"Freedom! '90" (also known simply as "Freedom") is a song written and performed by George Michael, and released on Epic Records in 1990. The "'90" added to the end of the title is to prevent confusion with a Wham! song also titled "Freedom". George Michael refused to appear in the music video - which was directed by David Fincher and shot by Jeff Cronenweth - and instead recruited a number of supermodels (including Naomi Campbell, Linda Evangelista, Christy Turlington, Tatjana Patitz, Cindy Crawford, and male models John Pearson, Mario Sorrenti, and Peter Formby) to mouth the words. It also featured the destruction of the three items from "Faith" that had come to symbolize Michael's career at that point: his leather jacket (burned), jukebox (exploded) and guitar (exploded).

George Michael - Freedom '90 (MTV Unplugged 1996) Lyrics: Heaven knows I was just a young boy Didn't know what I wanted to be I was every little hungry schoolgirl's pride and joy And I guess it was enough for me To win the race? A prettier face! Brand new clothes and a big fat place On your rock and roll TV But today the way I play the game is not the same No way Think I'm gonna get myself happy I think there's something you should know I think it's time I told you so There's something deep inside of me There's someone else I've got to be Take back your picture in a frame Take back your singing in the rain I just hope you understand Sometimes the clothes do not make the man All we have to do now Is take these lies and make them true somehow All we have to see Is that I don't belong to you And you don't belong to me Freedom You've gotta give for what you take Freedom You've gotta give for what you take Heaven knows we sure had some fun boy What a kick just a buddy and me We had every big shot good-time band on the run boy We were living in a fantasy We won the race Got out of the place I went back home got a brand new face For the boys on MTV But today the way I play the game has got to change Oh yeah Now I'm gonna get myself happy I think there's something you should know I think it's time I stopped the show There's something deep inside of me There's someone I forgot to be Take back your picture in a frame Don't think that I'll be back again I just hope you understand Sometimes the clothes do not make the man All we have to do now Is take these lies and make them true somehow All we have to see Is that I don't belong to you And you don't belong to me Freedom You've gotta give for what you take Freedom You've gotta give for what you take Well it looks like the road to heaven But it feels like the road to hell When I knew which side my bread was buttered I took the knife as well Posing for another picture Everybody's got to sell But when you shake your ass They notice fast And some mistakes were built to last That's what you get I say that's what you get That's what you get for changing your mind And after all this time I just hope you understand Sometimes the clothes Do not make the man.

Three incarnations of the festival were realized in Rio de Janeiro, in 1985, 1991 and 2001 and two in Lisbon, in 2004 and 2006. The second edition was held from January 18-27, 1991 at the Maracanã stadium. Headliners were Guns N' Roses, Prince and George Michael, each being top billed for two of the event's nine nights. George Michael's second concert, on January 27, the festival's closing day, featured his ex-Wham! partner Andrew Ridgeley, who joined Michael for a few songs at the encore. ♫ Papa Was a Rollin' Stone ♫ "Papa Was a Rollin' Stone" is a soul song, written by Motown songwriters Norman Whitfield and Barrett Strong as a single for Motown act The Undisputed Truth in 1971. This version of "Papa" was released as a single in early 1972, and peaked at number sixty-three on the pop charts and number twenty-four on the R&B charts. Later in 1972, Whitfield, who also produced the song, took "Papa Was a Rollin' Stone" and remade it as a twelve-minute record for The Temptations, which was a number-one hit on the Billboard Hot 100 and won three Grammy Awards in 1973. While the original Undisputed Truth version of the song has been largely forgotten, The Temptations' version of the song has been an enduring and influential soul classic. It was ranked #168 on Rolling Stone's list of the 500 Greatest Songs of All Time, one of the group's three songs on the list. In retrospect, Otis Williams considers "Papa" to be the last real classic and hit for the group. Release and awards A seven-minute edited version of "Papa Was a Rollin' Stone" was released as a single in September 1972; its b-side was Whitfield's instrumental without the Temptations' vocals. "Papa" rose to number one on the U.S. pop charts and number five on the U.S. R&B charts, becoming the Temptations' final pop number-one hit. The song, the anchor of the 1972 Temptations album All Directions, won three 1973 Grammys: its a-side won for Best R&B Vocal Performance by a Group, and its b-side won for Best R&B Instrumental (awarded to Whitfield and arranger/conductor Paul Riser), and Whitfield and Barret Strong won for Best R&B Song as the song's composers. A few notable covers of "Papa Was a Rollin' Stone" have been recorded, including a 1993 version by George Michael, released on the EP Five Live. Also "Papa Was a Rollin Stone" has been mixed with Coldplay's "Clocks" to make "Papa was a Clock". Cover hierarchy: ●Papa Was a Rolling Stone by The Temptations (August 1972) ●Papa Was a Rolling Stone by David Lindley & El Rayo-X (1988) ●Papa Was a Rolling Stone by George Michael and Queen (1993) ●Papa Was a Rolling Stone by The Lovemongers (1993) ●Papa Was a Rolling Stone by 4 the Cause (August 25, 1998) ●Där Papa isch äs Chorbi gsi by Sina (January 29, 1999)
