Everyone watches the action, but who pays attention to the ref? Hopefully Chicago Bears linebacker Lance Briggs has as I challenge his knowledge of referee calls and signals. Refereeing is former running back and current ESPN analyst Merril Hoge.

New England will look to get younger at Linebacker with their first pick on Draft Day Hey everyone this is Dana Ward with our New England Patiots NFL Draft Coverage on GamblersTelevision****. Sitting with the seventh pick in the NFL Draft are the New England Patriots coming off a Super Bowl loss to the NY Giants. The New England Patriots were a dropped interception pass away from going a perfect 19-0 last season. Starting cornerback Assante Samuel was signed away from the Patriots through free agency and it’s questionable if his replacement would come this season in the first round. Many believe head coach Bill Belichick would look through his free agent acquisitions to fill that hole and not go with an inexperienced DB in the starters role. The Patriot linebackers have some age on them with soon to be 35-year-old Teddy Bruschi and Junior Seau who at 38 is facing a retirement decision. Inside linebacker Keith Rivers from USC would be a good fit for the Patriots. Rivers possesses good size, strength and quickness and uses those talents to shed off blockers very well. Rivers is also very good at creating turnovers as he has the skill to jar the ball loose from running backs and is a very big hitter. Rivers has good closing speed to finish off sacks when asked to rush the quarterback. Gamblers Television projects the New England Patriots with the 7th pick to draft Keith Rivers, Linebacker from USC. Raider Fans, help is on the way for your defense on April 26th Hey everyone this is Dana Ward with our Oakland Raiders NFL Draft Coverage on GamblersTelevision****. Sitting with the fourth pick in the NFL Draft are the Oakland Raiders coming off another disappointing season. The Raiders went 4-12 last season and have failed to qualify for the playoffs in 5 seasons. The Oakland Raiders run defense was the second worst in the league last season ranking 31 out of 32 teams in the league giving up 146 yards per game on the ground. Defensive tackle Glenn Dorsey out of LSU would be a perfect fit for the Silver and Black for immediate help on the defensive line. Dorsey will demand a double team, he will clog up the middle and will free up linebackers to help stop the run. Dorsey has a very strong upper body and a thick build and he’s very quick off the line of scrimmage. He has an Al Davis quality in that he will play with pain as he did in 2006 playing through a stress fracture in his right leg. A sprained knee hampered Dorsey last season, as he was chop blocked but still played through it wearing a knee brace. The NFL wont allow the chop blocks Dorsey faced in college because offensive lineman will be hit with 15 yard penalties and will be hit with fines from the league. With the 4th pick in the NFL Draft, Gamblers Television projects Glenn Dorsey, Defensive Lineman from LSU going to the Oakland Raiders. nuptials**** New York Giant's star, and recent Super Bowl Ring winner, Antonio Pierce scored again when he married his beatiful bride, model and TV host Jocelyn Maldonado, in Hawaii. The bride looked gorgeous in a ruffled chiffon gown, carrying a bouquet of peach roses and white orchids, while Pierce looked relaxed yet tasteful in a khaki suit. The wedding was the culmination of a week of festivities meant to celebrate the couple's relationship, which included a giant Luau and and an all white party, all in the beautiful Tropical setting. The usually tough linebacker got in touch with his romantic side at the ceremony, which culminated with the couple kissing with the sun setting behind them. Let this be a lesson to all you future grooms out there. Even giant linebackers can get sappy and romantic, so don't try to fight it.

