Texas Artist, Bridgette Mongeon created a life-size newsboy sculpture for the Texas Press Association. This is a documentation of the process and the inspiration behind this creation as well as the small maquette, that was originally documented as an online journal on the artist's website. http://www.creativesculpture.com Educational links for teachers and students are available on the online journal. The Tabor City Tribune has purchased the second in the edition of the paper and changed the bronze newspaper to match their historical headline. The artist is presently seeking other historical headlines for the remaining sculptures in the edition.

Song: In the belly of the whale performed by the Newsboys. Barack Obama has been elected the next president of the United States, their first black leader, in a historic landslide victory. After sweeping a series of key battleground states, including early wins in Ohio, New Hampshire and Pennsylvania, Obama triumphed over Republican rival John McCain after securing Virginia and California. In his hometown of Chicago, Obama delivered a message of hope and unity. While conceding that "the road ahead will be long", he promised to overcome the economic, environmental and international challeges he described as "the greatest of our lifetime." The 47 year-old also answered critics of the US with return to "the enduring power of our ideals: democracy, liberty, opportunity and unyielding hope (...) the true genius of America." Arizona senator John McCain had been "extraordinarily gracious" in a telephone call after his defeat, according to Obama who was looking forward to working with the 72 year-old. Accompanied by running-mate Sarah Palin, McCain urged "all Americans who supported me to join me in not just congratulating him but offering our next president our goodwill and earnest effort to find ways to come together." McCain described Obama's historic victory in becoming the first African American president as "something I deeply admire and commend him for achieving", adding that the triumph would be a source of hope for those who had thought they had little influence in presidential elections. Current president George W Bush had also offered his congratulations.PM Gordon Brown, who had previously refused to be drawn on his prefered candidate, congratulated Obama and described him as a "true friend of Britain." He added that through working together "a safer and more secure society for the future" could be built.Speaking to BBC Radio Wales, First Minister Rhodri Morgan described the "Huge hopes (that) are invested in the Obama presidency". Morgan also called for co-operation with other world leaders "to restore order to the global financial system and give a kick-start to the world's economy to stop us plunging into depression".Mr Obama's inauguration will take place on January 20.Obama é o primeiro candidato negro à Presidência por um grande partido.

Cat Mother and the All Night Newsboys came from NYC and had a Top 40 hit with "Good Old Rock 'n' Roll," a creative medley of archetypal 1950s rock hits. Their debut album, THE STREET GIVETH...AND THE STREET TAKETH AWAY, was released on Polydor in 1969 and was produced by none other than Jimi Hendrix. Here are three of the best songs from the album: 1) "How I Spent My Summer" 2) "Favors" 3) "Good Old Rock 'n' Roll" I found my copy of the Cat Mother album in a record shop in Athens, Ohio. $3.00 did the trick.

The Concord Music Group, home to one of the largest jazz catalogs in the world, celebrates the 100th anniversary of the birth of Lionel Hampton – as part of the label’s ongoing Centennial Celebration series with the release of "Lionel Hampton - Centennial Celebration." Featured here are recordings with Art Tatum and Buddy Rich, Harry Sweets Edison, and the Golden Men of Jazz. Lionel Hampton was the first jazz vibraphonist and was one of the jazz giants beginning in the mid-'30s. He has achieved the difficult feat of being musically open-minded (even recording "Giant Steps") without changing his basic swing style. Hamp started out as a drummer, playing with the Chicago Defender Newsboys' Band as a youth. His original idol was Jimmy Bertrand, a '20s drummer who occasionally played xylophone. Hampton played on the West Coast with such groups as Curtis Mosby's Blue Blowers, Reb Spikes, and Paul Howard's Quality Serenaders (with whom he made his recording debut in 1929) before joining Les Hite's band, which for a period accompanied Louis Armstrong. At a recording session in 1930, a vibraphone happened to be in the studio, and Armstrong asked Hampton (who had practiced on one previously) if he could play a little bit behind him and on "Memories of You" and "Shine"; Hamp became the first jazz improviser to record on vibes.
