Chien-Ming Wang has pitched well in his two starts this season giving up only 2 earned runs over 13 innings pitched. The Yankees have been hit with the injury bug as Jorge Posada has a sore arm and Derek Jeter missed games due to strained left quad muscle. Jeter is expected back for the Boston series. But Wang has not faired well at Fenway as he has given up 21 earned runs over his last 28 1/3rd’s innings pitched against the Red Sox at Boston. Big Papi bats .462 and Manny Ramirez is 7 of 8 lifetime versus Wang. Young Clay Buccholz was roughed up by the Blue Jays in his first start giving up 3 earned runs, 6 hits and 2 walks over 5 innings in defeat. Bucholz was roughed up in the spring sporting an ERA of 10.03 in 4 starts. Buccholz is feeling the pressure as Bartolo Colon is sitting the minors as a possible replacement for him should he continue to falter as a starter. Francona will have a quick hook here. The Red Sox pen has not been good this young season. Play OVER 9 ½ runs.

Jake Peavy is off to a great start this season. Peavy in 2 starts this season has given up 1 run and 5 hits with 12 strikeouts. Peavy allowed 1 run over 9 innings in his last start last Saturday against the Dodgers. Peavy has pitched very well against the Dodgers over his career. There was a little controversy following Peavy’s start against the Dodgers as his hands were dirty and some speculated Peavy was applying pine tar to the baseball. Padre manager Bud Black claimed it was from dirt and from the rosen bag and not pine tar and not much transpired afterwards so it was put to rest. Peavy could be on his way to his second straight Cy Young award. Brad Penny pitched well in his first start at home this season limiting the Giants to 4 hits and no ones over 6 2/3rd innings. Penny had a great 2007 at home as in 19 starts he sported an ERA just over 3. The Padre bats were ice cold at San Francisco and this one will go under like we had it when these two pitchers met on Saturday. Play Under 6 ½ runs.

A great pitching matchup in a Saturday afternoon ballgame at Shea. Sheets has yet to give up a run on the season shutting out the Giants over 9 innings and shutting out the Cubs over 6 1/3rd innings. Johan Santana has been solid this season giving up only 3 earned runs over 14 innings in his two starts this season. He took the loss in his last start against the Braves and was just a victim of poor run support because he outing against Atlanta was solid. We have two solid aces in good form and under 7 is the absolute nuts in this game. Take under 7.

The teams met over this past weekend with the Red Sox taking 2 of 3. NY Yankees shortstop Derek Jeter missed the Red Sox series with a left quad muscle and is expected back for this series with Boston. Wang has been brilliant for the Yankees this season as he is a perfect 3-0 on the season. In his start against the Red Sox last Friday night he held the Red Sox to only 1 run on 2 hits over 9 innings. Wang has only given up 3 earned runs over 22 innings of work this season. Mariano Rivera has 3 saves in 4 appearances for the Yankees heading into Monday’s action. Rivera has pitched 4 scoreless innings this season giving up only 2 hits. If Wang can give the Yankees 8 good innings at home they will be in good shape in this game. Big Papi has been in a slump for the Red Sox as he had only 1 hit in his last 28 at bats through last Sunday’s action. Buccholz gave the Red Sox a quality start last Friday night giving up only 1 run and 4 hits in 6 innings pitched against the Yankees. Buccholtz can be his own worst enemy at times by giving up bases on balls and he allowed 3 free passes against the Yanks. I am going to play under 9 runs in this game. Wang is in very good form and pitches well at Yankee Stadium. Both teams are banged up with Lowell on the DL for Boston and Posada and Molina nursing injuries. Wang’s ERA was over 2 runs lower at home than on the road last season. Play it over 9 runs.

