A person who is kind, friendly and reliable is often said to be the "salt of the earth" in English. A neighbour, for example, who always says nice things and does good deeds for other neighbours, can be described as "the salt of the earth".

Winner of FIPRESCI Critics Award, Salt of this Sea, Palestine 2008, Official Selection Cannes
Feature Film directed by Annemarie Jacir starring Suheir Hammad and Saleh Bakri.
From the writer, director and star of 2009’s surprise summer hit, Mid-August Lunch, comes Salt of Life, another tale of a middle-aged man faced with a crisis. This time, Gianni (Gianni Di Gregorio) feels the need to prove he is still able to enjoy romance and attract women. The result is a series of escapades that gently mock the Italian male psyche, offering the film’s lead yet another chance to display his disarming charm and talent for comedy.
Star of the first film ever to be written and directed by a Palestinian woman speaks on Palestine
We talk to writer/director/star Gianni Di Gregorio about this autobiographical comedy.
Christian Music artist Ricky Scaggs talks about how the Bible tells us to be the salt of the Earth and how it just takes a little light to dispel darkness.
3/30 Salt of the Earth (Matthew 5:13) As a child of God you are the salt of the earth. Which means you are a flavoring, a preservative, an ice melter and a wound healer. Salt is a preservative, and God's faithfulness preserves His children. And the Son asked His children to be salt of the earth. For the salt is our faithfulness. And His children are faithful even unto death.
This Ms. is written in the romantic adventure genre, with the various love affairs of the characters taking place against the 1960’S backdrop of South West Africa and Angola, when it declared its independence from Portugal, becoming the People’s Republic of Angola in November 1975. The characters include:
* Nord, the only son of the farming Nordman family.
His actual mother is a Nama girl, of Dutch and Khoi-Khoi descent. He is brought up by the farmer’s Dutch wife, Grietje, as her own son.
* Emilie, the daughter of the wealthy neighbouring farmer,
Antonin, and his wife, Gina. Emilie is born when Nord is 12 years of age (and like a member of their family). Emilie’s mother dies after a snake- bite on the farm when Emilie is 6 years old.
* Shaba is a young African boy who loses his family in a village massacre in Zaire. He flees with his grandfather, the only surviving family of the ruling chief, and they disappear into the highlands of neighbouring Angola. A lonely child, his grandfather looks after him, but only with a sense of duty. He finds consolation with a herd of the royal black sable, following them in the forests until he is 10 years of age, when he accompanies his grandfather, recruited by Antonin to work for him on the farm in South West Africa. When Emilie learns to walk, the 15 year-old Shaba becomes her guardian.
* ‘Ki is the Bushman who is sent to the Nordman farm when he loses his right hand in a trap. He adopts the young boy as his spiritual son, and teaches him to live in the bush. Nord adopts his values and his expertise, which stands him in good stead when he becomes a reconnaissance scout for the South West African police force on the border of South West and Angola in the 1960’s and ‘70’s.
The Bushman is always in the background, and an integral part of the novel.

September 25 - Come and Stay
Come unto me, all ye that labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Matthew 11:28
Yes, come for rest. But stay for rest, too. Stop all feverish haste and be calm and untroubled. Come unto Me, not only for petitions to be granted but for nearness to Me.
Be sure of My Help, be conscious of My Presence, and wait until My Rest fills your soul.
Rest knows no fear. Rest knows no want. Rest is strong, sure. The rest of soft glades and peacefully flowing rivers, of strong, immovable hills. Rest, and all you need to gain this rest is to come to Me. So come.
There is no fear in love, but perfect love casteth out fear; because fear
hath torment. He that fear is not made perfect in love. 1 John 4:18
