Snowboarding is now bigger than ever, firmly established in mainstream culture. Snowboarders have become household names and and popularity of snowboarding has surpassed the more traditional winter sports. Most mainstream attention has, up until now, been focused only on a small part of snowboarding – the Halfpipe – leaving out Slopestyle, which is often more accessible to the general snowboarder population.
With Slopestyle’s inclusion in the 2014 Sochi Winter Olympics the format is receiving more attention than ever before, so lets take a look at what slopestyle really is, where it came from and what it takes to succeed.
Slopestyle has evolved into a unique format where riders compete to get the highest score over a range of obstacles. This usually includes a range of jumps, rails and boxes. Courses are unique to each event.
From slopestyles humble roots, a new breed of snowboarding athletes has risen - through intensive training, riders have learned what it takes to become successful at this ever changing format.
With over 300 organized TTR Slopestyle events worldwide, a dedicated Slopestyle ranking and the inclusion in 2014 Winter Olympics, Slopestyle riders are finally set to get the recognition they deserve on a world stage.

Going into the competition Jamie anderson and Roope Tonteri led the Slopestyle tour rankings but after an uncharacteristic result Roope didn't qualify for the finals. Jamie Anderson had the lead, but spencer obrien was hot on her heels and a big result here was all she needed.
As the womens got under way Spencer O'brien only had to place one spot above jamie to take the Title.
After already losing out on one title to spencer this season Jamie threw down an amazing second run, scoring 90.10 points.

Due to adverse weather conditions up on Crap Sogn Gion at the 14th Burton European Open presented by MINI both the Men’s Slopestyle Finals and Women’s Slopestyle Semis and Finals have been cancelled for the duration of the event. Safety comes first, and hitting the Slopestyle course in these extreme weather conditions would not match Burton European Open’s security standards.
The joint decision to cancel was taken at a riders’ meeting this morning, by both event organizers and riders. It was decided by Burton to split the total prize purse between the 39 women who were to ride in the Semis, each receiving a princely sum of $790. The girls were stoked with the cash and they could now head out and ride some pow.
For the men, the scores of Wednesday’s Semi-Finals would be counted as the final results, leaving Torstein Horgmo to take center stage on the podium, with Mark McMorris and Sebastien Toutant taking second and third respectively. Torstein said: „Six years ago I broke my back here in Laax at the BEO, now I’m back for the first time and I won, it can’t be better! It has been an amazing week, too bad the weather didn’t allow to ride the finals today, but we all gave our best yesterday.“
These results also count towards the Overall and Slopestyle World Snowboard Tour rankings.
Mark McMorris moves into the top spot of the World Snowboard Tour Slopestyle ranking with 801.62 points, pushing Roope Tonteri (FIN) into 2nd place. Sebastien
Toutant moves into 8th place both Overall and in Slopestyle, and Torstein moves into 13th place in the Slopestyle rankings.
