*******www.FreedomUniversity.TV. Here is a quick introduction describing a low pass filter LPF). A LPF passes low frequency signals while attenuating the amplitude of signals with higher frequencies at a frequency called the cutoff frequency. The cutoff frequency determines when frequencies of the input signal passes through the filter unattenuated and what signal frequencies gets attenuated. Below the cutoff frequency, signals with frequencies below the cutoff passes through unattenuated otherwise the signal gets attenuated when its frequency is above the cutoff frequency. Note that a high pass filter is opposite to a LPF and a bandpass filter is a cascade combination of a high-pass filter and low-pass filter. From a stereo perspective the low pass filter passes the bass frequencies and the high pass filter passes the treble audio signal. An equalizer basically consists of a whole bunch of bandpass filters connected in parallel. The low-pass filter exists in many different forms, but our focus here is in signal processing but it can be found in applications such as finance and image processing. You can think of a low pass filter as a smoother or averaging function removing the short-term variations or oscillations of a signal quantity. In finance for example, you take 120-day averages to determine long-term trends. The video will provide review what an ideal low pass filter is and provide a simple RC circuit as first-order filter. A Matlab/Simulink demo is given to illustrate how different frequencies of the input signal gets attenuated at the output when its greater than the cutoff frequency. This video does a Simulink Demo found within Matlab and the next video (Part 2) will show how to get a bode plot using the tf command to find the system transfer function and the command bode to generate the bode plots of magnitude and phase as a function of frequency. BY JENNIFER MECKLES You're watching multisource US video news analysis from Newsy. Threat eliminated -- so says the FBI about an alleged terrorism attack plan -- thwarted before anyone got hurt. Agents say they were paying close attention when a suspicious Texas college student started showing signs of trouble. KDFW in Dallas has that story: “A 20-year-old student from Saudi Arabia is in FBI custody charged with planning a chemical attack. Investigators say Khalid Ali-M Aldawsari came to the U.S. In 2008, with the intention of eventually carrying out a plot.” Aldawsari was living in the US legally on a student visa while he attended school in Texas as a chemical engineering major. He was arrested Wednesday and charged with attempting to use weapons of mass destruction. An FBI press release says Aldawsari listed his intentions in emails titled “NICE TARGETS.” It gives: “… the names of 12 reservoir dams in Colorado and California. In another e-mail to himself... he listed two categories of targets: hydroelectric dams and nuclear power plants. On Feb. 6, 2011... Aldawsari sent himself an e-mail titled "Tyrant's House...” 
 So, just who is that living at the Tyrants House? Its the Dallas address for … former President George W. Bush. Also on the list, three other members of the US military. The FBI says Aldawsari had planned to use explosives in booby-trapped cars or planted inside baby dolls. He also allegedly kept a blog where he would share his ideas and claim Osama bin Laden was an influence. (WFAA) Aldawsari’s case is unique because this wasn’t an FBI sting. The government only learned what he was up to after a chemical company flagged him as trouble. See, he needed a few ingredients for his explosives -- CNN explains how Aldawsari’s most recent purchase became the key tip in tracking him down. “He needed three ingredients, he had obtained two of them. The third was something a little bit more rare. What the law enforcement source tells me is he tried to acquire it from a company in North Carolina, that company became suspicious about why he wanted it. They tipped off the FBI and an investigation has been going on for the last couple of weeks.” That company - Carolina Biological Supply of Burlington - reported their suspicions on February 1st. But Aldawsari had made other purchases for his plan even earlier -- one back in December. Fox News explains how he flew under the radar for so long: “This was an individual who was very meticulous about his planning. He came here to the United States as a foreign student. He was very careful not to raise any red flags in the system... His diary - I was told - is really a very haunting journal in the sense that it shows how methodically he had been allegedly planning these attacks over several years.” But the blog Lawfare digs deeper -- suggesting Aldawsari worked alone -- and even though he was caught before doing any real damage -- he could be charged with conspiracy. “...the many substantial steps that he had actually taken ... leave no room for doubt as to what was going on. ... Note too that this was not a ‘sting’ case that might raise objections on entrapment grounds, at least according to these allegations. It is very much the real deal lone wolf scenario, or so it seems...” Aldawsari is due in federal court in Lubbock Friday to face the WMD charges. So how do you feel the government handled this case?
