A walk through at slum in Gujarat.
Slum Peasants is doin something to eradicate some of the ills of our society.
See how at:
Located in the heart of Mumbai, the Dharavi slum is like a city within the city. Now ambitious plans for redevelopment mean its days are numbered.
Home to one million residents, Dharavi is a hive of activity providing Mumbai with an essential recycling service. However, the slum will soon give way to brand-new apartments. Developers claim everyone will be re-housed into better accommodation, but unfair rules mean most families won't be able to benefit from the change. Driven out of their homes, they will lose everything. As one mother puts it: "We will stay here until they demolish, then we're in the hands of God."
A film about a messed up world… and how we could fix it.
Sprinkled with music from Bob Dylan, Ben Harper, Jack Johnson and Willie

"One Peace at a Time" is an opportunity for individuals, businesses and
foundations to reach out and actually change the world.
Dé lives in the slum quarter in the South Zone of Cantagalo, in Ipanema. Son of Bernadete, a house servant and abandoned by his father, he has learned the hardships of earning an honest living while surrounded by crime. Despite many misfortunes, he manages to keep his dignity by working as a hotdog vendor at a kiosk on the beach. One day while at the beach, Dé meets Nina, the only child to a rich lawyer who lives in the Vieira Souto Avenue in front of the Beach of Ipanema. Love is born despite their living different realities in a city divided by prejudice and economic differences.
What is HIV? What is AIDS? What is being done to cure it? These questions sent Canadian filmmaker Brent Leung on a worldwide journey, from the highest echelons of the medical research establishment to the slums of South Africa, where death and disease are the order of the day. In this up-to-the-minute documentary, he observes that although AIDS has been front-page news for over 28 years, it is barely understood. Despite the great effort, time, and money spent, no cure is in sight. Born in 1980 (on the cusp of the epidemic), Leung reveals a research establishment in disarray, and health policy gone tragically off course. Gaining access to a remarkable array of the most prominent and influential figures in the field — among them the co-discoverers of HIV, presidential advisors, Nobel laureates, and the Executive Director of UNAIDS, as well as survivors and activists — his restrained approach yields surprising revelations and stunning contradictions. The HIV/AIDS story is being rewritten, and this is the first film to present the uncensored POVs of virtually all the major players — in their own settings, in their own words. It rocks the foundation upon which all conventional wisdom regarding HIV/AIDS is based. If, as South African health advocate Pephsile Maseko remarks, “this is the beginning of a war…a war to reclaim our health,” then House of Numbers could well be the opening salvo in the battle to bring sanity and clarity to an epidemic clearly gone awry.

Club Rust (http://www.clubrust.com/) is an amazing organization based in Seattle that goes down several times per year to Mexico and builds houses for people who previously lived in sheetmetal slums. They build houses in the city of Tecate, which is just a few miles south of the U.S. border, but it's worlds apart culturally and economically. Each trip, the team builds one house. They've become so streamlined that they can build 1 house in only 3 days. It's like Extreme Home Makeover, except instead of making over a house, they're just straight up MAKING one! So awesome!
If you're interested in learning more about Club Rust, check out their website (http://www.clubrust.com/). If you're interested in joining them for a trip, they'd be happy to have you. Or if you can't make it on a trip but would like to support their organization, they'd love that as well. And, as you know from the song, you can even write off gifts to them as a tax deduction! Win-win!
If you want to
Help build houses with a group that you can trust
All you need to do
Is Google Club Rust
For just a couple hundred bucks
And just a few days in the sun
You can help build someone a house
Who's never before had one... in Mexico!
You don't need to
Be a super handyman
In fact, everyone's welcome to join
If you wanna bring your whole family you can
But if you're unable to go
But you want to help with mission
Every dollar you give to them
Is a legal tax deduction
Gentrification is accelerating all over the world
Here in Barceloneta a ones strong community is being transformed.
We produced a Map to show what used to be here.
The erased geography is a door that reminds us of the despaired spaces of la Barceloneta.
It is not nostalgic, it remembers the history of the places that we feel are important.
This square yoused to be a school, it was the hart of the naberhood, with an old market and football area. Now the is a empty square that goes to the beach.
One more sentence….
Through looking at the past and the present we feel courage to decide better our future.
A building that was ones a Food coop and a community center, left empty for more then 10 years.
This area is traditionally the home of Fishermen and Dockworkers. Those who rent are now being push out by rising rents and the clearing of there old social connections.
This area used to be a mixed community of slum dwellers, now vanished replaced with a park leading to the beach. The dictatorship bulldozed them away.
Clearing away our history is the same as clearing away our communities, and with out community the modern world is a lonely place.
We gathered to present a second map - what we need.

I love this musical so I bought this karaoke/instrumental.
Karaoke instrumental Oliver Twist
Strong men tremble when they hear it!
They've got cause enough to fear it!
It's much blacker than they smear it!
Rich men hold their five-pound notes out --
Saves me emptying their couats out.
They know I could tear their throats out
Just to live up to...
Jemmy in me hand,
Lemme see the man who dares
Taking what I may
He can start to say his prayers!
Biceps like an iron girder,
Fit for doing of a murder,
If I just so much as heard a
Bloke even whisper...
(spoken) My name! Bill Sikes...
(sung) Some Toff, slumming wiv his valet,
Bumped into me in the alley
Now is eyes'll never tally
He'd never heard of ...
Used to boast the claim
He could take my name in vain...
Shame 'e was so green
Never was 'e seen again!
Once bad -- What's the good of turning?
In hell, I'll be there-a-burning
Meanwhile, thing of what I'm earning
All on account of...
What is it? What is it? What is it?
(spoken) Bill Sikes.
