Raymour & Flanigan Furniture proudly serves our communities by reducing our impact on the environment through recycling and environmentally friendly practices. Since June 2007, over 32 million pounds (16,018 tons) of cardboard, Styrofoam, plastic packaging materials and mixed office paper have been processed at our Recycling Center on the main Liverpool campus. Redirecting this recycled material from the landfills is the equivalent of planting over 102,000 trees and preserving nearly 9,000 acres of forest.

*******www.newsy**** As the world celebrates Earth Day, energy consumption is one of the most important topics… Where will we find new forms of energy? How will we work together to use it? And how can journalists tell the story better? "Congress will debate a bill that could completely change the way we make and use energy. Now that the EPA says that climate change poses a threat to public safety, Congress could regulate greenhouse gasses for the first time …" (MSNBC) "I’m all for clean environment, but, you want a real clean environment? Go back to the cave age." (BBC) "There’s no such thing as clean coal, have all fallen dramatically. See? Look. If it was so clean it wouldn’t come off on my hand." (CNBC) "Oil shouldn’t be at $41 today, it should be at $20 today. My prediction is right." (FOX News) "Why not take this opportunity to put a tax on gasoline, bump it back up to $4 a gallon, where people were prepared to pay for that, and use that revenue for alternative energy and as a signal to the consumers those days are gone?" (NBC) "A lot of people are deciding hey, it doesn’t pay right now to go with a hybrid, because as is already so cheap." (WTSP) "Really what we’re doing is reinventing the automobile. How we move around cities and how we interact in cities." (NBC) "Italy and France have signed a new co-operation deal that could see Italy embrace Nuclear power again, 21 years after voters rejected atomic energy." (euronews) "Whats the problem with wind power? Well Meghan, I guess its too easy for one, but for two, some people don’t like the way it looks." (FOX News) "Those turbins produce electricity without any emissions, without any other fuel source other than the wind and they produce a lot of power." (CNN) "Future sidewalks might be covered with smart panels that capture piezoelectricity power generated from applied mechanical pressure." (The Discovery Channel) What do you think? Are journalists doing a good job of telling environmental stories? Please, visit our sources, and stay tuned for more of Newsy****’s Earth Day coverage, where we look at perspectives on some of the world’s most pressing environmental and energy issues.

*******SupremeMasterTV**** - Renowned biologist cites tragic biodiversity loss. Harvard University Professor and two-time Pulitzer Prize winning biologist and ecologist Edward Wilson warns that biodiversity on Earth is suffering from drastic loss. With just under two million species currently catalogued, an estimated 30 million exist. And although 183 species have been formally declared extinct since the beginning of the last century, Dr. Wilson states that this number is a vast underestimate, with annual extinctions more likely in the neighborhood of 20-30,000 species.

*******SupremeMasterTV**** - European livestock raising exceeds carbon storage of trees and soils. In a study published in the journal Nature Geoscience, researchers at Germany’s Max Planck Institute for Biogeochemistry found that although farms in Europe have the capacity to store some 125 million tons of CO2 equivalent through absorption by trees, grass and soil, these numbers did not take into account emissions from livestock and fertilizers. Lead author and Institute Director Dr. Detlef Schulze stated that the numbers changed drastically when factoring in the methane generated by livestock as well as the nitrous oxide produced by animal manure.

*******SupremeMasterTV**** - From prolonged droughts and water scarcity to increased floods and food shortages, disasters have already begun striking the regions with the least infrastructure and resources to cope with them. Organizations like the World Bank have estimated mitigation costs at up to hundreds of billions of US dollars each year. However, one solution being advocated by groups in Copenhagen that would reduce both climate cost mitigation and global warming itself is the organic vegan diet.
