Avenged Sevenfold - Dear God Lyric A lonely road, crossed another cold state line Miles away from those I love purpose undefined While I recall all the words you spoke to me Can't help but wish that I was there And where I'd love to be, oh yeah Dear God the only thing I ask of you is To hold her when I'm not around When I'm much too far away We all need that person who can be true to you But I left her when I found her And now I wish I'd stayed 'Cause I'm lonely and I'm tired I'm missing you again oh no Once again There's nothing here for me on this barren road There's no one here while the city sleeps And all the shops are closed Can't help but think of the times I've had with you Pictures and some memories will have to help me through, oh yeah Dear God the only thing I ask of you is to hold her when I'm not around When I'm much too far away We all need that person who can be true to you I left her when I found her And now I wish I'd stayed 'Cause I'm lonely and I'm tired I'm missing you again oh no Once again Some search, never finding a way Before long, they waste away I found you, something told me to stay I gave in, to selfish ways And how I miss someone to hold When hope begins to fade A lonely road, crossed another cold state line Miles away from those I love purpose undefined Dear God the only thing I ask of you is to hold her when I'm not around When I'm much too far away We all need the person who can be true to you I left her when I found her And now I wish I'd stayed 'Cause I'm lonely and I'm tired I'm missing you again oh no Once again Songwriters: Brian Haner / Jr. / Brian Elwin Haner / Jr. / James Sullivan / James Owen Sullivan / Jonathan Seward / Matthew Sanders / Matthew Charles Sanders / Zachary Baker / Zachary James Baker Dear God lyrics © Sony/ATV Music Publishing LLC

10 Conversational English Expressions With The Word WHAT “What’s The Catch?” Say this in response when something sounds too good to be true… and you suspect there’s a hidden problem. For example, if your friend says he’ll sell you his car for just $200, you could say, “What’s the catch?” because you are wondering if there’s something wrong with the car… or if your friend wants you to do some favor in return. “What’s The Drill?” This phrase means, “What are the rules and procedures for doing this?” Imagine you need to buy a new computer for your office, but you don’t know exactly what the process is for doing this at your company. You can say to a colleague, “I need to put in an order for a new computer. What’s the drill?” and your colleague can then explain how to do it. “What Do You Say? (Whaddayasay?)” We use this phrase to ask someone else, “What is your answer / decision?” For example, imagine you’re making plans for the weekend, and you tell your friend, “I’m going to go shopping on Saturday and hit the beach on Sunday. I’d love for you to join me – what do you say?” You are asking her to give you an answer – yes or no – whether or not she will accompany you. This phrase is often pronounced fast, so it sounds like “Whaddayasay?” and not “What do you say?” “What Goes Around, Comes Around.” This saying means “If you do good things to other people, good things will happen to you. If you do bad things to other people, bad things will happen to you.” “What Do I Owe Ya?” This is an informal way to say, “How much do I need to pay?” Imagine you go out to a bar, and you have 3 or 4 drinks. When you’re ready to leave, you ask the bartender, “What do I owe ya?” – you want to know the total amount of money that you need to pay. “What’s Eating Him/Her?” If a person appears to be angry or upset, you can say “What’s eating him?” or “What’s eating her?” to ask another person what is bothering or annoying that first person who is in a bad mood. “What Are You Getting At

A homophone is a word that sounds the same as another word but has a different meaning and/or spelling. “Flower” and “flour” are homophones because they are pronounced the same but you certainly can't bake a cake using daffodils. Continue reading... #2... This word set can be confusing, even for word geeks. Let's start with the basics. A homograph is a word that has the same spelling as another word but has a different sound and a different meaning: lead (to go in front of)/lead (a metal) wind (to follow a course that is not straight)/wind (a gust of air) bass (low, deep sound)/bass (a type of fish) A homophone is a word that has the same sound as another word but is spelled differently and has a different meaning: to/two/too there/their/they're pray/prey Not so bad, right? The ending –graph means drawn or written, so a homograph has the same spelling. The –phone ending means sound or voice, so a homophone has the same pronunciation. But here's where it gets tricky. Depending on whom you talk to, homonym means either: A word that is spelled like another but has a different sound and meaning (homograph); a word that sounds like another but has a different spelling and meaning (homophone) OR A word that is spelled and pronounced like another but has a different meaning (homograph and homophone) So does a homonym have to be both a homograph and a homophone, or can it be just one or the other? As with most things in life, it depends on whom you ask. In the strictest sense, a homonym must be both a homograph and a homophone. So say many dictionaries. However, other dictionaries allow that a homonym can be a homograph or a homophone. With so many notable resources pointing to the contrary, are we losing this strict meaning? What then will we call a word that is spelled and pronounced the same as another but has a different meaning? If homonym retains all these meanings, how will readers know what is actually meant? The careful writer would do well to foll

When Is The Word AIN’T Used In English? Ain’t is an extremely informal (some people would say incorrect) word for isn’t, am not, or aren’t. You might hear ain’t in songs, like Bon Jovi’s “This ain’t a love song” (This isn’t a love song). It can even mean There isn’t / There aren’t like in the lyric “Ain’t no sunshine when she’s gone” (There isn’t any sunshine when she’s gone) An example from informal spoken English: If you have a friend who is hoping to get back together with her ex-boyfriend (but you very much doubt this will happen) you could say: “That ain’t gonna happen.” (which means, in more formal/correct English, “That isn’t going to happen.”) Ain’t should only be used in VERY INFORMAL situations… and even then, most people don’t use it too frequently, because it can make you appear “uneducated.” 2#... Ain't is used as a regular negated form of be or have, and supposedly sometimes do: I ain't no tractor. = I am not a tractor. I ain't got no tractor. = I haven't got any tractor. It's also used like there isn't, by common omission of there from there ain't. Ain't no tractor here. = There isn't any tractor here. And in case you hadn't guessed, dialects that use ain't stereotypically use negative concord as well.
