Golden Axe III review. Classic Game Room presents a CGRundertow review of Golden Axe III for Sega Genesis, available on Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection for PlayStation 3 and XBox 360. Walk right. Cut crap with medival weaponry. Ride a weird Yoshi-wannabe-gastropod thing. And then just cast a spell and kill everything in one shot. Hey, we never said this was going to be balanced. From the hallowed (?) tubes of the Sega Channel comes Golden Axe III, another in that interminable series of early 90's side-scrolling beat-'em-ups. Except this one doesn't have pipes or knives or kangaroos or nothing! All we get is a Final Fantasy-style Hill Gigas and a furry. And an offhand reference to Boris Vallejo, who - while iconic - isn't really my style if you get my drift. This video review features video gameplay footage of Golden Axe III for XBox 360 and audio commentary from Classic Game Room's TJ.
Vectorman 2 review. Classic Game Room presents a CGRundertow review of Vectorman 2 for Sega Genesis, available on Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection for PlayStation 3 and XBox 360. Spoiler: He's not really made of vectors. He's made of BALLS. Which is even better. Another spoiler: This game is all kinds of awesome, and it's a crying shame Vectorman doesn't get the attention and respect he deserves these days. With awesome 3D sprite art, meticulous animation, wide and varied gameplay across 22 stages, and a shout out to JOSH KREBS, Vectorman 2 is one of the most revered platform shooters this side of Earthworm Jim. Groovy! This video review features video gameplay footage of Vectorman 2 for XBox 360 and audio commentary from Classic Game Room's TJ.
Fatal Labyrinth review. Classic Game Room presents a CGRundertow review of Fatal Labyrinth for Sega Genesis, available on Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection for PlayStation 3 and XBox 360. I'm not shocked by the revelation that Sega made a roguelike for the Genesis. I am shocked by the fact that it was originally available only for a weird Genesis online multiplayer service offered only in Japan. (Which, I guess, would make it a Mega Drive online multiplayer service.) Still, it's a perfectly functional roguelike... though there's only one dungeon, it's some 30 stories tall, you can't save, gold is meaningless except for buying a better funeral service, and... wait, if you die, how does the gold get out of the dungeon to pay for the arrangements? ANSWER ME THAT ONE, SEGA! This video review features video gameplay footage of Fatal Labyrinth for XBox 360 and audio commentary from Classic Game Room's TJ.