gamblerstelevision**** After a 7-9 record in 2006 expectations were high for the San Francisco 49'ers in 2007. Instead the team suffered their 5th consecutive losing season and an offense that produced the 32nd ranked scoring and passing offense in the league. This led to a 5-11 season and nearly cost 49'ers head coach Mike Nolan his job. Oddsmakers have set the 49'ers season win total at 6 games. When you handicap season win totals you must, I mean must look at the schedule. Schedule: A game you can circle for the 49'ers is their September 21st home date against Detroit. Mike Martz would like nothing better than to stick it up Lion coach Rod Marinelli for being the fall guy for Detroit in 2007 with his firing after last season. San Francisco must play the AFC East and get New England and the NY Jets at home and must travel to Miami and a tough trip to Buffalo in late November. The 49'ers are scheduled against the tough NFC East and that means road trips to Dallas and the NY Giants and home dates with Washington and Philadelphia. Also mixed in is a road game at the New Orleans Saints who will be an improved team. The 2008 schedule is a difficult one for the 49'ers. Offense: Quarterback Alex Smith begins his 4th NFL season with his 4th different offensive coordinator and system. Former St Louis Rams head coach and 2007 Detroit Lions offensive coordinator Mike Martz will run the Rams offense. Quarterbacks have improved under Martz such as Kurt Warner, Marc Bulger and even Jon Kitna last season. Martz is saying the right things about running back Frank Gore being the centerpiece of the offense. But last season Martz abandoned the run much to the disgust of his head coach Rod Marinelli which contributed to a 7-9 season and Martz' firing. Head coach Mike Nolan is a defensive minded coach and coupled with Martz offensive pass heavy system it just might create a volatile situation in the Bay area. Defensive minded coaches like their offenses to run the ball and control the clock but Martz is all about the big play. Nolan is facing a dilemma if his offensive coordinator chooses to abandon the run. Nolan could be handcuffed here because he is fighting for his job. Now Isaac Bruce comes over from the Rams to play wide receiver but he is 35 years old. Arnez Battle and Bryant Johnson really don't put much fear into opposing defenses. Jason Hill has good speed behind Bruce but was mired with injuries last season. This unit lacks a playmaker. Defense: Last season the 49'ers defense were on the field more than any other defensive unit in 2007. This season it could be more of the same with a Mike Martz quick scoring offense this season. When you have a Mike Martz offensive system your defense is going to be on the field quickly and you are going to need to be able to rotate players in out and out. Some of your starters are going to miss series to rest. Simply you need depth on defense. Fortunately the strength of this 49'ers team is their defense. Linebackers Patrick Willis was outstanding earning Defensive Rookie of the year last season. His battery mate Manny Lawson is coming off a torn ACL and we will see if he can still effectively chase down defenders against the run. The Niners lost 2 starters from last years defensive line and filled them with rookie first round pick Kentwan Balmer out of North Carolina and free agent Justin Smith from the Bengals. How well they develop backups will be the difference between a good or bad year for the defense. Based on the direction of this franchise over the past several seasons expect the worst. And now to my Selection: This is by far the weakest group of offensive talent Mike Martz has ever worked with. Unfortunately for 49'ers head coach Mike Nolan time isn't on his side. He needs to win now to keep his job and just barely survived the 2007 season. The 49'ers did little in the off season to give the offense the weapons to succeed and just a system change will not be enough in 2008. Poor Alex Smith. The guy has got to be totally confused entering his 4th year in the league under a 4th different offense. This is a franchise in chaos as they are breaking in a sixth offensive co-coordinator in 6 years. The schedule is brutal as well this season. Play San Francisco UNDER 6 wins for the 2008 season. Selection: UNDER 6 wins in 2008 Regular Season.

