US to check Somali pirate menace in Gulf of Aden
The US government should work in close collaboration with other countries in the gulf to tackle piracy by Somali pirates in the region. We should not only take note but also applaud the sinking of a suspected Somali pirate vessel in the Gulf of Aden by an Indian navy warship. INS Tabar sank the pirate ‘mother ship’ after it did not stop for investigation and instead opened fire. US with its best naval capacity can deploy its naval vessels and military aircrafts to effectively fight piracy off the coast of Somalia. International community must pick the challenge of restoring normalcy in Somalia since whatever happens there certainly has an effect on what’s happening out in the Gulf of Aden. The region is an important transit route for both commercial and military supplies for the US fighting two most important wars in the region Iraq and Afghanistan. Destruction of Somali pirates becomes essential to ensure safe passage of vital shipments.
Nepali Supreme Court approves gay marriage
California voters may have rejected same sex marriage Nepali Supreme Court however has agreed to the same. The court by its ruling has upheld the basic human rights including the right to same sex marriage. In doing so the Apex Court has defeated the Maoist idea of having a Nepal that despises gay rights as bourgeois idea fit to be scorned at. And, why just California, Nepal has vanquished India, the world’s largest democracy which is seeking to criminalize homosexual sex and where lawyers are fighting an uphill battle to remove the proposed ban on gay marriage. For sure the world is turning upside down. Gays from South Asia once used to seek asylum in the United States it would be interesting to see the tide turning. Soon Californians would be heading to Nepal to get married in the shadow of the Himalayas.
Mexican teachers become victims of drug extortion racket
Elementary school teachers are the latest victims of an exploding extortion racket in the border city of Ciudad Juarez, Mexico, as criminal gangs threaten educators to either hand over their coming Christmas bonuses or see harm done to their families or students. On Tuesday, full-page ads were taken out in local papers by a wide coalition of business, religious, political and social groups asking President Felipe Calderon for more help. The federal government has already sent thousands of federal police and soldiers, but crime has only gotten worse. What is certain is that as bonus day approaches, teachers, parents and students alike are getting nervous, It's going to be a crisis when they come to collect their extortion money.
Tollywood expresses solidarity with Sri Lankan Tamils
“When every Tamil heart is wounded over the sufferings of our brethren in Sri Lanka, it is inappropriate to celebrate my birthday”. This is the latest comment from Rajnikanth aimed at expressing his solidarity with the Tamil community facing the wrath of Sri Lankan army. The announcement is nothing but star tactics meant to shore up his image amongst his fans. Actually the star is trying to salvage his marketability since “Kuselan” starring Rajnikant sold at a cost of Rs.650 millio, bombed at the box office triggering a crisis in the Tamil film industry. It seems that Rajnikanth is all geared up to take a plunge in politics just like veteran M.Karunanidhi and Jayalalitha. The so called stars of Tamil film industry may take the leverage of accusing Sri Lanka of committing genocide and crimes against humanity. However nothing can stop us from protecting our territorial sovereignty and integrity.
A three-kilo-baby is literally a bundle of joy for Israeli gay couple Omer and Yonatan Gher. The couple had a baby through invitro fertilisation in a Mumbai-based clinic.
The baby has raised a fresh lease of hope for the Israeli couple and they can hardly hold back their sense of pride.
The couple's courageous step comes at a time when India is debating the validity of Section 377 and several gay rights activists have been lobbying to scrap this outdated legislation.
Fertility Specialist Dr Gautam Allahabadia says, "The sequel to Dostana will probably start with the children of such families."
After a painstaking and careful selection of the egg donor, Omer and Yonatan shortlisted only those who scored high on IQ. The cuddly baby Evyatar has celebrated the completion of one month of his birth.
It was a bold move by the Israeli gay couple to let the world see their IVF baby, but will this signal a way forward for same sex couples in India who have been rallying hard to secure their rights?
Dr Gautam Allahabadia says, "Once the law is repealed in India, it will be interesting to see how many Indian gay couples will come forward."
Though the couple is from a relatively orthodox country, their decision to have a family will give hope to other gay couples worldwide. Omer and Yonatan are back in Tel Aviv and are set for their innings in parenthood.
Dear President-elect Obama - Who's next, David Duke for the Supreme Court?
Let me get right to the point. Your invitation to Reverend Rick Warren to deliver the invocation at your inauguration is a genuine blow to LGBT Americans. Our loss in California over the passage of Proposition 8 which stripped loving, committed same-sex couples of their given legal right to marry is the greatest loss our community has faced in 40 years. And by inviting Rick Warren to your inauguration, you have tarnished the view that gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender Americans have a place at your table.
Rick Warren has not sat on the sidelines in the fight for basic equality and fairness. In fact, Rev. Warren spoke out vocally in support of Prop 8 in California saying, there is no need to change the universal, historical definition of marriage to appease 2 percent of our population ... This is not a political issue -- it is a moral issue that God has spoken clearly about." Furthermore, he continues to misrepresent marriage equality as silencing his religious views. This was a lie during the battle over Proposition 8, and it's a lie today.
Rev. Warren cannot name a single theological issue that he and vehemently, anti-gay theologian James Dobson disagree on. Rev. Warren is not a moderate pastor who is trying to bring all sides together. Instead, Rev. Warren has often played the role of general in the cultural war waged against LGBT Americans, many of whom also share a strong tradition of religion and faith.
We have been moved by your calls to religious leaders to own up to the homophobia and racism that has stood in the way of combating HIV and AIDS in this country. And that you have publicly called on religious leaders to open their hearts to their LGBT family members, neighbors and friends.
But in this case, we feel a deep level of disrespect when one of architects and promoters of an anti-gay agenda is given the prominence and the pulpit of your historic nomination. Only when Rev. Warren and others support basic legislative protections for LGBT Americans can we believe their claim that they are not four-square against our rights and dignity. In that light, we urge you to reconsider this announcement.

Definition: Heterosexism is a form of discrimination that favors heterosexuals over lesbians, gay men, and bisexuals.
Most legal systems are profoundly heterosexist, offering visitation rights, tax benefits, and other protections to opposite-sex couples that are not available to same-sex couples. Heterosexism is also a reality in the corporate world, where those who are oriented towards partners of the same sex are often denied promotions on the basis of their sexual orientation, or fired outright when their sexual orientation is discovered.
Heterosexism is distinct from homophobia, though homophobia is in all likelihood the driving force behind heterosexism.
Sorry about the volume level, you will have to turn your speakers up. I’ll fix that later and repost. Have a happy and productive day! Namaste!
The Iowa Supreme Court ruled that the states ban same-sex marriage was unconstitutional. According to the court, Iowa was denying equal protection under the law to homosexuals who want to marry. Find out why this is ridiculous on Learn2Discern. Distributed by Tubemogul.
