http://www.CribNotesForDad.com http://www.DadDuds.com Kids who have outgrown their child safety seat's rear-facing height or weight limits will need to make the switch to a forward facing car seat. If your child is still within the height and weight limits for rear-facing, they should remain rear-facing. Rear-facing car seats are five times safer than forward-facing, with the center of the back being the safest position in the car--it is 43% safer than the side seats. There are three types forward-facing car seats 1. Convertible seats. These can be used rear-facing OR forward-facing 2. Combination seats. These can be used forward-facing OR as booster seats. 3. Forward-facing only seats. These are useful for kids with special needs or when big kids must ride in vehicles with lap-only belts. There are three things to look for to see if your child is too big for his forward-facing seat: 1. Weight limit. Your child must not exceed the child safety seat's maximum weight limit. Check your instruction manual for your seat's limits. Maximum weight limits range from 40 to 80 pounds. 2. Head Height limit. Your child's ears must not be taller than the top of the child safety seat. 3. Shoulder Height limit. Your child's shoulders must not be higher than the top harness strap slot used for forward-facing 5-point harness. Note: High-weight harness child safety seats are becoming more popular, and for good reason. 1. Safer than booster seats 2. Great for taller toddlers 3. Will last longer than shorter/smaller seats 4. Great for kids with special needs 5. Great for cars with lap-only belts car seat safety, installing a car seat, car seat safety tips, car seat safety, front facing car seat, car seats for, child seat for car, car seat safety & kids, car seat safety & babies, baby car seats, convertible car seat, car seat safety, infant car seat, child car seat, car seat safety lesson, car seat safety help, learning car seat safety, Driving, car seat, car seats, car seat instrustions, car seat instruction, 2 year old, 3 year old, 4 year old, 5 year old

A shocking video has emerged showing the moment a three-year-old girl was hurled from a fairground ride after slipping under the restraining bar. The child is shown with her feet in the air seconds before flying off the Techno Jump carnival ride at the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo in Texas, the footage has revealed. It appears that the little girl slipped under at least one safety restraint on the ride, raising questions over how she came to fall off it. The child suffered concussion and bruising to her face and head after she was thrown between from the moving contraption between six and eight feet above the ground. The incident was caught on camera by chance as a reveller filmed other thrill-seekers on the ride, which is why the girl's fall is only partially visible from the edge of the frame. According to the Houston Chronicle, Rodeo Chief Operating Officer Leroy Shafer said: 'It's a very scary-looking piece of video. We are just thankful that this young lady was not more injured. 'It boils down to a three-year-old not knowing what to do and was probably scared to death.' The little girl, who has not been named, is now recovering at home. In an initial account of the incident, the rodeo organisers had claimed that the child got on the ride with her mother and brother. However, after deciding the ride was too small for an adult, the mother left the young girl with her eight-year-old brother, it was claimed. Officials then said the girl tried to climb out of the car to get back to her mother about 15 seconds into the ride but fell out and landed on a metal platform. Mr Shafer revised the rodeo's account after viewing the video, which shows the accident happened at 25 second, adding: 'We now know more definitely at what point she came out.' The three-seat cars in the Techno Jump ride all come with separate lap belts and a restraining bar, which is lowered over all riders. It is unclear whether the three-year-old was able to comply with the ride instructions, which require all passengers to sit up, hold the lap bar and place their feet on the floor. Investigators do not yet know whether she slipped under both restraints or if she managed to free herself from the belt before flying from the car.

http://www.babyonthego.co.uk Kids Car Seats UK Common Mistakes You Shouldnt Make Some of us make some common mistakes when buying or using kids car seats. I have listed some of those in this article so you can make sure you are not making any of those mistakes. 1) To believe it or not, a mistake that some people make is going out in the car with their baby and not taking the car travel seat at all. The whole purpose in the car travel seat is to help protect the child in the event of a crash. It prevents ejection from the vehicle which makes death in a car crash up to 4 times less likely than if you werent to use one. So no matter how short the journey or how much of a hurry you are in, always be sure to place your baby securely in his car travel seat before driving anywhere. 2) Some people modify their kids car seats harness belt which is a big mistake as this could affect the safety of the belt. 3) Never throw away your kids car seats instruction manual as you may need to refer to them. This is a common mistake as people think they either dont need them or that they will never need to use them. If you think the car travel seat seems loose or not fitted correctly you should always refer to the manufacturers manual. 4) Never drive away if you think your childs seat is not fitted correctly or not secure enough. Ignoring this is a serious mistake to make. Always make sure you fit your baby car seats on to your car seat securely. 5) Dont buy baby carseats with pretty patterns just because you think it looks nice. Some people seem to think about how the seat looks and forget about the safety. The best way to buy a car travel seat is to look for one that has the safety features you want and need, then pick a colour you like from the colour range of that car travel seat. 6) Dont put the whole seat in the wash as this can affect the overall safety of childs car seats. Car seats are designed with materials that can withstand crash forces. Using harsh cleaning products and soaking parts of childs car seats can damage them and affect the way they would react in a crash. Be sure not to make this mistake and always check the instruction manual before cleaning any part of the seat. 7) Many people ignore the height or weight restrictions as they dont think it will make much of a difference. Baby cars seats and booster seat regulations are there for a reason and the reason is safety. 8) Some people seem to make the mistake of buying a second hand car seat. Cheap child car seats which are cheap just because they are second hand may not be worth thinking about. You should not buy a second hand seat especially if you dont know the history of it and are unsure of whether it has been through any crashes. Car seats expire and may not be up to the current safety standards, so buying your kids car seats that fall into this category could be a big mistake. http://www.babyonthego.co.uk