gamblerstelevision**** Hello pro football fans from our “Rockstar” studio this is Dana Ward here with a quick hitter from the NFL. The Chicago Bears followed-up their 2006 Super Bowl appearance with a disappointing 7 and 9 record in the 2007 season. The Bears defense was hit with multiple injuries to key personnel, so a return to great form is a possibility this season. The Bears three-time Pro Bowl defensive tackle Tommie Harris got a 40-million dollar contract extension from Chicago in the off-season. But there is a contract dispute with middle linebacker Brian Urlacher that is still pending and because of it, Urlacher has threatened to miss training camp. But the issue that had all Bears fans frustrated about last season was their quarterback situation. As we are less than a month away from training camp, the number-1 and number-2 quarterbacks on the Bears depth chart are Rex Grossman and Kyle Orton, as Brian Griese is now a Tampa Bay Buccaneer. With no quarterback selected during the draft and no quarterback free agent signing in the off-season, Bears fans have been left scratching their heads. Can the Bears really endure another year of chaos at the quarterback position? Well, offensive co-coordinator Rob Turner was quoted as saying that the quarterback race is dead-even heading into training camp. Things have gotten to the point that the Chicago Tribune ran a story over the weekend pondering the possibility of former or present or somewhere in between Green Bay Packer quarterback Bret Favre playing for the Bears next season. The Trib ran a poll on their website with 65-percent responding in favor of Bret Favre being in a Bear uniform as the starting quarterback. ESPN reported over the weekend that Favre was considering coming out of retirement. But he responded that it was all rumor and there was no need for all the media coverage about his NFL return. He still has two years remaining on his contract and already walked away from 25-million dollars. It would be very doubtful for the Packers to trade Favre to a division rival. The Bears released veteran running-back Cedric Benson and are hoping that Adrian Peterson, Garrett Wolfe and their young slew of backs behind them can carry the load. The Bears are counting on more big plays from their talented wideout and kick return specialist, Devin Hester. Hester possesses a great burst of speed and when in the open field is always a threat to score. Recent form has fantasy football experts recommending to pass on both roster quarterbacks for league owners. The Bears open the season Sunday September 7th on the road against the Indianapolis Colts. The Bears are currently a 9-point underdog in their opener, and oddsmakers have made the Bears a 30 to 1 longshot to win Super Bowl 43. That will do it for today’s NFL coverage. gamblerstelevision**** Tony T here from Gamblers Television covering the NFL “Vegas Style” all season long. 2007 was a very disappointing season for the NY Jets. They finished the year 4-12 and near the bottom in passing, scoring and red zone efficiency. The quarterback position was unstable with Chad Pennington and Kellen Clemens not playing well. The team invested a great deal of money on free agent acquisitions to improve their offensive line and defense. Oddsmakers have set the NY Jets season win total at 7 ½ wins. When you handicap season win totals you must, I mean must look at the schedule. Schedule: The Jets play in the AFC East with two games home and away against New England, Buffalo and Miami. The Jets went 2-4 against the division last year sweeping Miami. It might be a little tougher pulling the sweep against Miami this season but they could win at home against Buffalo. They play all the teams from the NFC West this season but got a little unlucky having to face the worst team from that division the 49’ers on the road. They have a Monday Night game at San Diego and must travel back to host Arizona in 5 days because it will be Tuesday morning once the Jets land back in New York. They drew the AFC West with tough games against the Chargers and Broncos but the Raiders in Oakland. They will beat KC at home. Offense: There is no clear favorite as training camp approaches at the quarterback position. Neither Chad Pennington nor Kellen Clemens did enough during mini camps to win the job outright. The problem with the Jets offense is they don’t throw deep and their receivers lack size. You need a big play threat in your passing game and with Pennington and his lack of arm strength it really limits them. There is no doubt the Jets will block better for him with their upgraded line. But you still have to make the throw. Running back Thomas Jones will need to find the form he had with the Bears. The team was 26th in the NFL in total rushing yards per game posting up a 94.8 average. There is no doubt this team will run better with better blocking this season and the Jets will have more manageable down and distance on 2nd and 3rd down plays. This offense will be ball control and will limit possessions for the other team. They can move the ball down field but once they get in the red zone and the field gets shorter what happens? Again your quarterback is going to have to make a throw around defenders and the Jets will most likely settle for field goals because they lack size in their receiving corp. Defense: The Jets had trouble getting a pass rush last season and after witnessing what pressure on Tom Brady can do to the Patriots during the Super Bowl the Jets made strides in improving that category. The linebacker positioned improved with the free agent acquisition of Calvin Pace and 1st round pick Vernon Gholston is being converted to linebacker in the Jets 3-4 defense. Pace and Gholston can put pressure on opposing