Marciano was an Italian-American, born and raised in Brockton, Massachusetts to Pierino Marchegiano and Pasqualina Picciuto. Both of his parents were immigrants from Italy: his father was from Ripa Teatina, Abruzzo, while his mother was from San Bartolomeo in Galdo, Campania. Rocky had three sisters - Alice, Concetta, and Elizabeth - and two brothers - Louis and Peter. When he was about eighteen months old, he contracted pneumonia, from which he almost died.
In his youth, he played baseball, worked out on homemade weightlifting equipment, and used a stuffed mail bag that hung from a tree in his back yard as a heavy bag. He attended Brockton High School, where he played on the American football and baseball teams. However, he was cut from the school baseball team because he had joined a church league, violating a school rule forbidding players from joining other teams. He dropped out of school after finishing tenth grade.
Marciano then worked as a chute man on delivery trucks for the Brockton Ice and Coal Company. He also worked as a ditch digger and as a shoemaker. Rocky was also a resident of Hanson, Massachusetts; the house he lived in still stands on Main Street.
In March 1943, Marciano was drafted into the army for a term of two years. Stationed in Wales, he helped ferry supplies across the English Channel to Normandy. After the war ended, he completed his service in March 1946 at Fort Lewis, Washington.[
With just 30 seconds gone in the 13th round and with no punches thrown in the round thus far, Walcott backed away from Rocky Marciano into the ropes, a short punch that traveled no more than 12 inches, as hard a punch as ever seen, catches Walcott flush on the jaw as he bounced off the ropes. Referee Charley Daggert counted 10 over the prostrate form; he could have counted to 100, it would have made no difference.
Ezzard Charles had two stirring battles with Marciano which are regarded as ring classics. In the first bout, held in June of 1954, he valiantly took Rocky the distance, going down on points in a vintage heavyweight bout. In this clip their September rematch, Charles split Marciano's nose and almost won the fight by TKO. Marciano, however, rallied to KO Charles in the 8th round.

“LeRoy Neiman’s Big Band” is a documentary about the painting, “The Big Band,” by LeRoy Neiman, who may be America’s most successful living artist. “The Big Band,” is the result of LeRoy Neiman’s love of jazz. LeRoy has spent over 50 years perfecting the drawing of jazz musicians and singers. For Leroy, the exposure to jazz began with the swing of the big bands. For Eric Maricano, it was the challenge of melding LeRoy’s painting with the jazz people and sounds it represents. A Pepper Jay Production. *******www.actorsreporter**** Distributed by Tubemogul.
