Season Greetings, Welcome to the Winter edition of the Hike of the Week! This hike takes us just outside the city of Anchorage on upper hillside to the Silver Fern Spur Trail. This trail system is your connection to a variety of incredible hikes into the Chugach Park System. Silver Fern Trail is a 1.3 mile trail that connect with Gas Line trail, which if taken will lead you up to Powerline trail, Flattop Mountain and beyond! We're taking a short loop today, which totals at 2.6 miles long. To sum up this hike: Close to town, scenic, not strenuous, but has potential if hiked at a faster pace, and never very crowded! Enjoy! Scott

Alaska Podshow #154 Hike of the week takes you up to Hatcher Pass! This mountainous area is infectious with its grand vistas, and historical artifacts that remain scattered throughout the mountain ranges. Today cabins are left from the Gold Rush, which some still rest on the summit of the highest peaks to the lowest areas of the valley. The range of visitors to Hatcher Pass vary from families to professional mountaineers, itâs truly a place for everyone. Todays show we take you up one mountain. Directions from Anchorage: Take the Glenn Highway from Anchorage. Two miles past the city of Palmer, turn left on Palmer-Fishhook Road, which becomes the Hatcher Pass Road. The Hatcher Pass Management Area is 10 miles from downtown Palmer; Independence Mine is 18 miles from Palmer. Welcome to Alaska Podshow's Hike of the Week Bear Mountain! Bear Mountain offers scenic views, while also offering a quick elevation gain. This hike is a bit strenuous in parts, and you'll want to be sure the trail has been free of rain, or ice as melting makes these steep slopes a challenge. The views from the top are priceless, and if possible bring a tent and explore for a day or two! In the fall season you'll also have the opportunity to see both Moose, Sheep, as well be aware of Bears. There are a few other late in the season perks on this hike, but we locals prefer you keep it to yourself once you make the discovery. Alaska HDTV Presents: Hatcher Pass "Unknown" hike. Greetings Hike of the Week fans! We originally had another hike planned but the pass was not open through to Summit Lake, so the hike was diverted to a spontaneous location I've not hiked in over ten years. ÂWe'll call this one though a very scenic, family friendly, and not heavily traveled hike from what I could see. It's July 2nd as I write this and we've still a fare amount of snow still on the ground with early spring still coming through in areas above 2000 feet. Enjoy the SHOW Scott Alaska HDTV www.alaskahdtv****Â
