Our standard under bench filter provides great protection from the contaminants found in public water supply systems with the combination of KDF and Carbon treatments. Unlike carbon filters, the KDF technology increases the range and effectiveness of treatment, while creating an environment which will not support bacterial growth. KDF® the name for high purity copper and zinc granules. In solution, these two metals interact to create a slight electrical charge. The resulting ionization and oxidation/reduction processes modify the structure of heavy metals and other contaminants. This media is a major advancement in water treatment technology that works on the electro-chemical and spontaneous-oxidation-reduction (redox) principles. Chlorine is instantaneously and almost inexhaustibly oxidized. Iron and hydrogen sulfide are oxidized into insoluble matter and attach to the surface of the media. Heavy metals such as lead, mercury, cadmium, and aluminum are removed from the water by the electrochemical process. Arsenic and radon are reduced. Metals are attracted to the surface of the media, much like a magnet. The media also inhibits bacteria growth throughout the entire unit and in fact, has been shown to reduce it up to 90%!

The best foods for removing heavy metals from your body are wheatgrass, chlorella, spirulina, cilantro and garlic. According to Dietrich Klinghardt, M.D., Ph.D., cilantro is probably the only agent effective at removing toxic mercury from intracellular spaces and the nuclei of cells. Foods rich in sulfur, are also important to help reduce a toxic metal load, such as grass-fed meats, egg yolks, garlic, onions, and cruciferous vegetables. Turmeric which helps maintain the health of the liver and kidneys is also effective at expelling toxins from the body. Alpha -lipoic acid is a potent antioxidant that is essential for healthy metabolism. It also binds to heavy metals in the body and helps clear mercury and lead from the body. Alpha lipoic acid can be found in foods such as Brewer’s yeast, beets, broccoli, carrots, potatoes, spinach, red meat, organ meats, and yams. Foods rich in amino acids-Amino acids are natural chelators, they can be found in foods such as corn, carrots, grapes, oatmeal, papayas, plums and pomegranates

Heavy metals are generally defined as environmentally stable elements of high specific gravity and atomic weight. They have such characteristics as luster, ductility, malleability, and high electric and thermal conductivity. Whether based on their physical or chemical properties, the distinction between heavy metals and non-metals is not sharp. For example, arsenic , germanium, selenium, tellurium, and antimony possess chemical properties of both metals and non-metals. Defined as metalloids, they are often loosely classified as heavy metals. The category "heavy metal" is, therefore, somewhat arbitrary and highly non-specific because it can refer to approximately 80 of the 103 elements in the periodic table. The term "trace element" is commonly used to describe substances which cannot be precisely defined but most frequently occur in the environment in concentrations of a few parts per million (ppm) or less. Only a relatively small number of heavy metals such as cadmium , copper , iron, cobalt, zinc, mercury , vanadium, lead , nickel , chromium, manganese, molybdenum, silver, and tin as well as the metalloids arsenic and selenium are associated with environmental, plant, animal, or human health problems. While the chemical forms of heavy metals can be changed, they are not subject to chemical/biological destruction. Therefore, after release into the environment they are persistent contaminants. Natural processes such as bedrock and soil weathering , wind and water erosion , volcanic activity, sea salt spray, and forest fires release heavy metals into the environment. While the origins of anthropogenic releases of heavy metals are lost in antiquity, they probably began as our prehistoric ancestors learned to recover metals such as gold, silver, copper, and tin from their ores and to produce bronze. The modern age of heavy metal pollution has its beginning with the Industrial Revolution. The rapid development of industry, intensive agriculture, transportation , and ur

Take a careful look at your diet to make sure that it supplies all of the essential nutrients you need. An adequate diet not only keeps you from developing deficiencies, but also reduces your risk of being affected by heavy metals. Purify your drinking water and immediate air space, avoid the use of toxic personal care products and, above all, ask questions before you buy any product or food item. Don’t be embarrassed to call the manufacturer, of your favorite foods, and ask “have you tested your food for heavy metals?” This may feel like a hassle but, if you’re dealing with a chemical sensitivity or serious health issue – the effort is well worth the reward. Just be warned, most companies are NOT testing – which should only motivate you to buy local organically-grown foods, as much as possible or purchase your food from a reputable source that satisfies your concerns. Your body absorbs heavy metals through the same transport mechanisms it uses for certain nutrients, such as calcium. For example, when you’re deficient in iron, or zinc, your body is better able to take up heavy metals such as cadmium. A balanced diet ought to include lots of organic fruits and vegetables, beans, whole grains, small amounts of pasture-raised grass-fed dairy or meat if you like, nuts and seeds. Naturally, to reduce your absorption of unwanted contaminants – a diet rich in fiber, dark leafy green vegetables like, kale and collard greens plus the regular consumption of superfoods like, chlorella and Hawaiian spirulina are a wise choice. And another thing, often overlooked, is your cookware – which may be leaching toxic metals into your meals. For best results, you may want to invest in a ceramic cookware set. Often said, but worth repeating, a child’s greatest exposure to metals come in the form of vaccines and mercury-based fillings. To avoid exposure, find a healthcare provider you can trust.

The term heavy metal refers to any metallic chemical element that has a relatively high density and is toxic or poisonous at low concentrations. Heavy metals are natural components of the Earth's crust. They cannot be degraded or destroyed. To a small extent they enter our bodies via food, drinking water and air. As trace elements, some heavy metals (e.g. copper, selenium, zinc) are essential to maintain the metabolism of the human body. However, at higher concentrations they can lead to poisoning. Heavy metal poisoning could result, for instance, from drinking-water contamination (e.g. lead pipes), high ambient air concentrations near emission sources, or intake via the food chain.