Arizona's starting pitching has been good as advertised this season but their bats have been outstanding as the D' Backs opened the season 11-4 in their first 15 games. The Diamondbacks are averaging over 6 runs a game leading Major League Baseball and hitting .273 as a team second in the National League. Despite hitting .263 as a team the Padres aren't scoring runs as they average only 3.3 runs per game second last in all of Major League Baseball. Chris Young was tagged for 6 earned runs and 7 hits over 7 innings in his last start versus the Dodgers. Young isn't striking out batters like he used to and is struggling with command as he has walked 12 batters in 17 innings pitched. Dan Haren has given up only 2 earned runs over 12 innings in his last 2 starts. Haren only allows only 1 base runner per inning and doesn't walk too many batters. Haren has gotten the strikeout this season as he gets 1 per inning and will face a Padre team the worst in baseball striking out averaging about 8 per game. Diamondback hitters pounded Young last season scoring 16 earned runs over 19 2/3rd's innings. Lay the chalk here with Arizona –145.

http://www.therenegadehealthshow.com - This is a popular topic up for debate in many food and nutrition communities... If you're a raw foodie, a vegan, or even someone who eats a whole food diet that includes meat, eggs and/or dairy, you'll want to watch this show. I run over the types of vitamin b12 that you can find in your cabinet, what types of food sources are appropriate, the skinny on spirulina, and where you can find out for yourself if you're deficient or not! (I also talk about the hippie guy on my desk and answer a non-health related question as best I can...) Take a look...

LA GRAN LIMPIEZA / THE GREAT L.A. RIVER CLEANUP SATURDAY, May 17, 2008 - Footage of FoLAR's 19th Annual Great Los Angeles River CleanUp - Shot by Keith Coogan on a Sony HDR-HC1, edited with iMovie - Sponsored By: BANK OF AMERICA ; City of Los Angeles, Department of Public Works, Bureau of Sanitation; Port of Long Beach; Warner Brothers; Keep California Beautiful; American Chemistry Council; Fox Entertainment Group; Metropolitan Water District; Albertsons; Baxter BioScience; CDM; CH2MHill; Eartwise Bags; Homeboy Industries; Kaiser; Los Angeles County Department of Public Works; Long Beach Department of Parks, Recreation and Marine; Los Angeles Conservation Corps; Los Angeles Department of Water and Power; Mean Green Team Purifighters; Metrolink; Metropolitan Transit Authority; Patagonia; Raw Revolution; Supervisor Yvonne Burke; Tom's of Maine River Awareness Program; Water Replenishment District; Wenk and Associates; Yosemite Waters; (FoLAR) Friends of the Los Angeles River is a 501(c) 3 non-profit organization founded in 1986, whose mission is to protect and restore the natural and historic heritage of the Los Angeles River and its riparian habitat through inclusive planning, education and wise stewardship. Once home to steelhead and grizzlies, the Los Angeles River meandered through wetlands, marshes, willow, alder and sycamore, providing desperately needed water for the region. Now running over 50 miles long - from the suburbs of the San Fernando Valley to the ocean in Long Beach - the Los Angeles River flows through 14 cities and countless neighborhoods. When the Army Corps of Engineers initiated a flood control project in the late 1930's, they began the process of paving 80% of the River, creating the world's largest storm drain. Over the ensuing decades, the River that had been the sole water supply for the City of Los Angeles before the Los Angeles Aqueduct was completed in 1913 almost disappeared from public consciousness. With the cement came a perceptual shift: the River no longer existed. Instead, it was a "flood control channel," a no-man's land, surrounded by fences and signs. Toronto starter Dustin McGowan has pitched well for the Blue Jays giving up just 8 earned runs over his last 4 starts in 24 1/3rd innings of work. The Blue Jay’s righty has been a victim of very poor run support as his offense is averaging just 2.18 runs in his starts. McGowan in 3-day time starts is 3-0 with an ERA of 2.37 in 19 innings of work. Wang has been a good home daytime pitcher over his Yankee career and this year has been no different. Wang in 3-day time starts is 2-0 with an ERA of 2.33 in 19 1/3rd innings of work. Both starters should go very deep in this afternoon ballgame at Yankee Stadium. Play this one under 9 runs.
