In the game, players control a boy who befriends a giant half-bird-half-mammal creature, Trico. The Last Guardian was released worldwide in December 2016. Team Ico began developing The Last Guardian in 2007. It was designed and directed by Fumito Ueda, and shares stylistic, thematic, and gameplay elements with his previous games Ico (2001) and Shadow of the Colossus (2005). He employed the "design through subtraction" approach he had used for his previous games, removing elements that did not contribute to the core theme of the connection between the boy and Trico. Sony announced The Last Guardian at E3 2009 with a planned release in 2011 exclusively for the PlayStation 3. It suffered numerous delays; Ueda and other Team Ico members departed Sony, and hardware difficulties moved the game to the PlayStation 4 in 2012, drawing speculation that the game would not see release. Ueda and his studio genDESIGN, composed of former Team Ico members, remained as creative consultants, with Ueda as director and Sony's Japan Studio handling technical development. The Last Guardian was reintroduced at E3 2015. Upon release, it received praise for its art direction, story, and depiction of Trico.

Concrete Genie is an upcoming action-adventure game developed by PixelOpus, a developer part of SIE Worldwide Studios, for the PlayStation 4. The game was announced at Sony's PlayStation Media Showcase at Paris Games Week 2017 on October 30, 2017. Creative director Dominic Robillard says the game is heavily inspired by Sega's Jet Set Radio The story takes place in a small town named Denska, which has been mostly abandoned and polluted. A young boy named Ash regularly doodles in his notebook. A group of bullies steals the book, rips out the pages and scatters them throughout the city. Ash goes on a quest to recover his pages. Along this quest, he discovers a paint brush that can turn his creations to life. Ash must overcome the bullies and bring life back to his hometown. The player controls Ash and uses the DualShock 4's motion controls to create landscapes in the town of Denska. These landscapes turn into living portraits. How you paint creatures and what color you paint them will affect their personalities. For example, red paint will grant a creature fire-breathing abilities. In addition to free-style drawing, there is a set of core puzzles in the game that the player will have to solve through their artwork. The player will be able to gain access more of Denska over time, but at the start of the game, the player will only have access to a single neighborhood. Throughout the game, the bullies will move through the town and cause the artwork to die. They can also bully Ash, so the player must avoid the bullies as Ash traverse the town. The player can also fix the ruined artwork. Project manager Brent Gocke says the game will be between five and six hours long. The developer is currently looking into a multi-player component to the game.

Death Stranding is an upcoming action game developed by Kojima Productions and published by Sony Interactive Entertainment for PlayStation 4. It was announced at E3 2016 and has no set release date. Norman Reedus, Mads Mikkelsen, Léa Seydoux, and Lindsay Wagner are set to star in the game, with motion capture, facial scannings and vocal performances. Film director Guillermo del Toro also contributed his likeness to another character through facial and body scanning. The game's title is a reference to the cetacean stranding phenomenon. Death Stranding's announcement during Electronic Entertainment Expo 2016 has caused public excitement: from the entrance of Hideo Kojima, introduced by Andrew House on the Sony stage, welcomed with great enthusiasm after his "Hello, hello everyone. I'm back!" exclamation to the teaser trailer itself, which generated amazement – especially for Reedus' appearance and interpretation – triggering several reaction videosfrom the public which was widespread on YouTube. Kojima's arrival and the trailer were chosen by several publications to be one the most emblematic moments in Electronic Entertainment Expo that year. In the period after the shown trailers and basic game information, there was a notable movement among Kojima's fans, which gave free rein to their theories about the game, its gameplay and its plot, organizing themselves in communities on discussion forums. In 2017 Death Stranding was nominated by Golden Joystick Awards in the category "Most Wanted Game" which however was won by The Last of Us Part II. In June 2018, during the days following the Electronic Entertainment Expo 2018 press conferences, Death Stranding reached the top ten in the most watched video game trailers on YouTube, with more than 4,500,000 views.

Ghost of Tsushima is an upcoming action-adventure video game developed by Sucker Punch Productions and published by Sony Interactive Entertainment for thePlayStation 4. Featuring an open world for players to explore, the game revolves around the last samurai on the Tsushima island during the first Mongol invasion of Japan. Set in 1274 on the eponymous island of Tsushima, the game revolves around the last samurai, Jin Sakai (Daisuke Tsuji) during the first Mongol invasion of Japan. Jin will have to master a new fighting style, the way of the Ghost, to defeat the Mongol forces and fight for the freedom and independence of Japan. Ghost of Tsushima is being developed by Sucker Punch Productions. After completing Infamous First Light, the team wanted to develop another open world project because the team believed that choices made by the player are important to gameplay. As a result, the game will not feature any waypoint so that players have complete freedom to explore the game's world. According to Nate Fox, the game's director, the team distilled the game's numerous internal pitches into "the fantasy of becoming a samurai" during the game's conceptualization. To ensure that the title would be an accurate representation of feudal Japan, the team consulted cultural experts and sent an audio team to Japan to record different sounds, including birdsongs. The team will also allow players to switch the audio to Japanese with English subtitles in an effort to create a more authentic experience. Sucker Punch's Infamous series served as an inspiration for Jin's transversal techniques. The game takes inspiration from Japanese samurai cinema, notably Akira Kurosawa films such as Seven Samurai (1954) and Sanjuro (1962). The team consulted historical sword-fighting expert David Ishimaru to help create a historically-based foundation for the game.

Days Gone is an upcoming action-adventure game developed by SIE Bend Studio and published by Sony Interactive Entertainment. It is scheduled to be released exclusively for PlayStation 4. It is SIE Bend Studio's first intellectual property since Syphon Filter in 1999 and their first console game since Syphon Filter: Logan's Shadowin 2010. The game uses Unreal Engine 4. Days Gone is an action-adventure survival horror game set in a post-apocalyptic open world, played from a third-person perspective. The player controls Deacon St. John (Sam Witwer), a former outlaw-turned drifter and bounty hunter who prefers life on the road to wilderness encampments. The game takes place two years after a global pandemic occurred which killed almost all of humanity, and transformed millions of others into "Freakers", mindless zombie-like creatures that are quickly evolving. In the E3 2016 stage demo, two types of "Freakers" were revealed, Newts and Hordes. In the E3 2017 stage demo, infected animals such as bears and wolves also were revealed to also comprise the "Freakers", and human enemies are revealed to be featured in the game as well. The player can complete objectives in multiple ways, such as by using stealth or long and short ranged weapons. A dynamic weather system and day-night cycle will also feature, making "Freakers" weak and slow by day but fast and aggressive by night. Vehicles such as motorbikes can be used to explore. The player is able to craft new items to improve combat efficiency.
