In this video, His Holiness the Dalai Lama not only acknowledges that the boy he recognised as the 11th Panchen Lama is alive and well, and receiving a good education, but His Holiness also praises the fact the Chinese-recognised Panchen Lama is receiving a good education from a good teacher. In fact, His Holiness the Dalai Lama in this video addresses the China-recognised Panchen Lama as the official one.
The Dalai Lama then goes on to state that there can be two reincarnations of the same person existing at the same time, and even provides a past example to support his statement, in the form of Jamyang Khyentse Wangpo, who reincarnated back as five different people.
With the Dalai Lama’s acknowledgement of the Chinese-backed Panchen Lama as an authentic reincarnation, it is time for everyone to respect the Dalai Lama’s wishes, and his recognition that both Panchen Lama candidates are valid. Therefore, as the Dalai Lama mentioned, one incarnation holds the official seat and the other continues to benefit others in his own special way. By criticising either of the Panchen Lamas, it is to criticise His Holiness in this and his spiritual authority over the matter.