quarterbacks. But when you run a 3-4 your defensive lineman better be good pass rushers. Pass rushing will be another shortcoming for this unit but it will do a better job against the run. The Jets acquired Kris Jenkins from Carolina but he has to adjust to an entire new scheme with the Jets at nose tackle. Without an improvement from the D line getting to the quarterback it will leave a young secondary vulnerable against big plays against them. And now to my Selection: The Jets will be an improved team over their 4-12 season. But their offensive shortcomings means that the lesser teams on their schedule will be within striking distance in the 4th quarter. Look for them to pull off some upsets this season and win outright has huge dogs. They could turn a nice profit for bettors betting them on the money line as underdogs getting back huge odds. But I can’t find 8 wins on their schedule this season. Even though it’s a favorable schedule the schedule has been adjusted in the betting line. Betting the Jets to break even or better in 2008 is a bad one. Play NY Jets Under 7 ½ wins for the 2008 season. Selection: Under 7 ½ wins in 2008 Regular Season. From *******GamblersTelevision**** Tony T Breaks down NFL Pro Football and offers his season win selection on the Pittsburgh Steelers on this edition of Tony Ts Sports Bets airing now on Gamblers Television. Tony T here from Gamblers Television covering the NFL “Vegas Style” all season long. The Pittsburgh Steelers won the AFC North last season with a 10-6 record but were eliminated in the playoffs by Jacksonville at home during wildcard weekend. The Steeler defense broke down during the final 5 games of last season by allowing an average of 29 points per game. Oddsmakers have set the projected season win total for the Steelers for the 2008 regular season at 9 wins. When you handicap season win totals you must, I mean must look at the schedule. Schedule: The Steelers have the toughest schedule in the NFL this season. 14 of their 16 opponents had winning records in 2007. Like the rest of the teams in their division the Steelers face the NFC East but must travel to the weakest teams in Washington and Philadelphia. They host both Dallas and the NY Giants. As division winners last season they must face first place San Diego and New England while the other 3 teams in their division wont face them. Two Monday night games are scheduled meaning a short week to prepare when facing Jacksonville and Indianapolis. How is this for scheduling from November 9th to December 7th they got in succession Indy, San Diego, Cincinnati, New England and Dallas. The Steelers need to get a good start to the season because wins late will be harder to come by. Offense: Big Ben Roethlisberger is coming off his first pro bowl season as he passed for 32 touchdowns last season. The Steelers locked up their starting quarterback by giving him at $102 million dollar contract for the next 8 years. The offensive line must do a better job of protecting him as Big Ben was sacked 47 times last season. They will be without Pro Bowl guard Alan Faneca who was lost through free agency. Running back Willie Parker had a good season rushing for over 1300 yards last season. He suffered a broken leg, which forced the talented runner to miss the last two games of the season. Parker showed no ill effect of the injury during mini camps. The Steelers added depth at the running back position by drafting Rashard Mendenhall in the first round. Hines Wards lead a talented receiving corps and a new addition will be 6-4 Limas Sweed who was drafted in the second round out of Texas. The Steelers added size in their receiving corps and will help them in critical third down plays as well as red zone throws. Heath Miller returns at tight end and his 6-5 height contributed to 7 touchdown receptions last season. The Steelers have talented playmakers on offense. 10 of 11 starters return for the Steelers potent offense from last season. The Steelers will put up plenty of points in 2008. Defense: Pittsburgh returns 10 starters from the #1 total defense from last season. Safety Troy Polamalu was stricken with a knee injury in 2007 that forced the talented safety to miss games. Polamalu could return to his good form with a healthy 2008 and makes a huge impact for the Steelers. I felt Polamalu’s health was part of the cause for the Steelers defensive breakdown late last season. They run the 3-4 and have a talented down lineman who can stop the run and set up plays for their linebackers. The defense also does a good job of creating turnovers. And now to my Selection: The Pittsburgh Steelers are loaded with talent on the offensive side of the ball. With Mendenhall coming in the draft it sets up 4th quarter situations where the Steelers can run out the clock on the ground with two good backs and will set up play action in the most critical points of the game. I think for this reason the Steelers have a good shot at sweeping the Bengals and Browns again because neither possesses a good defense. The Steelers will go 5-1 in the division this season and we need to find 5 more wins to get to 10. With the NY Giants getting a bit weaker on defense they will go 3-1 against the NFC East this season. They have Houston at home in week 1 which is a winnable game. We just need 1 win against the Colts, Chargers, Patriots, Titans or Jaguars to get to 10. With a really tough schedule this Steeler team will get to 10 wins. This team has 13-3 or 14-2 talent but with this difficult schedule will go 10-6. Play Pittsburgh over 9 wins this season. Play OVER 9 wins for the 2008 season. Selection: Over 9 wins in 2008 Regular Season. Be sure to visit and bookmark my TV Show page at www.GamblersTelevision**** for continues pointspread coverage from the NFL.
