Balanced Health Today Call Now 1(888)277-4980 Molluscum Contagiosum Molluscum contagiosum is a viral skin infection that causes either single or multiple raised, pearl-like bumps (papules) on the skin. It is a chronic infection, so lesions may persist from a few months to a few years. However, most cases resolve in six to nine months. Shingles Shingles results from a reactivation of the varicella-zoster virus that also causes chickenpox. With shingles, usually the first thing you may notice is a tingling sensation or burning pain on one side of your body or face. Within days, tiny clusters of red bumps quickly evolve into a group of painful blisters which can pop and get crusty with pus. Unless you are immunocompromised, the rash almost never crosses the midline of your body (it’s unilateral) because it is localized to one nerve root. The area can be very painful, itchy, and tender. After one to two weeks, the blisters heal and form scabs. Up to 15% of people with herpes zoster develop deep pain called postherpetic neuralgia that follows after the infection has run its course. It can continue for months or even years, especially in older people. The incidence of shingles and of postherpetic neuralgia rises with increasing age. In fact, more than 50% of cases occur in people over age 60. Shingles usually occurs only once, although it has been known to recur, usually in people with weakened immune systems. Chickenpox Chickenpox (varicella), a viral illness characterized by a very itchy red rash, used to be one of the most common infectious diseases of childhood. But as a result of the wide use of vaccinations since the 1990s, it has become so uncommon that many doctors in practice now have never seen it. Chickenpox is usually mild in children, but adults run the risk of serious complications, including bacterial pneumonia. People who have had chickenpox almost always develop lifetime immunity (meaning you can't get it again). However, the virus remains

Balanced Health Today Call Now 1(888)277-4980 For such a little gland, the prostate seems to cause a lot of concern. Like a troubled, war-torn country, it's in the news all the time and something always seems to be going wrong there, but you don't really know where it is or why it's important. All men are at risk for prostate problems. That's because all men have a prostate. Take a look at this overview of prostate problems to assess your risk for trouble with your prostate. Benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH). BPH, also known as an enlarged prostate, is growth of the prostate gland to an unhealthy size. A man's chances of having BPH go up with age: * Age 31-40: one in 12 * Age 51-60: about one in two * Over age 80: more than eight in 10 However, only about half of men ever have BPH symptoms that need treatment. BPH does not lead to prostate cancer, although both are common in older men. Prostate Cancer. Prostate cancer is the most common cancer in men (besides skin cancer). About one man in six will be diagnosed with prostate cancer in his lifetime. Let's keep these numbers in perspective, though. Because prostate cancer is usually slow growing, only about one in 35 men will die of prostate cancer. Like BPH, the risk for prostate cancer increases with age. About two out of every three men with prostate cancer are over age 65. No one knows exactly what causes prostate cancer, but risk factors associated with it include: * Family history. Having a father or brother with prostate cancer more than doubles your risk. * Race. African-American men are more likely to get prostate cancer than Caucasians, and the cancer is usually more advanced when discovered. African-American men and men with a family history of prostate cancer usually begin prostate cancer screening at an earlier age than Caucasian men who do not have prostate cancer in their family history.

Balanced Health Today Call Now 1(888)277-4980 Antibiotics are the main course of treatment for this condition. They’re usually taken for four to six weeks. However, because the infection can return, you may need to take antibiotics for 12 weeks or longer. Your doctor will schedule a follow-up exam once you’ve finished treatment to ensure that the infection is completely gone. It may take six months to a year for symptoms to go away completely. In the meantime, certain home remedies may be able to ease your symptoms. Home remedies include: * warm baths * drinking 64 to 128 ounces of water per day * using stool softeners to avoid constipation * avoiding alcohol, caffeine, citrus juices, and hot and spicy food * medications to treat pain You may need additional treatment in the following rare cases: * If you’re unable to urinate, a healthcare provider will insert a tube called a catheter to empty your bladder. * If you have an abscess, your doctor will drain it. * If you develop sepsis, you’ll get intensive antibiotic therapy and you’ll need to stay in the hospital for treatment. * If you have stones, or mineral deposits, in your prostate, your doctor may need to remove your prostate. This is very rare.

Balanced Health Today Call Now 1(888)277-4980 Acute prostatitis Acute prostatitis where symptoms are sudden and severe is usually treated with painkillers and a two to four week course of antibiotics. Hospital treatment may be needed if you're very ill or unable to pass urine acute urinary retention. Chronic prostatitis Treatment for chronic prostatitis where symptoms come and go over several months usually aims to control the symptoms. The following treatments may be used to help control your symptoms: painkillers, such as paracetamol or ibuprofen, may help relieve pain a medication called an alpha-blocker, such as tamsulosin, may also be prescribed if you have problems with urination; these can help relax the muscles in the prostate gland and the base of the bladder occasionally, a four- to six-week course of antibiotics, such as ciprofloxacin, may be prescribed even if no infection is found; this is to see if your condition improves if your symptoms are severe, stronger painkillers, such as amitriptyline and gabapentin, may be considered The aim is to reduce symptoms to a level where they interfere less with day-to-day activities, rather than getting rid of the pain completely. A referral to your local pain clinic may also be considered. What causes prostatitis? Acute prostatitis is usually caused when bacteria in the urinary tract enter the prostate. The urinary tract includes the bladder, kidneys, the tubes that connect the kidneys to the bladder (ureters), and the urethra. In chronic prostatitis, signs of infection in the prostate gland can't usually be found. In these cases, the cause of symptoms isn't clear.
