The more it has done a certain movement, the easier it will become and the faster the brain can trigger the muscles. If you are currently performing a workout that does not incorporate functional training, strength and speed, you are doing yourself a disservice.
It is important to break down the most common movements and positions in basketball and then overload those movements with weights or elastic bands as I have done in the video. The ability to accelerate against resistance and speed will develop when the resistance is removed.
A basic foundation of strength is also essential to allow you to produce a large amount of force quickly. Power is a product of force and time so developing strength through functional movements is key. I discourage all my athletes from using machines, unless absolutely necessary.
