With the Southern Hemisphere leg done and dusted, the TTR World Snowboard Tour will take a brief hiatus before turning all focus to the Northern Hemisphere competition calendar.  The 2011/12 season marks the 10th anniversary of the TTR World Tour and the Northern Hemisphere leg is, once again, packed full of the best independent snowboard competitions in the world on all levels.  New for the TTR Tour this year is the introduction of an all-new World Tour Ranking system that is now broken out to rank riders in individual disciplines: Overall Tour Ranking, Halfpipe Tour Ranking, Slopestyle Tour Ranking and Big Air Tour Ranking.  In addition, the TTR World Tour has a new 6Star competition onboard, the World Snowboarding Championships, which will feature halfpipe, quarterpipe and slopestyle with a huge prize purse worth $500,000 USD.     The 6Star event calendar has shaped up to be an elite list of classic events that have been around for ages with the added highlight of the inaugural World Snowboarding Championships (WSC).  The 6Star Tour will begin in December with the Shaun White Oakley Air & Style Beijing in China where riders will go head-to-head in the famed ‘bird’s nest’ National Stadium.  The Tour will then move to Switzerland in January for the O’Neill Evolution in Davos. Before the the all-new World Snowboarding Championships in Oslo in February, riders will make a stop off in Austria for one of the longest-running events in snowboarding: The Billabong Air & Style Innsbruck.  From here riders will compete at the Burton European Open in Laax. The season will be capped off with the cornerstone of freestyle snowboarding events, the 30th annual Burton US Open, where TTR will crown the Overall, Halfpipe and Slopestyle Tour Champions.  The combined prize purse of all 6Star events for the 2011/12 season is worth a whopping $1.15-million USD.

Oslo, Norway played host for the first ever TTR World Snowboarding Championships. After ten years setting up the worlds biggest snowboarding tour, TTR and WSF, organised the World Snowboarding Championships as the pinnacle event of snowboarding, scheduled to be held every 4 years and featuring over two hundred of the worlds best riders. All eyes were on Oslo as the worlds media turned up to witness this milestone in the history of competitive freestyle snowboarding. The WSC kicked off with a quarter pipe exhibition event and a huge norwegian crowd came out to see the home grown legend Terje Haakonsen, and a field of international top riders compete. Oliver Gittler and his huge mctwists took home 30.000$ for the overall best rider of the night. In the women's Halfpipe event, Kelly Clark took her 15th straight halfpipe win in a row. Queralt Castellet came in just one point behind Kelly's score in second place and Gretchen Bleiler completed the podium in third. In the mens Halfpipe, swiss rider Iouri Podladtchicov threw down an almost perfect run to win the Halfpipe World Champion trophy,$40,000 USD, and 1000 TTR Ranking Points. For slopestyle finals the riders were greeted with sunshine, a pumped crowd and a perfect course. Canadian, Spencer O’Brien, took the win for the women, beating out previous ttr world tour winners Jamie Anderson and Enni Rukajarvi. It was a dramatic final as Chas took the win away from Canadian, Sebastien Toutant, on the last run of the last heat. landing his first ever switch backside 1260. The first-ever TTR World Snowboarding Championships has come to a close and has crowned four new World Champions for the sport of snowboarding in slopestyle and halfpipe disciplines. With the success of the inaugural event, TTR and the riders are already looking forward to the next edition slated to take place in 2016.
