operators alike upset... Popular Twitter management site, Hootsuite, was one of the companies brought down. As of Thursday afternoon the company still had a error message on their homepage... “The Internet is struggling today...Thank you for your patience.” Another social networking site, Reddit, sent users a message via their website. “reddit is in ‘emergency read-only mode’ right now because Amazon is experiencing a degradation. they are working on it but we are still waiting for them to get to our volumes. you won't be able to log in. we're sorry and will fix the site as soon as we can.” Then there’s Amazon’s constantly updated Health Dashboard, whose latest update said... “We are continuing to see delays...We are working towards a resolution.” All of this has raised some serious questions -just how safe and sound is the cloud and how did the meltdown start? “What happened? Well we don’t really know yet, Amazon is still kind of not talking a lot publicly they’ve been basically informing their customers via their health, their status board basically, it’s basically a live update of where they’re seeing the problems [flash] This seems to be to be the small start-up or any businesses sort of worse fear when it comes to the cloud. [flash] but then there’s this concern that when it goes down, what happens to our business?” (Wall Street Journal) Amazon hasn’t come forward to say what officially caused the failure. But a blogger for Technorati says this should be a warning for future cloud users. “This latest hiccup further highlights the complexities and potential pitfalls of the rush to cloud computing. … this kind of outage may give many would-be cloud adopters a reason to think twice before putting all of their eggs in one cloudy basket.” While some speculated the crash would have a domino effect right into Amazon’s stock prices an analyst for the Wall Street Journal says the cloud is only a sliver of the Amazon pie at only 3 percent.
